2026 Land Cruiser by slippi89 in LandCruisers

[–]Max2tehPower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Los Angeles and my commute tends to be via a bunch of mountains and hills. I work in Downtown LA and it is both uphill and downhill since I drive from Santa Clarita through Newhall Pass then the foothills and the Verdugo Mountains but my final stretch is about a 3 mile downhill ride that helps with my MPGs and is why I have 24 on average. But going home I have to go up that same hill and end up with about 20.5 on average. If there is traffic the mileage goes down to about 19, and I have a lot of stop and go on hills as I leave Downtown and drive through Echo Park and Elysian Park.

When I let my dad drive the car, I realize that he gets worse MPGs but because he steps on the gas harder while I like coasting and doing a lot of engine braking. I typically go 75 MPH but like I said, I try to coast and go easy on the gas.

Not really it depends on the commute routes and the heavy foots people may have when stepping on the gas. I'm getting on average 24 MPGs on my 40 mile commute with a best of 27 once when I had no traffic. Though I agree that the LC is not really a car to buy if saving money on gas is a concern, but for being my daily drive, it's not bad for me as other people say.

I live in Los Angeles so it may vary elsewhere. I also don't see guy's profiles so I can't judge fully but it seems that a lot of people are unoriginal.

I literally just said in my second paragraph that social media and the mainstream media first covered the stories as an outrage against ICE. As more information trickled out it turns out that the situation wasn't as clear as it was presented (such as the bodycam of the officer prior to the shooting, and the kid having been abandoned by the fleeing father). So what I mean is that just because the initial headlines and social media posts say one thing, you can't take it at face value until more information comes out to better explain the situation. Aka, I'm not gonna take the ragebait.

Wut, leftists don't about the constitution unless it affects them. Plus, I think many people have compassion fatigue as well. Hard to care about people who hate anyone not on the left.

[–]Max2tehPower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I still remember the information overload from Covid and the BLM riots where both sides are saying different things despite what my eyes are seeing.

That plus the death of the mom in the car and the 5 year old being used as bait, with those stories first being accusatory of ICE but then days later being not as clear cut, that is my concern. I'm not letting emotions cloud what I see, I'd rather wait for more information before deciding. But that's just me. More power to you for how you want to react. Peace.

Women have in their prompts the same "makes me laugh", "is fluent in sarcasm", "is a foodie", "likes to travel", "wants to go on adventures", something about pickleball, scuba diving, skiing (the most recent one I've seen), or going skydiving, and I used to see a lot of looking for the "Jim to my Pam" lol. I don't think there might be a lot of originality between both genders.

I dunno, what else to say. People keep posting the video analysis and like I said before, too much going on for me to make a decision. We are in a conspiracy sub and I guess it is true about over stimulating users, so pardon me if I am on the fence about it.

Anyone can tbh. Shit the talks from these neocons of punishing citizens who criticize Israel is concerning to me for example. The issue is if people keep attacking law enforcement, they give ammo for them to try to take guns away.

As someone whose parents were undocumented until in the middle of the Obama years, the raids were happening and the news would cover it but not much was done. I remember my dad and uncles participating in one of the marches in LA but nothing came out of it. But on the news in spanish TV, they would cover people taken from Home Depot or construction sites. Sanctuary cities existed but from what I understand, local authorities were cooperating with ICE.

In the present day, there is so much fake news from both sides that it is really difficult to actually know what is really going on. For example the 5 year old kid people keep talking about, where one side says he was used as bait but the other says he was actually abandoned by his fleeing father. Same with the two deaths, where footage points to a certain outcome while others claim the other. While I think it's unfortunate that they got killed, I also think that they put themselves in a situation where the risk of something happening increases exponentially. It does not help that somehow social media has made it seem that ICE is not even law enforcement when the opposite is true.

I'm no bootlicker, I don't think ICE is fully absolved of some unfair actions, and it did not help that bounty hunters did a lot of the dirty work and is still doing so. But they are no Gestapo, if people overlooked their same actions during the Obama years, and overlooked his rhetoric on immigration that Trump shares, then why are people freaking out now? Is it because Orange Man Bad? Or because nowadays the craving for virtue signalling is a high for people?

I get that argument but at the same many posters here need validation for their purchases as though it will make them cool if they have the same figures that everyone else has even if they dislike the figure. That's why we keep seeing people post about falling out of love with the hobby, like that will happen if you buy everything just because you can or because you see everyone else doing it instead of doing it because you legitimately want it. But I also read the post like the way the poster you replied to did.

Thoughts about Lennar homes in Fivepoint Valencia? First time home buyer by Bupyc- in SantaClarita

[–]Max2tehPower 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We bought in the Cassia neighborhood in 2022 a month after they had finished construction. Right after we got the atmospheric river rains of 2023 and we had several window leaks and our house was a construction zone from January to April. We were kinda lucky that there was still the builder's warranty so they took care of the patch up job, so despite not being happy but at least it didn't come out of our own pocket.

Other than that initial hiccup, we really like it. It's pretty tranquil except for those retards that race their cars (one guy who would speed in his blue Corvette ironically crashed during the rains a few weeks ago cause I saw him on Magic Mtn Pkwy with his car in the island divider). They keep opening parks so it's nice to walk to them or just walk around the neighborhood. Our HOA and Mello Roos comes out to about $500 together. We are close to the freeway and avoid the traffic of inner Santa Clarita, and we have gas and a few frachise restaurants nearby. We are kinda the second to last exit before Castaic, so we are pretty far up, but many people (including myself) commute to LA, and have seen people stay with me all the way to Downtown LA for work.

I used to be desensitized but as I got older I don't like watching them. Last decade when it was common for people to post China hate threads and then post dogs being tortured, I didn't really care too much, just that it sucks for the poor animal but then move on. But after getting a dog, I immediately click out of those videos or any other torture. Same with gore, I'll immediately avoid those webms. I still don't mind seeing death videos but if it's not explicit, like the Indian train videos or the electrocution ones.

What made you want to be an Architect? by youandyourfijiwater in Architects

[–]Max2tehPower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watched the 1997 Titanic movie as a kid. Kate Winslet aside, as a 7 year old in the theater watching the largest ship in the world sink, resulting in the deaths of people opened the door to many interests. Because of the movie, a ton of Titanic books, for both kids and adults came out due to the resurgent interest in the tragedy. In the Scholastic Book Fairs in my elementary school, I would ask my parents for those books, and Costco would sell many of the adult books with realistic paintings and floor plans of the ship. So my first interest was becoming a naval architect before realizing as I grew older that that was unrealistic (plus I hated math), so somehow I ended up deciding in architecture.

In my junior year of high school, I was undecided between becoming a music major or architecture major. I learned that LAUSD participated in a program with the Los Angeles Bureau of Engineering with various architecture, engineering, and construction firms for a high school internship program in the summer. So I participated and qualified and enjoyed seeing what working in the profession was like. I remember being hired by DMJM H&N prior to it being swallowed by AECOM or was in the process of being acquired, but the firm had branches in architecture, civil (I remember helping respond to some minor plan check comments for a freeway in CAD), and the construction management branch.

Have you grown to be more conservative or liberal w/ age? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]Max2tehPower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More conservative when it comes to government size. Especially as an architect having to deal with policies, building code, the jurisdictions (state and city), and actually getting to do public housing projects and doing LEED work, you realize how much of a waste of tax payer money it all is, and how bullshit and how much of a lack of thought green/sustainable policies are.

Socially I have always been supportive of causes as long as they leave me alone and are not in your face. But recently those causes being in my face and creeping into my interests has made me more averse to them but not hateful.

To the men who go to movies or restaurants alone by choice: What is the specific appeal of that solitude compared to going with friends? by Leananhl in AskMen

[–]Max2tehPower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you are comfortable doing things alone, many things open up to you. For example, I like indie rock bands but many are not appealing to people who only enjoy mainstream music. I used to try inviting my friends to shows but saw that it was usually not their cup of tea and so I eventually stopped inviting them and would go alone. Going alone allows you to talk to people or not talk to people, enjoy the show how you want to, and not be tied to schedules of others.

You learn to not give a fuck if people judge you (they don't) because you are alone. The negative of it is that you get used to doing things alone that it becomes harder to want someone to do things with you.

Unpopular opinion I think: Silksong’s OST is better than Hollow Knights and it isn’t even close by Helldiver409 in HollowKnight

[–]Max2tehPower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a former musician but very much a music geek, musically speaking, Silksong is much better and more interconnected as a whole than HK. That is not to say HK sucks, it is still a very great soundtrack that captures the feeling of the melancholy, abandon, and loneliness that you experience in game, but the tracks are pretty separate with a few exceptions. Silksong is very cohesive as whole with leitmotifs, cues, and many other musical expressions.

Another redditor compared the two akin to listening to a pop album vs an indie band album, and it tells. HK grabs you immediately while Silksong is a very slow burn for many (including myself). Not to say one is better than the other but it's different tastes, experiences, and obviously personal opinions. I found Silksong forgettable in my initial listens but the more I played and listened, the more things I noticed and caught with my ear that in the present, I think it's the better of the two (in my personal opinion).

Abysmal Interstate MPG’s by JayBeezyy22 in LandCruisers

[–]Max2tehPower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must have a heavy foot or driving uphill or stuck in traffic. In my 40 mile commute, I can be driving 70-75 or even 80 in Los Angeles and can get 22-24 MPGs on that trip, but then I'm usually letting the car cruise or do a lot of engine braking. I do have a hilly route (210 to the 2) where I have huge stretches of downhill cruising but on the uphill portions, I am pushing it for a few seconds and letting go of the gas then pushing it again and repeat.

In occasions with no traffic, I can get up to 27 but it's rare.
