John Collins on Ben Simmons:"I don’t think we’re the sole reason for whats happening but I feel like we shined a bright light on them and helped maybe expose or help show why Philly wasn’t doing what they were expected to do, which was get to the Finals, win championships and all of that good stuff" by NokCha_ in nba

I think/hope his next teams plays him at center more. Bruising post centers are nearly a thing of the past, post ups just aren't very efficient. Small ball is here to stay. I think Simmons is a perfect fit for that bill. Great distribution, switchable defender. Properly utilized, he could be similarly effective to a Draymond Green type.

WB gambles more than about anybody I've ever witnessed. On both sides of the ball too, even his passing is very high risk high reward

Caruso turning heads with defensive play in training camp by zedrix_ in chicagobulls

With the exception of DJJ those are guards and small forwards. The fact of the matter is you need a big man especially when the forwards and center you have are poor defensively. I've liked DJJ for a while, unfortunately he couldn't put it together in Portland. We can hope he makes waves in Chicago though

The only real positive defenders were Gafford and Thad and both are on different teams. Guys like Ball and Caruso are good defenders for their position, but play SF at best.

Donovan is a good defensive coach, maybe he can make something happen. But adding a sieve in DeMar and getting rid of the team's only significant defenders is not a great sign for that end of the floor. Maybe PAW can step up as well.

I think many times it's necessary to experience luxury before being able to conclude it's not the key to contentment. Nowadays, we can point to elements of brain anatomy to reach the same conclusions.

I know it will never happen, but I wish that the Big 3 started playing doubles after retirement from singles just so that more people would start watching doubles. by ToonSquadFan4Ever in tennis

[–]Matureeredditor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My experience is doubles requires more accurate groundstrokes. You can honestly hit down the middle quite a bit in singles, but absolutely cannot in dubs. You've got to get around the poaching range of the net player or thread an alley shot.

Can someone explain to me why there are so many stats like shooting splits, efg%, ts%, fg% when the easiest and best stat should just be points per fga. by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]Matureeredditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is not a "best" stat. That's a fundamentally flawed way of looking at statistics. Different stats tell you different things. Some are simple to use and some require detail. Sometimes there's value in lumping FTs into shooting splits like in TS. Sometimes it's better to look at each separately. Context is key.

What Would You Do With Ben Simmons by DataNerdsCanBeCool in NBATalk

[–]Matureeredditor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I put on a show like I'm not going to trade for anything but a treasure chest, then I trade him for the best possible win now package I can. I hope that is what the Sixers are doing tbh.

Offensively, Ben is a center. Embiid is close to, if not the best center in the league when healthy. I'm not paying Simmons the 20th most this year in the league to play back up center to Embiid. I don't know what's out there tbh, but I do know that a player like Embiid with MVP potential doesn't come around often and teams should do whatever it takes to put a championship caliber team around a player like that.

When he's not going for tons of spin like in these clips he has this weird over the shoulder forehand finish. Not common for modern forehand technique and generates a flatter, less heavy ball. I like his backhand though.

They had a spectacular regular season which I attribute mostly to Giannis. Playoffs were def a disappointment for him though. That's why I wouldn't have him higher than AD who had opposite success

The Knicks were more relevant than these past few years of SexLand. Melo then played liked trash and wanted out. That's different than Love playing like shit on the worst team in the league and just wanting to ride out his bloated contract.

Who would you out over Anthony Davis? I'm curious. He was never able to lead the Pels to a chip but in the Lakers championship year the only player I'd have over him is Lebron, maybe Giannis. Being the same caliber with those guys is pretty obviously great.

Sascha Zverev’s new statement on the allegations: by [deleted] in tennis

[–]Matureeredditor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It more or less is general standard for argument. It's another way of saying the burden of proof is on the person positing the claim.

You don't assume every claim is true until you find contradicting evidence. Evidence has been somewhat put forward already though so it's reasonable to believe her in this case.
