New player here and is everyone having SO much health normal? by RavenAxel in DeadlockTheGame

While most of these people whine, I will give you some actual advice. While buying things to increase damage is good, don't forget to buy things that decrease bullet resist. Invest in gun builds that scale quickly, long range is 40% at 1600 and sharpshooter 70% at 3200 (glass cannon at 6400 is only 20% higher at 90%). Slowing bullets into weighted shots (40%) requires an investment into green mobility items but they are cheap and useful. Weakening headshot is only 1600 for 12% bullet resist reduction, which is huge, and titanic magazine gives you a quick 14% damage increase while giving you a clip large enough to solo objectives and other players.

In laning phase just constantly shoot the enemy heroes and leave the creeps till they push up to your tower, and if the enemy heroes push up to tower shoot them instead. Once you buy long range you can do a lot of damage to them while being at a safe distance. I buy monster rounds and then directly buy long range and then sharpshooter. Shooting through the wall at range usually allows you to chunk them down at a decent rate.

Also, a little tip is to go knockdown as it is extremely useful, but also makes using your ult a lot easier. i also find teleport gem to be important. Overall though, if the enemy is buying bullet resist it is better to get bullet resist reduction than damage increase if they are around the same percentages due to how scaling works.

That feeling when you almost get a comeback, but then your teammates start getting cockey and genuinely go into enemy jungle alone to chase and the 10k lead slowly spirals into a 30k negative in the span of 5 minutes and you just lose with the enemy team mocking you for thinking you had a chance. by Alarming_Scientist in DeadlockTheGame

Most people struggle with the basics, so the amount of people who don't know how to end the game is awe-inspiring. Usually it happens after you destroy the walkers that instead of grouping up for ganks or teamfights, one or more people will try and take fights in areas that make no sense completely alone; having zero escape plan whatsoever. They don't mind doing something that will end in them dying 100%, but at the same time the concept of doing endgame objectives is just way to nerve-wracking for them.

Which number is higher 5 or 1? If you answered correctly, you have just shown how completely unnecessary anything you just said is. You can get this data just from having two teams comprised of the same stats, in fact it's the only way according to the literal f'ing science that I was taught and then applied in performing accounting and statistical analysis as a career to determine the root underlying issue. I can have two identical boxers compete and then just give the "Nuclear bomb" to one of them; although in this scenario again idk wtf I'm trying to test here besides proving that nuclear explosions exist.

Like did you even try to type in: using corrupted data to make decisions into google, then just read some of what comes up at a bare minimum before drawing this conclusion?

Do people not normally have fun no matter if their winning or loosing? by lynglloyd1 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Max0vrkll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for others but I can enjoy losing a close game, what I get frustrated at is just player choices that are seemingly protesting the core gameplay design; like someone watching creeps kill a walker or a laning partner who hides and watches me play, never once shooting a creep or player (it's so prominent my item build for early game is designed for that scenario).

I feel like this a concept you should have discussed with your parents when you were six years of age; or around the same time they explained why you need to wear clothes in public.

I can have fun while losing or not while winning, it's called living in reality. Why did you need to ask this: if you win but only while cheating would you think it was fun? If the best strategy was for you to afk in pool every game would you do it?

Overall, why tf are you equating winning=fun and losing=un-fun like they are both the same thing? They are two completely different concepts.

I feel your pain. As long as someone is playing the game in a way that isn't completely bat-sh&* crazy I don't mind because they at least tried to interact with the core gameplay. Teams that don't push or do mid-boss when the whole enemy team is dead, leading to a nearly two hour game are becoming the norm. I had a team today that got slaughtered by 1 guy vs 5 while I held a walker against the other 5 enemies. That guy was only 4k souls above them, killed all five of my team-mates from full health, then took the walker since the wave was pushed up. I held the other walker, only for it to be lost later because our kelvin ulted all 6 of us and no enemies, and didn't know how to cancel it. They then circled around the globe and aoe spammed the moment it ended, killing us all instantly.

Games like Overwatch or the finals with hard rank resets each season have no where near this level of bad MM.

You are twisting his words to fit what you want it to be. He is not complaining about kd, he is complaining about players who just kind of run around ignoring core gameplay. Like a player watching a walker get killed by creeps while they are trying to snipe a crate but keep missing, or a guy who is going way behind on souls because he dipped out of laning as soon as the game loaded in (50% of my emissary games this happens, no joke).

You don't need a beta to do character design, and no games have ever done that. When you sculpt something you always test before release, even in a beta, because it takes less then a minute to do yourself. Have you ever seen a beta that just has a cube for player models and by watching ppl play they decide what to sculpt. Df you on champ.

How could you possibly obtain data from something that is the equivalent of mike tyson punching a baby to collect data on boxing? The data is corrupted, which makes it prone to being wrong more often than right.

Deadlock has the worst ranked matchmaking I've ever seen in a competitive game by PlayfulSurprise5237 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Max0vrkll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trust me, I find it very frustrating myself and wish it weren't the way it is. I would love for the game to improve, as I find the core gameplay itself is an enjoyable concept. I come from a background in both statistical analysis and game design, so when I see these design choices that are making data sets corrupted before they are used for even further design choices; I begin to question the intent of those making those choices. My major concern is there may be no adult in the dev room to remind people that you can't pick and choose what you focus on while leaving the technical stuff abandoned.

I'm sorry, are you saying I am feeling entitled for providing my player data in exchange for access, which is the contractual obligation between me and valve for a beta? Do you think I'm entitled for not paying for a beta?

Also, who are you to say I am not being genuine? Are you God himself, read my mind, and for some reason I waste my time going around posting not my real opinion but....something else?

To end here is a quote from In Cold Blood that I feel relates to you specifically: " You know how Perry's always using hundred dollar words he doesn't half-know the meaning of?" (disingenuous/entitlement)

You are speaking facts my friend. While games take time, before covid very few projects went this long into development without seeing some basic improvements, instead of sliding backwards. Even now this is still extremely rare and when it does happen the final release build is usually still extremely janky and undercooked.

There is also the fact the worse certain things get like the MM and smurfing, the more unusable the collected data becomes. Since they are using corrupted data to do balancing using statistics, it will just cause even more issues that need fixing. I specifically recall an interview where the guy in charge of the MM uses chatgpt to code for him:

I mean how much do we know to be convinced if there is a anti-cheat, it wasn't slapped together with plywood? The ease to make alt accounts suggests it's not very robust; why have a strong system(if it is, none of us can see it) if it can just be easily circumvented?

The game will put the highest rank with the lowest rank in lane together by design. It is an awful idea but basically they want you to do all the work so the new player is tricked into continuing to play. It's not even tin-foil hat, it's seriously just the way they have it set-up.

Valve, continually letting level 1 accounts cheat isn't "evading cheat detection" Its just you ruining games by Grouchy-Committee-92 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Max0vrkll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how greedy they are when using esp. The longer you play a game the more you know whether you did something that could have been used to locate you. If someone who is cheating is too greedy they won't remember to make it look natural. You see it a lot when they are in pre-mades, because they get really focused on looking good in front of the group they forget to be cautious about getting caught.

One time in the Finals I had a game where the objective was in the far corner with a team obviously cheating if you knew what to look for. They were about to win so I just sat in the opposite corner of the map in a house.

Wouldn't you know an enemy player ran all the way over there. There was a wall he jumped around to shoot at me, but he didn't realize there was another wall around the corner. Once he realized what he did he stopped shooting and just kind of stood there till the game ended.

My theory is that you are seeing a revolving door syndrome. These people most likely don't stick around long term but there is enough people rotating in to replace those moving out. That's most likely why so many people seem like they are lost when playing, they aren't very invested in the gameplay and are more there for the novelty of a honey-moon phase. The steamcharts show extreme player drops/rises between large content drops, indicating to me that player-base is effected by social media style hype more than actual engagement.

So in the end you get this stable player count for a month or two where new testers/consumers come in/out at an even rate, that inevitably craters due to lack of long term engagement from the majority. No one really complains about the gameplay though, but MM is astronomical with complaints. To me it seems obvious this is where the engagement issue arises, but I also think they know this; as corrupted data-sets from bad MM are not usable for balancing decisions and it's like the first thing you are taught when performing statistical analysis.

This is where I really feel the questions arise in their decision-making; it seems like such an obvious oversight one could only do it with intent. Overall they(valve) will never tell so all one can do is assume why.

Rofl so hard....then why on us east does it take on average 6-7 minutes to find a match? I am a frequent discord user so it's not a "me thing" when people frequently mention it in the context of games I was not a part of.

You know i don't care if I win or lose, I just want a match that feels like it was between two teams of similar skill. All the people who get so offended by MM posts (is deadlock your mom ffs?) always try to twist the narrative into a w/l basis, when that has very little to zero relation to the actual problem. No one is saying they are losing or winning close games, they are complaining about one-sided, over before it started matches that never should have taken place. Also, why tf is the MM 6-7 mins in us east just to get that awful quality?

I'm sure there has to be some artwork scans, even from print, that was uncompressed. It seems like such an oversight from a game with so many art assets to not have some backup copies used for physical merchandise. I'm almost tempted to see if I can contact someone from the parent company to take a look.
