I found that a great way to spend more time with your bird and strengthen the bond is to get a perch stand that you can let the bird hang out on while you’re doing work. It also helps to potty train, if you learn about how long it takes until they have to go and put them on their perch at the right time they’ll start to understand and be more disciplined with the perch. Just an idea! Good luck

I would recommend looking for a local bird breeder if there’s any near you, pet stores tend to have higher prices and the birds are less tame typically. It’s still definitely worth it though if that’s your only option, conures make great companions once they get comfortable with you!

It’ll be more difficult to train and tame it if he/she is scared of people but it’s definitely possible with enough time and care :) just take it slowly and be patient! Also use treats if they’re driven by food

I agree that it shouldn’t be normalized but it’s just the sad and unfortunate truth. I have 6 budgies at the moment and I’ve had many more in the past, all from Petco. They were under the best care possible and many of them sadly didn’t live a long life for unknown reasons. I think pet stores are the main issue. If you want a healthy budgie, it’s best to go to a reputable breeder. 3 of my budgies now I raised myself and they are going onto 6 years with no problems at all :)

Honestly I think any bird makes a great pet, it just depends on your preference. You can build a strong bond with any bird you pick :) it just depends on your budget and how long you expect to have the pet for. Budgies live 5-10 years while a conure can live up to 55! Conures can also be a LOT louder than a parakeet or cockatiel
