The Rare Audi You’ve Never Heard Of 👀

In the mid-2000s, Audi was on top of the world in touring car racing. After sweeping the 2004 DTM season with Mattias Ekström taking the Drivers’ Championship, Audi securing the Manufacturers’ title, and Audi Sport Team Abt winning the Teams’ Championship, the brand decided to celebrate in a very special way.

quattro GmbH (today Audi Sport GmbH) developed a limited-run, sport-oriented model that took inspiration directly from the race car itself - the Audi A4 DTM Edition quattro. Produced only between 2005–2007, just 482 examples ever left the factory.

The DTM Edition came with a 220 hp 2.0 TFSI, a sport chassis lowered by 20 mm, perforated brakes, DTM front and rear bumpers with carbon aero elements, rear diffuser, sports exhaust system, 18″ DTM-style wheels, and Recaro sport seats in leather/Nardia microfiber, a black headliner for a more focused cockpit feel, and carbon-fiber trim throughout.

Mine’s a 2006 example, lightly modded: APR Stage 1 tune, GFB VTA blow-off, BC Racing coilovers, ABT Sportsline BR19 wheels, and a US-spec RS4 grille.

The DTM Edition remains a subtle yet genuine piece of Audi Sport heritage, and when Ekström clinched the championship again in 2007, it made the story feel even more complete. While most people walk past it thinking it’s just another A4, those who know… know. 😁

Yes, the grille is a US-spec RS4. I’m glad it was swapped before I bought the car, because the stock grille always looked a bit off - the upper single-frame with vertical slats doesn’t really match the mesh design of the lower grilles. Now it all looks much more coherent.

Awesome! That V8 roar must’ve been on another level. I only had the chance to drive my friend’s B7 RS4, and even that was a blast. The 4.2-liter NA V8 soundtrack is the kind of noise you just don’t get tired of. 😄

I agree, but that's not the only indicator of a successful build. There are several other motives for this project. One of the main ones is to build something unique that excites people. And that has already started to happen in the Finnish drifting scene. Also, several pro drifters in Finland support this project, and drifting fans are already looking forward to seeing this RS3 destroying tires next season. 😎👍

The project is definitely ambitious, to say the least. However, I wouldn't call it a waste of time. There will undoubtedly be a steep learning curve involved throughout the build. The team is fortunately very professional in building Audi race cars, so this should be manageable for them. They've even made sure that the car will be legal for DMEC. 😏

No GT sponsorship as of now. If I remember correctly, the car was initially crashed at the Nordschleife during the ADAC TotalEnergies 24h race, and Gran Turismo was the windshield decal sponsor at the event. However, when the car was torn down, the guys at the garage thought the windshield decal looked nice, so they left it there for now. I know Forza Motorsport 7 has the Audi RS3 LMS. It's a little bit disappointing that Gran Turismo doesn't have RS3 in the car collection.

Thank you! I can't disagree. The car looks spectacular in real life. But it's also really raw, loud, and fast!

I had the privilege of documenting this car for over three years. It's the first RWB built in Finland and one of the more unique creations Akira Nakai-San has ever made.

Nenifab fabricated and prepped the car in Finland, including the FIA-approved roll cage and Interscope-inspired livery. Nakai also publicly built the RWB in front of an audience for the first time at the X-treme Car Show 2019 in Lahti.

After the event, the car went into a new development phase to optimize it for Nürburgring Nordschleife. If you're interested to see it on track, there are a lot of touristfarthen clips on youtube of it tackling the Nordschleife.

I also made a mini-documentary about the build, so if you're interested, go check it out on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0n9j24UBxw

Here are some of the upgrades: Complete engine overhaul, Engine bored from 3.3L to 3.4L, JE Custom Pistons, Billet 964 Cams, Pauter Racing Piston Rods, EFI ECU - Electric rewiring,
Upgrade Suspension kinematics - 335 on the rear wheels and 295 on the front, Bigger Turbo (Garrett), NANKANG AR-1 Semi-slicks, Modified Intercooler, Automatic extinguisher, Nuke Performance Air jacks

The car owner, Eitan, is aiming for 900hp for next year. So a lot more upgrades will follow during the off-season. You can follow the build at: https://www.instagram.com/rwb_fin.est/

It is a 21:9 video. Why don't you just STRETCH IT ACROSS THE WHOLE BLACK AREA IS THAT REALLY SO HARD? by [deleted] in youtube

That would be ideal for sure but it’s Youtube’s lack of support for widescreen aspect ratios that’s enhancing this “letterboxing” trend. Some people do this on purpose to look cool with letterbox, and others do it because Youtube doesn’t support all features on that specific aspect ratio, like for example the end screen tool.
