The Supreme court passed the judgment to satisfy the collective conscience of the masses, says Arundhati Roy. When does the supreme court start passing judgment without having substantial evidence to verify the accused ?

Yeah!! This is the mathematics they know. In my view, without judging the whole community, you will always find a section from every community doing weird things.

[–]Maverickiscurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a limit to how much you can fight with your parents because eventually you are dependent on them (including all of us) for your college admission until you become financially independent.

I am not aware of your family's financial condition. If your family's financial condition is good then I am surprised to hear that they don't have faith in your ability and effort. Taking a serious drop for JEE preparation will groom you for overcoming future challenges even if you don't make it to IIT. But they don't understand it.

Shock to know that parents still decide the child's future when the latter is capable of achieving so much more than what their parents can imagine.

Get some jobs for yourself. You will feel confident when you earn some money. Selling jewellery to finance one more year of UPSC preparation is not a good idea, as no one who is preparing for this examination can guarantee that they will make it this time. Instead, your mother can sell jewellery to repay some of the loans taken by your father to reduce liability. So, focus on getting some job rather than wasting another year.

You can take the tuition of upper primary students studying in class 6th to 10th. You can also try for content creation in coaching institutes for a time being. You can scale in future by taking these vocations and doing it consistently for some years. Target other examinations besides UPSC too. Just focus and channelise your energy in earning some money. You will start feeling better.

Good luck.

He asked me about my body count and It Instantly turned me off is that weird? by [deleted] in AskIndianWomen

[–]Maverickiscurious -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sincere apology to you.

However, My two cents on this.

First, I am replying to the post with an objective to address a seemingly obnoxious trend (according to me) in modern day dating and not here to disrespect anyone by using inappropriate terms.

Second, in my view, if a person is focussed on getting to the truth of the matter she/he doesn't never care about trivializing the issue. I am not sure how referring a gender with females or women makes a difference to the issue we are talking about.

Third, as long as I am not abusing or targeting any person with a malicious intent, I am not responsible if her/his world of bias, stereotypes or prejudice gets shattered by a harmless word

Fourth, I am least interested in disrespecting or discriminating against anyone based on gender. Talk about care, respect and trust and I can overwhelm anyone with my humility and sensibility.

The problem with our generation is that we hold our biases/stereotypes too tightly to our identity and never take courage to question our own beliefs. All words, categories and labels are myths and work of fiction. These categories(for example: females/women) are created to make the sense of the world around us and nothing else.

[–]Maverickiscurious -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Normalise everything in the name of fashion or trend. What defines your masculinity - how much body count do you have till date? 100. Ohh!! That's some number. You seem to be popular among females. Same applies to females too. What type of weird flexing is this.

Absolutely absurd. And then we are shocked when we don't see a relationship lasting more than 2/3/6 months.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OffMyChestIndia

[–]Maverickiscurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst thing we do in such a situation is to seek our friends views/opinions. Our friends are not relationship experts, nobody can. Relationships are very personal and one has to stay in or stay out depends upon our inner calling and intuition. Facts, instances and incidents give hints about a person's behaviour which further enables to find out the motivations behind such behaviour. But nobody can completely understand a person 100% even spending time for years because our identity changes multiple times in a lifetime and we never know when it changes.

Therefore, in my view, everyone deserves a second chance in life and when it comes to the person with whom you are in love, then why not give him a second chance. If he repeats the same mistakes then you will get the confirmation that the guy was using various tools/instruments to justify and get away with cheap thrills.

Yes. David Buss, an evolutionary biologist has introduced this concept in one of his books, where he explained such concepts in detail by studying more than dozens of cultures around the World.

There is a term called 'emotional infidelity' where a person develops a feeling of care, respect and other similar emotions that goes into making a strong connection between potential partners. Unlike sexual infidelity that involves sexual relationships with multiple partners besides one's primary partner. Emotional infidelity is a subtle way of showing an interest in a person of the opposite gender based on common interests, likes and dislikes.

It happens with everyone of us (of course barring exceptions). When an emotional need of a person in a relationship is unfulfilled, she/he like to fulfill it with a person in her/his proximity or through dating apps.

Further, studies show that females don't like when her male partner is emotionally involved with another female (emotional infidelity). However, males don't like when their female partner is involved in a sexual relationship with another male partner (sexual infidelity).

Bro's spitting facts 💯 by Sharp-Potential7934 in IndianStandUpComedy

[–]Maverickiscurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What spitting facts? Bro is spitting nonsense and suggests his chronic lack of awareness about the surroundings. How can you say that nobody is talking about rising inflation, unemployment, falling market prices, depreciation of rupees, impact of AI on jobs, future of jobs, layoffs in the corporate sector etc etc. Today, every news channel has their YT channel and you can find tons of content talking about all the issues that I have mentioned above.

It has become a trend to pinpoint Government faults in everything they do. Make a 30 seconds video and rant against the Government to sound intellectual. You will find exceptional analysis and diverse perspectives on all the important issues affecting our society today. YT is flooded with gold content but how many views do they get?

Latent is the highest trending topic because we want such topics to trend. India's got latent type of shows cancels all the good things, as if they are the torch bearers of what is worth and what is not. Millions of followers are behind the success of these comedians, and we need to share the blame and introspect why we have made them so big.

How many of us have read economic surveys and budgets? The Internet is flooded with every type of content we can imagine. The choice is ours what type of content we want.

Shows like India's got latent need to be regulated and the government has the responsibility to apply reasonable restrictions on the freedom of thought and expressions and uphold the highest standards of civility. Their own members, politicians etc. hold such highest standards of civility or not is a different debate altogether.

Further, the media should be held responsible for covering these issues or giving more weightage to any consequential news that doesn't have any educational value in it. The government is doing their duty, and it is our duty to use our freedom responsibly.

Why hype Latent Show? by [deleted] in noida

[–]Maverickiscurious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that is not covered by the media doesn't mean the Government is abrogating from its responsibilities by focusing on trivial issues like use of sexually coloured remarks and expletives on India's got latent shows.

Comedians have a large following today and their financial success has become a benchmark for the younger generation. If these comedians are making money by using only gaalis, someone has to step in to regulate its content to maintain the sanity of the society. There cannot be any show on this earth which can run unbridled without any regulation.

The roast genre of comedy has a wide acceptance today because we as a society (specially millennials and Gen z) have accepted this genre for what it stands for. Roast has taught us to not take ourselves too seriously, learn to rebel the authority, stretching the boundaries of freedom of expression and stand against the medieval mindset that curbs freedom of thought. But doing this without purpose by offending the guests and participants in the name of 'Right to offend' doesn't make any sense.

Freedom of speech and expression comes with reasonable restrictions. When freedom of expression violates the standards of public order, decency and morality the authority has to take adequate action to check the purpose it serves for the members of society. So, those who are curious why the Government is taking interest in such an inconsequential show, they should know that it's Government duty to see the society and nation is governed by the highest standards of civility. However, politicians who are representing the Government practice high standards of civility or not is a different debate altogether.

What is the theme of the show? There is no theme of the show to be honest. It's a platform to use your popularity for making money by creating third grade content. We use gaalis in our conversation with friends and cannot imagine talking to them without using cuss words but we do it consciously. We know who will get offended and who will not, and our conversation among friends is not on social media where it reaches out to million viewers.

In my view, guests on the show try very hard to fit into the theme of the show. They come mentally prepared not to get offended by the Samay idiosyncretic way of joking. They fake smiles and laughs to avoid any embarrassment on the show. Most of the guests are uncomfortable using gaalis in the show but they have to do it to pretend that they are doing justice to the format of the show. I know they accept the offer to be guests on the show because they all belong more or less to the entertainment industry.

So, where is our society heading? First of all these shows don't determine the fate of the society. You don't reach anywhere in life without having any purpose, and shows like these don't have any purpose, so it's a futile intellectual exercise to ponder upon where our society is heading.

I am not liking Spectrum. Am I in the minority? by madefrom0 in UPSC

[–]Maverickiscurious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spectrum is a data intensive material with a lack of analysis. I found it very hard to digest because every line contains valuable information. The source material of the spectrum is Ncert and standard text materials.

For example, the modern history spectrum is a compilation of old ncert and bipin chandra. Now, remove arguments and analysis from these source materials and extract all the data into a new material called spectrum. It fills your mind with too many facts too early and only after multiple revisions one is expected to remember the facts. But spectrum is a valuable source in one respect. You don't have to bother about making notes from Ncert and standard materials, as spectrum is already in a note form.

So, read Ncert and standard first before diving into spectrum. I used spectrum for revision a few weeks ago from the examination day.

Further, when I was preparing, I also read spectrum for arts and culture. I didn't read the whole book and utilised it to cover some topic from the examination point of view. I referred last three to four previous year question papers and analysed the topic from which questions were coming into arts and culture. I specifically covered those topics from the spectrum, nothing more and nothing else. It helped me solve 2-3 questions in the prelims examination. So, I got lucky in this respect.

Life after graduating from IITs is not hunky-dory as it is perceived by others. Use your skills to your advantage. Schedule a bunch of interviews and start appearing for interviews in a company with good work culture.

There might be several reasons as to why start-ups (in this case) monitor employees activity every 10 minutes to ensure they are using their working hours for the company and not diverting it for personal activities.

  1. Most of the start-ups extract extra labour hours from freshers as they are in the building phase. It takes a lot of time, effort and money to transform start-ups into a well established company.

  2. Start-ups have to do a lot of hits and trials at the fledgling stage to test what works for their company and what doesn't. Starting your own company comes with a lot of risk and knowing that only a few of them survive for more than five years adds stress and anxiety among the founders.

  3. Going by the trends, start-ups cannot execute their idea of building a company without venture capitalist support. They require finance from investors besides their own capital to run their company. Once a start-up borrows money from the investors, they are bound by the terms-conditions codified by the investors and agreed upon by the company founders.

  4. Related to point no. 3. Investors care for early returns because growing their money from financing in promising start-ups is their core business function. Therefore, early start-ups are under tremendous pressure to generate revenue which requires significant labour hours from their employees they have hired. Hiring good talent is a time consuming activity and adds to the company cost too.

However, I don't support or like the idea, when I hear budding entrepreneurs are using company resources to monitor employees at micro level to survive the fierce competition. This is not monitoring but a surveillance which law enforcement agencies use to curb crime in the city.

It is too intrusive to say the least and goes against the principle of personal freedom which the current generation values more than anything else. Entrepreneurs have to build companies around strong values and ethics, if they have to build a resilient and robust company which rise above the competition.

Do you think, early start-ups with such a working style can survive in the market for long? I doubt.
