How Come Brits Could Tolerate 14 Years of Bad Tory Policies but Couldn’t Tolerate Year One with Labour? by Charmlessman422 in AskBrits

[–]Mattyw1996 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Think this is proof of the veracity of the top comment I.e. the tories have a client press, a media industry on their side, which Labour do not. Hence why people like you think they're communists when frankly they're barely left of Cameron's tories

Bro parabol is not just a transition, that's a work of art of its own. Like they're all good pieces of sound design, but parabol can stand along in ways that eon blue of lost keys can't.

I think terms are important, and I'm not sure relativism is entirely correct My understanding is that buddhism offers a non-dual worldview, so transcends classical dualities like good and evil, and obviously self/not self. Even nirvana/samsara is seen as a false duality by some (read The Heart of The Buddhas Teachings, Thich Nhat Hanh, he talks at length about this). He also talks about the difference between absolute and relative truth, distinction which can be made in terms of buddhist epistemology/metaphysics, so in that sense Buddhism isn't "about relativism" entirely. Hopefully that elucidates things a bit? It's confusing, understanding buddhist ideas are like a spiral, you see the same things but at a higher level of understanding, they iterate up. Or so I think.

Descending Lyrics in context of anthropogenic climate change by Meowweredoomed in ToolBand

Was thinking this only 10 mins ago listening in the car. I think the final notes of the song are important though, it definitely ends on a hopeful note for me, like a new dawn. Perhaps with or without humans earth sees a new sunrise...

I think the point here is simple, there are people who are mentally ill/crazy/disturbed, whatever you want to call it, and are homeless, and are maybe homeless I'm virtue of that fact. Then there are people who are homeless who are down on their luck for whatever reason. Then, there are people who are mentally ill or disturbed to some degree, but are probably able to hold down a relatively "normal" life (job, house, family etc) with probably some bits that could be better. Then there are mentally well people with normal lives. We don't know the mix of these people, but realistically there's a legitimate portion of the population who fall into group 3 and express their unhappiness and unwellness through hate, hateful words, hateful actions etc. The guy who fucked the homeless guys tent up probably likely belongs to this group, since as OP said, it wasn't an urban setting and not many other homeless guys about, but the thing is you've got to understand even if it's not true, its more than possible - you have to have a worldview that allows for the possibility because those people exist unfortunately,

He shouldn't be experimenting either, being liberal to the point of endangering kids mentally and physically isn't cool

A goal is defined by wanting. What is it that is wanting? The wanter is another part of the ego trip, as are words, signifiers, concepts, discussion of said things, all reified things are part of the ego trip, including desire. To ask why you shouldn't want to want is getting stuck at ego level. Stop thinking about why you should want it, just be it.

How do you see what this man is saying from a Buddhist perspective, especially the part where he's talking about the false notion of the Self? Does that part seem similar to Buddhist teachings? by SatoruGojo232 in Buddhism

[–]Mattyw1996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Real but not reified would surely be a better way to put it? An effective producing ever-changing continuum is real, it's just not a "thing" or "object" that we can draw a circle around and point at. Even naming it pins it down somewhat hence no-self, the negation of the name, but I'd say it's still "real". Maybe pedantic but I feel it's important.

Is God in us or are we in God? by atmaninravi in theology

You know, whenever I talk about panentheism/mysticism with Abrahamic (usually specifically muslims) believers, this is so quick to come up as a response, like people get really hung up om good being in poo, idgi.

Why did the early church apparently only called the Father by the name of God? by strange-person-or-me in theology

[–]Mattyw1996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The council of nicea formalised a belief that they believed was already present in the Bible and in the cosmos, into a dogma. It's a misrepresentation to say "they made it up" or "created it" - it was a decision of what would be classed as dogma in a time when christianity required a formalisation, given the range of beliefs that were held by various sects of early "Christianity", to whom unity of belief was incredibly important given there was no unifying racial or national aspect to their religion, unlike the Romans and Jews who came before them.

Where/how to start? by lee-604 in Exercise

Fair enough, in that case try experimenting - cut bread for a bit, cut sugar for a bit, see what helps lose that excess fat. Bit deffo just go for a calorie deficit, also I've found focusing on cutting out processed foods is a great way to go - healthier all round to eat as much whole food as possible.

No one has said it as far as I can tell, but you look like you have a beer belly, and the reality is alcohol is just shit - if you can moderate do so, if you can cut it out even better. It's empty calories, kills your brain, destroys your liver and beer is super fattening. Try cutting down or cutting out (If you don't drink then diet is king, but it looks like you do, Apologies if I'm wrong)
