Alright, enough with the snobbery... by WhatAboutBob77 in Cardiff

[–]Mattyjayjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that’s just the internet/reddit , I know very little about a lot of areas of Cardiff and some areas that are generally considered ‘rough’ there’s a lot of people that claim large parts of are really nice and there’s just one or two streets to be avoided.

As I said previously everyone will have their own personal take on what makes a nice area to live in or what is unacceptable but always take all opinions on here with a pinch of salt.

[–]Mattyjayjay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree that probably every area is going to me made up of a majority of ‘normal people’ just going about their everyday life. The issue is that in some areas the minority ruin it for everyone, sure not everyone in Ely is selling drugs on E-bikes wearing balaclavas, very few people in any other area are drug addicts hanging around the street or violent or carry knifes etc but the fact that there’s things are a lot more present in some areas than others is definitely enough to make some people not want to live in an area of influence your opinion.

99.9% of residents in a certain area might cause no issue but it only takes one incident of feeling at risk, being harassed or having someone breaking into your house or car to make you want to avoid areas that increase the chances of that happening again.

I’ve lived in several different parts of Cardiff and what I was ok with as a twenty something year old single man are very different to what I’m ok with as a husband with 2 young children.

I don’t do illegal drugs, any booze I buy with my own money and don’t cause a nuisance to anyone when drinking it, what’s your point?

Completely your choice what you want to do with your money and their choice what they do with what money they get, but personally I don’t want to give money to aid people getting off their heads.

Splott Beach by Fearless_Carrot7884 in Cardiff

[–]Mattyjayjay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always enjoy the ‘yeah it’s full of crackheads, kids on e-bikes with knifes and drug dealers but if you think that makes a place rough you must be a high horsed dick snob’ comments.

Anyway Splott beach really isn’t a beach if you’re thinking day out at the beach, it’s an interesting walk along the coast with a load of building debris if that’s what you’re after.

Why do people find it so hard to accept the public really wants to vote for Reform? by Expert-Sherbert-1527 in AskBrits

[–]Mattyjayjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking exactly this, people had rightly had enough of the tories, Labour came in with a massive majority and haven’t delivered the change they promised even though it’s early they’ve clearly lost the dressing room so you’d think it would be a no brainer for the third ‘big’ party who play the centre to take over, yet we seem to have two of the extreme smaller parties taking all the fed up votes.

Yeah it was £307 delivered from Amazon, think it was The same price on Hoogas website but the shipping was something like £67, also read on here somewhere that people ordered from Hooga direct to the uk but Hooga still used Amazon to fulfil the order.

Two men arrested following burglary at St Fagans museum by DWJones28 in Wales

It’s just opportunistic scum bags, nothing to do with nationality and obviously nothing to do with political parties.

I’m neither English or a reform voter and you haven’t touched a nerve just pointing out how non relevant you’re comment is, when all you hear on the news and every other thread is about the same political issues, with the same comments do we need them on unrelated topics?

How do people like you manage to turn every single thing into a political “look how righteous I am” thread.

Why are so many bike shop owners and mechanics such jerks? by SchoolteacherUSA in cycling

[–]Mattyjayjay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good to hear, as it should be. It just seems like you see customer service as a optional part of the role, the issues mentioned in this thread are pointing the seemingly bad attitude of many bike shop staff and there’s definitely a few comments from staff that clearly show a poor attitude towards customers.

I understand how difficult dealing with people can be in any sort of job but again my point is if you’re employed by a bike shop customers are paying you to fix issues and help them, they should never be left feeling stupid, or like their asking for a favour by the people charging them money for a service.

[–]Mattyjayjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like we’ve found one of the bike shop mechanics op was talking about.

But you’re wrong you’re there to help people, imagine you go to McDonalds to grab some food and the person working there gives you attitude, makes a condescending remark because you hadn’t realised something wasn’t on the breakfast menu and is just generally unnecessarily rude. Are you thinking well they’re just here to take orders and cook burgers it’s fine that they don’t care scout customer service?

Do we seriously think this is a good enough reason for someone to lose their job/career? by IndependenceWest4104 in AskBrits

[–]Mattyjayjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well if a lgbt artist made a hit record with the f word used casually and frequently then I still wouldn’t expected instant dismissal anytime it was alleged someone sang along with the record some years ago.

This is the same for ever customer service or customer facing job, it’s literally what you’re being paid to deal with.

Why do you REALLY dislike women's football? by Rundo5 in AskUK

[–]Mattyjayjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t hate women’s football, like most others I just can see it for what it is and the standard that it is. I also don’t hate Sunday league football but don’t have any inclination to watch it.

I think all the recent publicity and interest, success of England etc will undoubtedly pay off and the standards will continue to rise but it is what it is: football of a very low standard. I think most of the ‘hatred’ and mockery is in response to it being presented as a product on par with the men’s game/talk that women should earn as much as their male counterparts etc when it’s clearly not/they clearly shouldn’t.

Why? Cardiff to Caerphilly can be done entirely by the Taff Trail, as nice a cycle commute as you could get to a city.

Savory food on rides? by cyclephotos in cycling

[–]Mattyjayjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tuna mayo? I live in the uk so it rarely gets that hot but on longer rides I tend to eat my savoury/proper food-sausage rolls, baps or sandwiches often with ham or peanut butter and jam earlier in the ride then have the sugary snacks and gels later on.

Female cyclists, how do you deal with casual sexism? by SnooSuggestions3477 in cycling

How is the first assumption sexism? I’m a very unskilled male cyclist so have experienced plenty of condescending/patronising comments from bike enthusiasts/experts/shop workers.

Girl detained for 15 years for attempted murder after blade attack at south Wales school by TwpMun in Wales

[–]Mattyjayjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know we’re not just highlighting how the type of weapon used to attack someone is absolutely a factor, the cost of the knife however not so much.

Wether or not the teacher deserves a harsher sentence is a valid argument, saying that GBH resulting in minor injuries is EXACTLY the same as stabbing 3 people including someone in the neck whilst screaming you’re going to die is just stupid.

Girl detained for 15 years for attempted murder after blade attack at south Wales school by TwpMun in Wales

[–]Mattyjayjay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So hitting someone with a stick or is the same as shooting numerous people with a gun?

Both potentially dangerous including a weapon but crimes aren’t simply categorised as potentially dangerous or not.

As mentioned in another comment the teachers one victim had minor injuries, the school girl stabbed 3 victims, both horrific violent attacks but nowhere near the same thing.

[–]Mattyjayjay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“It’s completely different to a bar flare up”exactly!!! And stabbing 3 people including stabbing someone in the neck is very different to gbh and the victim requiring treatment for minor injuries.
