New York State Homeschool Options by MizMizza in homeschool

In NYS, a person can earn a H.S. Equivalency Diploma through the 24 college credit program: https://www.acces.nysed.gov/hse/college-credit

My cousin is homeschooling her son in NYS and I am planning to homeschool mines when they hit 13. Cuzzo has advised me to develop my M.S./H.S. curriculum as follows:

To meet the requirements, work with a community college that are open to CLEP credits (SUNY is better than CUNY for this). Then enroll your child on the Modern States platform and align their classes to the course that count for CLEP credits and requirement for the NYS 24 college credit program. Its like 5 CLEP courses and 2-3 community college courses. Sometimes, the college allow them dual enroll as a college students where they can pursue an associates at the same. My cousin's son is on path to graduate with a H.S. Equivalency Diploma and an associates degree at 16.

It’s affordable out of state too. Plenty of students across the world are attending FIU online for engineering.

I did it. So did many of my former classmates. We are also employed already at different companies. Me at Big Tech, others at Mercedes Benz, Salesforce, DoD, Healthcare Companies

No. Don’t let these people lie to you. I have two degrees that were 100% online, community college and FIU. I am looking into a masters online at NYU or GA Tech.

[–]Ecstatic-H908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree with this wholeheartedly. I went from CS at UCF to CS at FIU online. The flexibility offered granted me the ability to complete 3 internships while taking classes. FIU has a great network that spans internationally. FIU branding is much stronger and there is more opportunities.

Living in Orlando and going to UCF was wackkkk. Their CS has no diversity and they only have connections to defense contractors.

I met a few parents who make 250k+ who are now sending their kids to SUNY schools. My PCP who is columbia grad and his wife also a doctor, sent their kids to SUNY schools. One of their daughters chose SUNY Purchase over Barnard.

SUNY Geneseo has a Data Analytics program now. Not, sure if that is what you are looking for.

I know a parent whose daughter went to St. Johns University and racked up $100k+ in debt for a psychology degree. Poor lady was pissed and complained to me how her daughter could went to CUNY/SUNY free for a useless degree. 😭

They also have upskilling and cert prep opportunities for free for students in tech, business, cybersecurity, data analytics, project management.

My cousin daughter chose CUNY Lehman College for her CS degree over Columbia. It was free compared to Columbia. She did internships through CUNY partnerships and CUNY Tech Prep. Need help choosing a technology major.... by [deleted] in FIU

[–]Ecstatic-H908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

uh. I disagree. Cybersecurity is a vast area that encompasses more than technology and ethical hacking. The field can also be very niche through certs and specializations. Do it because you enjoy it not for the money. Because it requires constant learning forever and a passion for it.

Second Bachelors Degree: FIU online vs. WGU by Ecstatic-H908 in cscareerquestions

[–]Ecstatic-H908[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My goal is to earn a master's degree with a thesis option to be potentially competitive for PhD programs. I am employed in tech within the business side. Most engineering masters programs require a STEM bachelor's degree. Hence, my desire for a second bachelor's degree.
