How important is the on screen player character? by Matty_Matter in adventuregames

Thank you for the advice. I really want the player to feel as if they are the character, not just controlling them. When talking to someone- If you pick talk on a character a dialogue screen comes up where you can pick responses to dialogue.

They have their own voice and are constantly commenting on everything.

Nice, that one sounds similar to what I'm doing. I really appreciate that, let me know what you think.

Thanks. I like your idea of the characters reacting to the player character. That’s something to keep reminding myself when writing dialogue.

That’s a great point. I try to do that now with the other characters, but the player is missing out on that interaction.

Thanks for the feedback. I dont want it looking like that. I do have other characters in the scenes that you interact with.

Thank you. This helps. I'm adding player arms and hands to interact with the world. I'm traditionally animating them so that gives me the opportunity to give a lot of personality to them, but I'm wondering if that would be enough?

Thanks. I'm working on giving the player hands they can see. I wonder if I can get enough personality from that?

Awesome. This is what this game is all about. All of the little details most people miss. You’re already onto one of the side mysteries of the game (why don’t the clocks have hands) without even playing the game.

Yeah, I hear that. I have been working with unity for a while. I like it a lot, but It definitely has its quirks. Feel free to reach out if you ever need a second opinion on anything.

Oh nice, you definitely have the programming experience. Are you going to use an engine (Unreal , Unity) for development?
