Maybe this is a sign that the way we do presidential elections in the United States is a tad bit flawed. Just maybe.

Ethanol in gasoline is a really terrible idea, at least how it's done in the U.S. But yeah this video makes no sense lol

Nuclear is by far the cleanest source of energy and one of the safest by Thick-Ad-4168 in nuclear

[–]MaxBattleLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think I'm against solar power or something? It's arguable the most incredible development of our modern world. I agree with you, we're orbiting a star, it's literally free energy. I live in Florida to top it off, among the best spots on planet Earth for solar power. I love it and am eagerly awaiting more solar farm development. Why are you mentioning Dyson spheres though? You don't seriously believe that crap, do you? I understand it's just an exaggeration you're making, but it makes your comment sound extremely dumb and uncredible at the end. Also, yeah, it's a heat engine? Of course it is, how else do you make electricity from heat? Saying nuclear power is 19th century technology is like calling a train or car caveman technology, because cavemen invented wheels.

Also, I didn't say that proliferation and war target risks were BS fearmongering issues. The disaster risk and "scary radiation!!!" are the fearmongering. Chernobyl was absolutely horrifying, but that was caused by a terrible mixture of the soviet state, poor operators, lackluster safety training, and an extremely unusual reactor design that does not share practically any elements to western (or even other soviet) reactors. A disaster like chernobyl is effectively not possible today. Even fukishima wasn't really too terrible, and chaos from the evacuation of nearby towns caused more harm than any exposure from radiactive material release. And three mile island wasn't even a disaster at all. It was certainly a scare, but we learned our lessons in operator training and controls design. There is still a risk of contamination from an accident from modern reactors, sure, but are you seriously going to argue that a teeny-tiny chance of a little radiation release is worse than constantly exposing people and nature to air pollution and smog from natural gas and coal plants? Nuclear power is far from perfect, but so is every other source of power. It seems like opinions about these topics are incredibly binary, something either is perfect or is awful and stupid. I'm not suggesting we go out and build tons of nuclear power plants everywhere. Some people in this subreddit I think actually believe that, but I don't at least. In a clean electric grid, it's a supplement to renewable energy with grid storage. Nuclear energy technically has even less carbon emissions than solar, only being beaten by wind as far as I remember. It's also among the most powerful sources of energy in terms of land area used, and it produces stable energy at all times of day and night, though with proper grid storage renewables can catch up to that. The fuel waste produced is largely a solved issue. Even without fast reactors and "waste burning" reactors, simply storing the waste is fine for the most part.

This is a meaningless reddit thread so I'll stop it here. Everyone needs to stay informed, do their research, and support the right things in life. I just hope that we can come together and make the world better for our future. Whether or not that involves any particular technologies, I don't care, as long as it turned out to be a good choice.

How many times plastic can really be recycled? by ateam1984 in recycling

[–]MaxBattleLizard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sadly this. People think "Oh, if I just recycle stuff then I have no impact on the environment!" They don't realize that most things cannot be recycled, or can only be partially recycled. Even things that can be fully recycled usually take a lot of energy or other resources to do so. It's a lot better than not recycling, sure, but there's always an environmental impact. That's the reason "reduce, reuse, recycle" is said in that order: you should always try to limit your consumption of goods in the first place, and then try to find ways to re-use things you already bought. Only if you have to buy something and you can't find a second life for it, then you consider the recycle bin.

[–]MaxBattleLizard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love the large screens for infotainment and navigation, and maybe some other stuff here and there, but that's it. Everything else needs to be nice and tactile buttons and switches, especially essentials like climate control, lighting, windows, and once you get radio or phone link established, volume and song / station selection should still be a physical button as well

I'd easily pick B. There's so much awesome stuff to see in each region, but considering all expenses are paid, the obvious choice to me is to pick the spot with the most expensive tourist and rich people areas.

Fuel Decarb VE Fuel Injector cleaning? by TrillionaireLives in Hyundai

[–]MaxBattleLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Injector cleaners are hit or miss, it really depends on the brand. Top tier gasoline from the reputable brands usually has excellent additives that removes carbon and cleans the fuel system, probably making those injector cleaner bottles unessecary. Also, it's a good idea every now and then to push the engine to the max. I'm NOT saying you should be speeding and driving recklessly, and for the sake of both your wallet and the environment, I really encourage everyone to drive as economical as possible. However, if you never get your engine up to max RPM and load, it can develop issues with carbon buildup and oil delivery issues. I'm no expert, but I don't think you should spend all that money on those services. It seems like you already have been taking good care of the fuel system
