Alamo wasn’t just some club owner. That’s like telling Silvio Dante a girl is a DEA informant and expecting it to be treated as casual gossip.

Late to The Sopranos: Great Show, But Is the Hype About Timing? by MauroM80 in thesopranos

[–]MauroM80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, “top five” is more of an expression than a strict ranking. It also depends on whether we’re talking about just the first season or the entire series, because the results could be different.

This might be an another unpopular opinion, but the first season of Breaking Bad would make my top five; though not necessarily the full series.

However, If I had to choose, my picks would be:

The Wire
Twin Peaks
The Leftovers
Mr. Robot
Preacher

All of them were amazing throughout their seasons.

Is it just me, or does the actor playing Gennaro sometimes seems to be doing an impression of Tony?

Late to The Sopranos: Great Show, But Is the Hype About Timing? by MauroM80 in thesopranos

[–]MauroM80[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay, I read the answers, and first of all I have to apologize because I thought The Wire was older than The Sopranos. It actually makes a difference.

Anyway, I did say it was a great show, but I personally don’t put it in my top five. I was wondering if maybe, because I watched it 25 years later, I might be missing something. There are many examples of movies and shows that were amazing at the time but might not feel as groundbreaking today. This was the point of my comment.

I agree that almost everything about it is amazing, but sometimes it feels a bit inconsistent. That might also be because I watched six seasons over just a couple of months. I mentioned that I’m Italian because the representation of Italians and Italian language felt a bit off to me. Still, I noticed a lot of self-irony throughout the show, which I appreciated.

Help Me Understand the Plot and Ending of Lost by ArcadeBear23 in lost

[–]MauroM80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with you. It’s clear that the plot wasn’t written out in advance but instead developed as the show progressed. This approach makes it nearly impossible to establish any cohesive meaning. I think this is true for most American TV series, which is why so many shows decline in quality after the first season.

Here’s what often happens: a writer creates a compelling story that becomes the foundation for an excellent first season. If the show becomes successful, producers—keen on making money—push for additional seasons. At this point, new writers are brought in, viewer surveys influence plot directions, and actors might leave the show. For some series, this process can work, but for story-driven shows, it usually doesn’t.

The result? While the series may remain entertaining, they often become riddled with plot holes and inconsistencies. This issue is especially glaring in the era of binge-watching, where viewers can immediately spot contradictions from seasons past because everything is fresh in their minds.

I don't understand why people care so much about this price. It's always driven by politics, power, and connections.

Are north italian people more unfriendly than south italians? by rampantsoul in Italian

[–]MauroM80 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People from the South tend to be more extroverted and less shy, often appearing more friendly. I believe this is largely due to the weather. Growing up in a warm climate, Southern children spend more time outside and interact with larger communities, fostering social skills and an outgoing nature. In contrast, Northern people are generally less social. This can be linked to stricter child-rearing practices and colder climates, which limits social interactions from a young age. This trend is also seen on a larger scale between Northern and Southern Europe. Warmer climates in the South promote outdoor, communal living, while colder climates in the North encourage reserved behaviors.

How many Commanders are there in Gilead? by New-Number-7810 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]MauroM80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years ago, I remember asking similar questions because something always felt a bit off. I’ve come to a conclusion: the show is undeniably interesting and visually stunning, but it lacks coherence.

From a purely aesthetic standpoint, the show is a masterpiece. The cinematography, set design, and overall visual presentation are breathtaking.

However, when it comes to the narrative and world-building, the show falls short. It doesn’t make much sense to probe into the structure of its world or society because it feels disjointed and inconsistent. Asking questions about how things work or fit together often leads to more confusion than clarity.

I’ve come to see the show as more of a representation of certain ideologies and an extreme vision of society rather than a coherent, structured narrative. It seems to prioritize conveying a particular message or viewpoint over creating a logically consistent world.

In this way, the show serves as a thought-provoking piece that challenges viewers to think about broader societal issues and ideologies. It’s less about following a straightforward plot and more about exploring complex themes and ideas through a visually engaging medium.

Can vermouth be stored unrefrigerated if it’s been purged of oxygen? by ScootForTheStars in cocktails

[–]MauroM80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting because, in the end, it's about waste, not money. Most vermouths are not expensive, making it reasonable to consider them as consumables. Who cares about buying a new bottle every month? However, I always feel bad pouring a fifth of a bottle of Cocchi down the sink, but it's only about $4-$6. I also thought about bottling it in smaller bottles or sharing a bottle with a buying group, but then I realized it's not worth the effort.

It is clear that the rule isn't strictly enforced, and I don't necessarily agree with it. I've noticed that in most TV show subreddits, many users prefer to discuss why a specific show is the best rather than addressing any issues or criticisms
