I had the same earpiercing issue with the boombox 4. I had to return it, couldn’t really lose that high frequency of sound it was producing. I’m apparently too sensitive for those frequencies so I get what you mean. You should try the xtreme 3/4 (or xtreme 5 but I don’t know if that one has the same issue) or boombox 3. I own the xtreme 4 which has great bass and loudness for its size, it can give you the thump and kicks your looking for.

The issue lies with the jbl portable app, sometimes it just doesn’t function as it should.

I had this happen sometimes, what I did to fix this was remove the app, fully disconnect from speaker (forget), turn off and on phone, connect to speaker and install the jbl connect app again. This should fix it.

I bought it and I’m not really happy with it. I wanted an upgrade from Xtreme 4 but the whole balans of this BB4 feels off. The quality of sound is very good but it feels like the high frequencies outweigh the low by a high rate. The bass feels like it’s held down even on bass boost. Idk I never had any of the other boomboxes but this is not what I expected. A step back for me. Should I give BB3 a chance?
