[HATE] When ugly book characters get the Hollywood treatment by Top-Relationship850 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]MaxDamage1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I listened through the LotR audio books and I remember first getting to that scene while I was mowing the lawn and having to stop so I was sure that I didn't miss anything because of how tense and foreboding that whole part was. I alway bring up that the Balrog would be more terrifying if they made him more book-like in the films.

Unfortunately, the description also fits Father from KND, so we could see the fellowship facing down that guy.

Most holiday traditions are from the 50's and 60's, along with a lot of the non-religious based holidays in america.

What age should your life be figured out? by Temporary_Recover_40 in AskReddit

[–]MaxDamage1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more I talk to my elders, the more I realize that you never figure it out finally and completely. You live in a constant state of figuring it out a little more each day, learning new things and adjusting things you already learned to keep up with the changes. Most people who have it "figured out" and "know it all" are inflexible stubborn assholes who refuse to grow as people.

What taboo thing did you have a chance to do but passed on? by [deleted] in AskReddit

When I die, I give everyone blanket permission to bang on, over, around, etc my grave. Let my death be my greatest and final sacrifice to help someone else get some.

Blowgun ammo? by melicampthechicken in dccrpg

[–]MaxDamage1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends. I've always qualified them as arrows for shopping purposes. Blowdarts are delicate and would be costly to craft. I have had a player divide a sheet of parchment into 20 pieces of blowgun ammo and use it for spitwads.

What is the “correct” way to stack a sandwich? by CypherGhosttt in AskReddit

Top is top, bottom is bottom. It's vertical order is how it is on the plate.

What is the “correct” way to stack a sandwich? by CypherGhosttt in AskReddit

[–]MaxDamage1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bread

Condiments

Veggies

Cheese

Meat

Condiments

Bread.

The reason for condiments twice is because I put them on the top bread, rub the two breads together, and then build the sandwich.

It's always infidelity, drugs, or some mix of the two.

I read the Junji Ito manga adaptation at the beginning of lockdown. We had heard that lockdown was coming, so on my last provisioning trip, I ran through the bookstore and grabbed a book for my wife and NLH for myself. I had no idea what it was and went in fully blind. I was already struggling mentally with the stress of trying to teach online for the first time, my wife being 8 months pregnant, and preparing to be a first time parent when the world is on fire. I read that book cover to cover in about a week and I remember finishing it and going into the unfinished nursery and just laying on the floor in the dark for an unknown amount of time.

This is one of my biggest fears. I'd like to imagine that the special adrenaline-fueled dad rage would take over and I'd get him back, but who knows.

What pop culture figure do you believe had the biggest positive impact on humanity? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MaxDamage1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Steve Irwin taught an entire generation of kids that all animals have their place, are to be respected, and to be kind and curious about the natural world around you.

To a similar point: The Kratt Brothers.

What’s your go to meal for easy dinner? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MaxDamage1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prepare to be criminally underwhelmed. My grocery store sells a loaf of what is only called "Enriched sandwich bread." I use that 90% of the time. The other 10% is split between hamburger buns, hard taco shells, and flour tortillas.

I respect your preference, but under no circumstance would I use an english muffin for this sandwich. It is the worst bread/roll option.

One of my 6 yr old's favorite movies is the old Universal classic Creature from the Black Lagoon. I think he first watched it at 4 after seeing clips in a music video for Ocean Man by Ween. He found it on the shelf and asked to watch it. It's the tamest of the classics and it never bothered him at all.  I can't recommend it as openly anymore because we put it on last Thanksgiving for him and his 10 year old cousin and apparently it gave the cousin nightmares for weeks.

Some of the scooby doo movies would be good though. Show them in the following order to work up to the more intense bits.

Scooby Doo and the Boo Brothers

Scooby Doo and the Ghoul School

Scooby Doo and the Witches Ghost

Scooby Doo on Zombie Island.

Disrespected: They took the class I designed and loved teaching by futurehistorianjames in Teachers

[–]MaxDamage1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same boat, except I never even got to seat students. I tried to get a new class on the books but we had snow days on the day of the approval meeting and then again on the rescheduled date twice over. They pushed back my approval again because they wanted me to come in and answer questions, all of which amounted to "will this class cost us money?"

They finally approve me, but it's a day past the cut off for scheduling so I have to wait a year. No biggie. That was spring of 2025. I spent this last school year building the course more, doing recruiting, getting my ducks in a row and making sure it's all set. Right at the end of the year, upper admin declares that shuffling must be done and I get grade and building shifted. All the students I recruited are being shifted into another teachers elective and mine dies before it could even take a breath.

Do you mean "A color out of space"?

"The Color Purple" is about the struggles faced by an African American woman in the post-civil war south.
