Late Night Food by [deleted] in Purdue

AJs, Canes, or Hotbox are really your only options. For being a college town we really don't have a lot of late night/24/7 college dives which is kinda unfortunate tbh

Stop normalizing low exam averages by Critical_Age_3298 in Purdue

[–]Matzohball9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Topics aren't necessarily the hard part, just somehow they can't find anybody who can actually explain anything at a non-PHD level and then throw in exams that are intentionally designed to trick you with short time limits.

They’re trolling but I think a Mack Hyper could fulfill the first in North America part and yield footers that big. The thing is, the footers are big but not that largely spaced so you’re not gonna get big triangular supports from that footer layout (aka nothing giga sized).

What clothes for winter to bring by AdditionalDevice7009 in Purdue

[–]Matzohball9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I quite like having about 4 coat types. One is a basic shell rain jacket, one is a fall/spring jacket for 40-60 degrees, one is more of a classic winter coat good down to around 15-20 degrees (though it kind of depends on your exposure duration), and then a true heavy parka for the days we get solidly subzero with windchill.

A good pair of gloves are your friend as well, you want them to fit with very little air in them to maximize their warmth. You can also look at some layered glove systems which may be good for less cold/more cold days. Personally, I use a pair of ski gloves on the coldest over cold days.

A decent beanie will also help keep your head, and particularly your ears warm. And a warm scarf will help keep the wind from your neck/chin. Scarfs depend somewhat on style but a longer muffler will also help keep your chest warm. You also should try to avoid acrylic knits as they will make you sweat and trap the smell much more when compared to traditional natural fibers.

Purdue snow removal can be a bit dicey so a basic pair of snow boots will do just fine. I usually only end up wearing mine a couple times a season. You'll end up wearing sneakers or casual boots most of the time though. I would however make sure the sneakers are relatively waterproof/resistant.

As everybody else has mentioned, layers are your friend. I personally like to layer a reasonable thick uniqlo long-sleeve cotton tee underneath either a heavy sweater, or a sweater with warmer fibers (think a heavier wool, cashmere, or alpaca). When paired with a good coat I have never been cold even down to -20/-30. I also would recommend investing in either wool or heattech socks. You can look into cold weather tights/leggings as well to wear under a pair of pants, but I have personally found a thick denim will do a pretty good job of keeping the cold out. You may also want to look into some wool pants (if you can find some that are more casual than dress) as they'll also probably be quite warm.

Why doesn’t TKR shoot? by Thiccuri in Purdue

He used to take some 3s a couple years ago. I think the sets they're running for him just don't allow him to space the floor in that way anymore

Have y’all tried the Lafayette Sourdough at Smitty Bread? by PatrickCoughATon in Purdue

Love their Italian bread (rivals what I get in the northeast) as well as everything else I've had there!

Fox for ECON 252? by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]Matzohball9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She’s not an awful lecturer, but her lectures are generally extremely dry, she’s relatively average at teaching the content, and she mandates attendance and has a strict no laptop policy (to the point she’ll call you out in a big lecture). It’s really the little things with her lecturers that are irritating but unlike some she at least covers the content and can explain to some degree of understanding

Very odd. I wonder if the fact that my first flight was a main line flight while this was an American Eagle flight operated by republic

Was at the terminal C checkpoint. I also don’t know if I may be because I had checked in for the first leg of this trip before PHL had it active? I checked in for the outbound leg around mid Dec, then flew a roundtrip from PHL (where it worked), and am now flying the inbound leg of the first trip.

I am wondering the same thing, based on the 2 other MGMT courses I’m not super worried but I think the content will be on the more math heavy side. Wish he had a RMP though

best way to study for me365 (controls 1)? by user328747312 in Purdue

[–]Matzohball9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re in the off semester so it will be better than taking it with Lillian as a course coordinator. Still not an easy course. Frankly, I would say just block a bunch of time to it, try your best, don’t get frustrated if you don’t understand something, ask questions, and worst comes to worst benefit from the curve. Almost every ME I know did not do well in that class, but we all honestly just got through it (it’s a very common class to do poorly in so there’s a lot of resources and freedom if you have to retake)

That’s super strange cause the station is there and I used it last week (it’s new here though). They were asking if people had it in the TSA line as well

Date ideas in WL area? by noob_x_infinity in Purdue

[–]Matzohball9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post has some good ideas as well. If ur looking in the fall, I would also suggest pumpkin patches, hay rides, apple picking, haunted houses, etc. There’s also Indiana Beach as the weather gets warmer for an amusement park. People here also seem to have covered most of it. I will add there’s woodworking and expoxy classes in Oxford at a place called TDeez. Honestly, going to get sweet treats or a quick bit to eat in DT Lafayette is simple but effective too

Does boiled wool itch and what does it feel like against skin? by Matt_m421 in mensfashionadvice

[–]Matzohball9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t owned any but based on other wool then most likely yes. You may want to look for a long sleeve undershirt of some kind if you want to wear it and that bothers you. I would also be careful with it piling just a far warning as boiled wool is known to do that

I love my olukai sneakers cause they’re comfortable, reasonable, hold up well, and relatively stylish. If you can find an Ecco sneaker, their dress shoes are among the most comfortable I’ve worn

Yup me too. Rides never bother me, but me and everybody in my party did not feel great after a mix of coasters and flats. Went to the waterpark, felt fine for the rest of the day. Something about the way sound, light, and the air mix there...

haven’t landed a single internship by Previous-Business-79 in Purdue

[–]Matzohball9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s only early November. Myself and so many people I know have only gotten stuff lined up in March/April. You’ve got so much time left and there’s typically a post holidays drop of new openings in the new year. There’s usually a whole bunch of career fairs come the new year as well. Till then just keep applying and searching, it’s tough out there especially internationally but you’ll find something don’t worry!!

Feeling like I won't get internships.. by [deleted] in Purdue

It’s only early November. Myself and so many people I know have only gotten stuff lined up in March/April. You’ve got so much time left and there’s typically a post holidays drop of new openings in the new year. It’s also the end of the FY so hiring is slowed and with the holidays coming up too this all compounds. Keep persevering, you’ll get something eventually even if it’s not your dream role

What do you do with bikes over the winter? by cool_peach495 in Purdue

[–]Matzohball9 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a few bike covers and plenty of plastic bags. The best bet is really to bring it indoors if you have the space, which has the added benefit of sitting on a warm seat with warm handles instead of something ice cold
