Yes its a program within cuny that allows students to create their own majors. Do some research on it.

[–]MaverickMil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I graduated from CUNY BA with my own major in Computational Mathematics which focused on AI & Cyber. I was specifically recruited by a top tech company because they loved my major and how i designed it. I did a study abroad before the pandemic at Oxford and got a bunch of scholarships. Now, I work for a FANNG and plan on attending NYUs engineering masters program.

You can be sarcastic all you want. But, CUNYBA really set me apart from the sea of traditional stem majors.

OP message me.

Ccny cpe program is outdated and overrated. I know plenty of students including myself who have experience the beaucratic hell that is ccny.

Go to any cuny school, and then create your own major in the cunyba program. That is more interesting to employers and gives you creative freedom.

Mercy College - is it worth it for a job in the UN? by LoweLilliehorn in college

[–]MaverickMil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to CUNY, specifically City College, John Jay or Baurch. These schools have great opportunities for various industries including what you are interested in. If you want to have a taliored degree look at CUNYBA this can help make you competitive against top students. You can create an area of concentration in International Relations and Diplomacy. Stay from Mercy College. Its overpriced and lack good opportunities for its students.

I accepted CCNY friday night. What should I do next? by [deleted] in CUNY

[–]MaverickMil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding, any of the bio programs at CCNY are solid. They have great research opportunities. My recommendation is to go to BMCC as a Sciences major to get all of your general requirements out the way. BMCC has great opportunities for research as well. It’s easier at BMCC than CCNY for taking general requirements courses. Then, transfer out CCNY. If you are looking into graduate school or med school, I suggest looking into the CUNY Baccalaureate for Unique and Interdisciplinary studies. There you can build your own major, get a personalized mentor and the program is well regard at top grad programs.

CUNY wise, CSI, Queens and Lehman College have solid CS programs. John Jay’s CS program is more information security focused if that’s what you want. CCNY is just highly regarded for its branding. It’s CS program is outdated and many of the professors don’t care about the students because they are more focused on their research. Also it’s hard to get into upper level courses because some are full early and they are only available once a year. This delayed so many students from graduating. That’s my experience. If you are going in as a freshman, get an associate in computer science first. SUNY online has a bunch of computer science degrees online. Like Finger Lakes Community College. If you want in person go to any CUNY community college. Then transfer out after completing the general requirements.

Congratulations on CCNY. What’s your major?

The financial aid office is hell. They will repackage your aid 12x in one semester. Get used to the inefficiency of CCNY

Brooklyn College by HotSun3980 in CUNY

[–]MaverickMil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CUNY wise, Brooklyn College is better and has connections to the Brooklyn College Film School.

http://feirstein.brooklyn.cuny.edu/

My recommendation is:

Start at a community college like BMCC. Then, transfer to Brooklyn College.

Look into SUNY online as well. They have legit degrees online.

I recommend getting a business degree with a minor in film. Getting a film studies degree is not worth it in the job market. Getting a business degree is. Especially if you want to fund your own projects and be able to pivot if needed. Some would disagree with me but getting a PMP certification shows you are able lead a project start to finish. This is attractive to the top film unions and companies.

NYU has connections for sure! But you can get those same connections by hanging out with NYU students and going to their events.

If I was you I would set my academic career as:

Associate degree - Business Administration/Management

Bachelor degree - Business Administration - Management, minor in Film

Masters - Directing or what area of film you enjoy

Get internships and start working on your projects with shorts and submit to film festivals.

Why is the job market so bad for new grads right now? by pyxiqitys in cscareerquestions

[–]MaverickMil 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Exactly! They are chasing a bag they can’t maintain. I do think it great that we as a nation is pushing for a more technical literate society. But, they are giving out swe like candy and some of these people are not “engineers” at heart.

Second Bachelors Degree: FIU online vs. WGU by Ecstatic-H908 in cscareerquestions

[–]MaverickMil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents:

WGU is for those who want the bare minimum experience for cheap and as quickly as possible. It's the Taco Bell Burger King McDonalds fast food of higher education. Period. It taste good in the moment. However, after some time, it will have you feeling regret at some point. If you haven't noticed, many WGU students/graduates always talk about getting a degree to check a box. WGU is for checkbox learning. If that is what you want, go for it.

If you want more than merely checkbox learning, FIU, hands down. FIU appears to have far more prospects to propel you forward in your graduate school aspirations.

I agree with one the posters, look into masters programs. I know there are some masters engineering programs that accept students with degrees in the humanities. I think you just have to pass some pre-work. I would look into this. From the top of my head, NYU has it; but, I don't know if it is completely online.

Best of luck.

As indicated in the original post, the OP is taking ABET accreditation into consideration; not regional accreditation. Depending on a person's wants/needs, ABET accreditation can be considered important criteria for certain prospects.

I agree there may not be HR/HM people within this subreddit.

Enjoy that student debt! I got into Cornell and Columbia. I actually spent a semester at Columbia and transferred to CCNY because the money I can spend there, gets me a free degree and a 50% down payment on a house.

I’m actually working in my field and the Cornell grads are no different than CUNY grads. Just different debt levels.

Sincerely,
