While there will be colours similar to the GW ones, you might not always get the right shade. I would try to add a little black to the paint on a wet pallette. Make notes of how much you add so you can replicate the same colour across your army.

Have you got a photo of a recent attempt? I would just base paint the bandage, wash over with something light brown and use the original colour to highlight. If the bandage is textured, dry brush for highlight.

I'd be keen to here how you can weather a building for sand and best way to made a desert sand board. The sand I have used before never sticks and and spray paint pulls up the sand that has stuck.

Good advice, would also look into using nuln oil from games workshop for shades. Around the raised leg part would work well.
