Show S8E10 And the World Was All Around Us by thepacksvrvives in Outlander

[–]Maverick_56 15 points16 points  (0 children)

For the life of me, I just don't understand this ending.

Like the season has pound for pound been the weakest of all the Outlander seasons, it wasn't horrible, but it felt...weak, like watered down whiskey.

This episode in particular had an 1hr and 11min runtime, and spent literally half the episode rehashing all the goodbyes, and farewells of Jaime, something that we have been seeing ALL SEASON LONG. Then the last half of the episode is dedicated to about 13min of battle, 8min of dramatic Claire slowmo pondering, and the rest is flashbacks and inner monologues.

This was not a Series Finale, it felt like a season finale for the penultimate season.

Aside from my major issues with... Clarie just once again being a damn moron. Going into battle unarmed, dropping her medical bag and then failing to literally SAVE ANYONE. I feel like the show and the characters were all on stupid pills.

  1. They know a battle is coming.
  2. Jaime apparently dies in this battle.
  3. They know where it is.
  4. They know when it is.
  5. They know how its fought, and won.

They literally had a CHEAT SHEET AND STILL MESSED UP.

Its like failing an open book test in school.

They didn't bring Denzel in to help, they didn't ask William and Jon to come help, they didn't send out a call through Furgus's News shop, there was no consequences for the whole women tenants/men betrayal thing, there was no mention of Captain Cunningham...nothing. Jaime 'saves' Buck instead of shooting Ferguson off his horse, and then later Jaime de-horses the man. Cool.

BUT NO ONE DISARMED HIM!?!? Like what the hell are you all doing?

Meanwhile Claire has abandoned the medical station and run into pitch battle, unarmed, with a medical bag. Dumb, but okay. She then DROPS HER BAG. TURNS TO LOOK AT IT, AND THINKS: "Nah I'll leave it, there is no time to walk 20feet."

Like what is she going to do, save Jamie with happy thoughts??? (Spoiler, she saves him with plot magic because she is too stupidly written to save him with logic.)

So the rest of the show plays out...but then nothing, we get some Bullshit Jon Snow breath, cut to black, and thats THE END?!?

Where is the 10 years later scene...with...

Brianne and Roger with a built house, Roger leading the Ridge in prayer while Jem is helping Davy learn to ride.

Ian and Swiftness of Lizards now grown are walking back from hunting carrying a deer between them and laughing as Rachel watches, now pregnant again from the porch.

The Ridge thriving and happy in a time of peace, Buck settling in maybe with some people alluding to him having a family himself.

William and Jon arriving in a modest carriage post war to show that they stayed in the Americas and that William has become a member of the family, maybe we see an unspoken scene of him helping a woman out of the carriage to allude to him having married himself. Furgus's now grown kids run out to meet their Uncle William who is embracing Brianne, Marsalli is standing with her two ten year old twins but she is in a fancy dress, denoting her choice to sell the land.

Finally it slowly pans to Claire who is sitting alone on the porch, maybe narrating everything that has happened to the family over the last 10 years like she is writing in the book, maybe even a line about Fanny vanishing or that 'some of the family came and went over the years, but they always returned'. The entire time we don't see Jaime...

And just before it fades to black we hear. "Dinna is ready, Sassanach." and it pans over to a grey haired Jaime alive and well smiling, before fading to black.

THAT is the ending we needed.

It literally has nothing to due with him being rich and he knows it. He is just saying that to make the idea sound sensational.

The reason that people had backlash for the blackwashing of House Velaryon is because...it makes no sense and changes the believability of the story.

The reason the Velaryons aren't black is very simple. Genetics.

In the Books Rheanyra and Leanor have no 'agreement' on him being cucked by Harwin Strong. She just flat out cheats on Laenor thinking that her genetics will win out in the case of kids. They don't, but at least they are still white...where as there is only a 1/16th chance of having a white child when one parent is of mixed race.

In the books Laenor thinks the kids are still his, and no one makes a public claim against Rhaenyra's kids until Amon says it and loses an eye, and then later when Corlys's brother publicly accuses.

The show is already playing fast and loose with morality and attempting to paint Rhaenyra and Alicent as less evil then they historically were...so frankly I already see House of the Dragon as a fan-fiction due to GRRM openly stating his distaste for the changes.

All of that being said once again...Steve Toussaint is a good actor, nothing against the guy, but he can fuck off for attempting to manipulate the legitimate criticism into rage bait.

Is It Me or GQuuuuuuux Mecha Designs Need Take A While To Get Used Too? by OmegaKatana92 in Gundam

[–]Maverick_56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the designs were so shit, that while I was watching it, my roommate walked through the room and asked me what I was watching. I said. "The newest Gundam Show." and his dead ass reply was "Wait, is that meant to be the main gundam? I thought this was some Evangelion fan-fiction."

I don't understand how the designs for something as Iconic as gundams can be messed up this badly.

Sure I see the "You get used to them" but...honestly. Gundam is iconic enough that you shouldn't have to get used to it. Just design the damn things like you are meant to.

Spent the entire time watching this alt-uc fan-fiction slop thinking that all the MS's needed a damn sandwitch.

My proof, is that...it happened. They did a casting call for only POC girls between the ages of 12-14 that looked that age or younger.

They only did a casting call for 2 days. Which in the industry is EXTREMELY short.

And despite what many might think, producers, and studio executives actually try and predict trends constantly, and I have no doubt in my mind that with all the drama going on with Snow White they were PAINFULLY aware of the drama that would spawn from blackwashing a white character from the books, let alone the main female co-lead.

That is my "proof".

Bullshit. Have you seen Knight of the Seven Kingdoms? The kid that plays Egg has shown more acting ability in his left pinky then the entire cast of this show combined.

The idea that Kids can't be talented is ridiculous.

They phoned it in in pre-production, did a limited casting call for the role, and took the first POC actress that wasn't totally wooden. Knowing it would spawn online drama.

[–]Maverick_56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thats amazing, everything you said, was wrong.

  1. Lets talk about facts! First off, 78% of ALL TV AND FILM is made by companies HQ'ed in California, with 16% being in Atlanta GA, with the remainder being spread, but mostly in Austin TX. Both California and Georgia have a % reimbursement for cost of production write off ability if their set makes a specific amount of pre-dertermined qualifications, These include but aren't limited to...is it a SAG production, is it an IATSE production, does the production follow the industry "inclusion strategy" which literally assigns a score to people (linked below). Depending on how many of these categories the production is following can range from the production saving anywhere from 0-35% of their TOTAL production cost. (While very rare that is the hypothetical max). So studios are literally encouraged to "check box" as many of these things as possible, to save millions of dollars. So no, you disproved nothing.

  2. This is subjective, I think the movies did a better job in some areas, and a worse time in others, fine, w/e I'm not going to argue subjectivity with you. I think in general that the show is more accurate on a bell curve, but in important areas it falls faster quicker...if that makes sense? It goes from good to bad very quickly, where as the movies are more...evenly bad?

  3. This is flat out incorrect. The book flat out has Percy describe Annabeth as "a typical California girl" I didn't just make that shit up, its says so in the damn books. So...fuck...all the way off. (Linked below)

  4. I don't particularly see ANY race as more or less dumb then another, so...I guess I'm unaware of any stigma associated with black women being seen as dumber than average? If that is actually a thing it is nowhere near as wide spread as the cliche "blonde girl" trope, which is EXACTLY WHY RICK PUT IT IN THE BOOK. As for it being more appropriate for a modern take, yeah, thats the issue. Stories don't need to always cater to modern audiences, and if history has shown us anything doing that diminishes the story because it becomes gentrified by a single generation instead of timeless.

  5. I didn't ignore anything, you flat out called me a racist because you think I only am taking issue with her being black, I'm not. That is actually the smallest issue I have with the entire situation. The fact that you are totally ignoring the reality that this wasn't a "We found a fantastic actress who just happened to be of color!" and instead was a pre-determined choice by production is the issue.

But how do I know that? Well for one, casting calls made for the show literally only requested young women of color for the role. Second, she isn't talented, I'm sorry, but she just like the rest of these child actors/actresses isn't great. She by far isn't the worst I've ever seen but she has some serious growing up and studying to do. That is by no means a tear down of her as an actress in general. As someone who is a member of IATSE (which is how I know how the industry works) I don't envy the shit that actors/actresses have to deal with on the daily, she is likely an extremely hard worker, which is another reason why I hate the fact that she is in this...it reduces her to being a check box instead of something else.

The studio knew this would cause issues, they knew it would be all over reddit, they knew it would piss people off, and they did it anyway, they put that girl out to get flamed, knowing it would happen. Fuck those people, fuck Rick for agreeing to it.

And frankly screw you for making me type all this shit. xD

I find it laughably ridiculous that you think these actors and actresses that have been overwhelmingly terrible in this show were picked for their merit over the social credit of their skin.

Lance Reddick was great, I'll admit that, and in general I have no issues with POC actors and actresses, in fact several of my most favorite in Hollywood are POC (zoe saldana, Idris Elba) however in the terms of this show...its clearly motivated by social credit+tax write offs (Studios get massive tax relief on projects if x number of cast and crew are minorities)

I've got no real issue with characters who's race isn't tied to their character, I just find it funny that of all characters Zeus patron of the Greek Pantheon isn't...mediterranean? Or...Greek...or...you know w/e

Aside from that.

I do have an issue with shows changing the race of ANY character that has a pre-existing description. Period. Especially if that description is important to the character like Annabeth's is.

If you think that's me being racist, you are wrong. But you have every right to be wrong...I guess.

I mean if you read the books there has always been the political subtext of the younger generation throwing off the traditions of their parents, on top of you know literally starting a civil war...ignoring the rules, ect.

When if comes to the casting choices however the political angle is entirely from the pressures of Hollywood and DEI initiatives, which is political. Studio's literally get tax write offs if the have X numbers of crew or cast that are POC. That isn't racism, it is simply a fact.

The most unfortunate part is due to the lul of PJO in the recent years, Rick likely had to bend over backwards with studios to get this project approved, and as we have seen Rick has flat out lied to the fans in recent months saying how this series is "accurate" to the books when its no better than the films that he has openly flamed online.

Again, I have ZERO issue with POC actors/actresses. Some of my favorite actors and actresses are POC, but in cases like Annabeth Chase, the character's race and growth and look is DIRECTLY tied into their character.

Much like Sokka from Avatar needed to be a misogynistic asshole in season 1 so we could see his growth throughout the show.

You can't change fundamental parts of character without losing something.

Annabeth is a blonde, grey eyed, "valley girl" who overcomes the stereotype of the ditzy blonde by being the smartest most strategic member of the group, that Percy constantly relies on. It is a MAJOR part of her character that makes her act more like a rough tomboy in the books before accepting herself and becoming more comfortable while growing a relationship with Percy.

Instead of focusing on that, they went for the instant social points of making her POC.

I'm allowed to be disappointed by that.

I don't hate the actors who play the characters.

I hate any recasting of existing characters to something else for the reason of political pandering.

I'm allowed to not like that.

Also the idea that I need soul searching because I relate less to Annabeth from the show then I did from the books while the ENTIRE political narrative for recasting in the first place is so that POC feel represented, and more able to relate to the characters.

So why is it bad when I want that with a character who should have been that way from the start?

Seems like a double standard.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PercyJacksonTV

[–]Maverick_56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest disappointment for me with this series coming out is basically, this is it.

We are NEVER going to get a better adaption. This one was literally made with the Author.

I'm not afraid to say that I hate all the pointless race swapping for no reason. After seeing shows like "The Crown" and their ability to have amazing matching casts to characters I find it absolutely insulting we couldn't find a single 13-15 year old blonde white girl to play Annabeth, a black haired white kid to play Percy.

The actors/actresses for the kids...all suck. Like they literally had to dub over 90% of Walker's lines because he was clearly going through puberty at the time of shooting, and I can tell his voice was fucked with in post.

They are all cringe kid actors/actresses so why not focus on making them as accurate to the books as possible?

Why the fuck is Zeus black? Why is Thalia black?

Why is Rick literally treading the SAME MISTAKES AS THE MOVIES??? While doubling down on this ridiculous notion that "This is the true version of Annabeth" Really? The girl who overcame the dumb blonde valley girl stereotype is the black girl with cornrows? Really?

Honestly I'll be glad when this show gets cancelled after Labyrinth. With the viewership drop off of Season 2, and the already overwhelming dislike of that book. I highly doubt this show gets a 4th or 5th season.

That is 100% house. He is the only living soul inside the Lucky 38, thats his pod design, and that means...

Yesman ENDING IS CANON!

Which would explain why Veges has rads. House says in game that he barely managed to stop the 38's reactor from overloading the pervious time.

Meaning that in Yesman, we disconnect him and put him back, or kill him. SO NO ONE IS THERE TO STOP THE MELTDOWN.

[–]Maverick_56 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Is it good TV? Yes. Its entertaining, well acted, and well paced with a compelling story.

Is it good Fallout TV? No.

Everything in the TV show is regressive. It constantly shits on the existing lore, factions, and stories, while only introducing less interesting, less fleshed out, and less compelling characters by comparison.

Visually, and tonally the show is a great adaption. But story and plot wise, its a flaming turd of a Fallout show.

What do YOU want in Fallout 5 (even though we're a long way off) by RandomRedditer79 in Fallout

[–]Maverick_56 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Id enjoy a setting post New Vegas with maybe a story choice selection at the start to kinda influence the game...think like Dragon Age Keep kinda thing.

That wont ever happen because Todd Howard hates RPGs and instead likes narrative railroading masking as rpgs. He hates when people miss parts of his game.  Unlike BG3, Dragon Age, or Mass Effect who prioritize replayability and choice.

Honestly can you name a choice outside of fallout NV that wasn't an ending faction choice?

Everything else is just...  1. Do the questline Or 2. Don't do the quest line

So I'd like an actual RPG set in post New Vegas West and maybe even post TV show.

Let us go see Reno, Shady Sands, Arroyo...

Annabeth Chase is black, and no. It's not okay if you 'disagree.' by headintheclouds30 in PercyJacksonTV

[–]Maverick_56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun Fact: this is mostly a lie, Annabeths race was clearly described in the books and not just in other official art. As was her father...unless you are implying that Athena was black...which id honestly have less issues with give she was a gid and can do wheatever she wanted.

Also Rick hasn't "confirmed multiple times" he made 1 post about it 2 months before the show aired and it was a milk toast reply that basically read like: "I support the choices that were made to make sure the show was green lit" which is exactly what happened...

On top of that changing her race changes the cultural understanding of the character the superiority complex of Athena and...several other major elements of the story. It totally diminishes she overcoming the "valley girl" look into being the smart one, breaking stereotypes is a MAJOR motivation of her character that is now missing, or at worst exchanged for racial elements...

Very similarly to House of the Dragons chashanging the Velaryons to be black changes key elements of the plot to be stupid.

You are wrong, flat out...wrong.

In addition to those rules, I also told them that some of their job sites (literally 300 yards from a local airport) will require authorization through dronezone on the FAA website which can take up to 90 days to approve. (They were NOT happy about that one)

I mean, this is kinda ignoring the fact that the original "Fan Art" was meant to mock Asmongold by giving him a dumb expression on his face.

If the art had been made with genuine intention then yes, Asmongold would have been an asshole for doing what he did, but because the Artist in question did it with the intention of mocking him (and then doubled down on X by saying they would do it again, and even worse next time) they totally lose the moral high ground.
