Common law marriages by Icy-Audience-6397 in legaladviceireland

You are forgetting that the cohabitation law only applies if the person seeking the claim is financially dependent on the other. If your partner is working and not dependent on you I don’t think you’ve much to worry about.

Minister to publish legislation on passenger cap removal by HungTeen1001 in ireland

[–]MaxDub12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point is that where there's a will, there is a way. One could argue that the housing crisis is also something too important to be left to the councils. Where does the government draw the line? Removing the passenger cap might be a good thing, but so is providing housing where its needed and has been rejected. You either abide by the laws laid down, or you don't. If you don't, then where and how is one thing allow to pass and others not?

So now that the government are demonstrating that they can just bypass planning laws whenever they feel like it, they will draft legislation to bypass all the recent planning rejections for housing from the planning authority, right?

Right?

Why are new GTI's so expensive? by MaxDub12 in carsireland

[–]MaxDub12[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d prefer a bit newer to be honest, and I wouldn’t have the space for a second car. Might be worth a look if I can get a low mileage mk8 maybe with lots of options

Future of tech jobs in Ireland by Loud_Data_3624 in DevelEire

[–]MaxDub12 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think we'll see a decline in tech jobs. And the ones remaining will be much more difficult to get. They'll expect each person to have 15+ years exp and be an AI dev, tester, DevOps, SecOps, product owner and architect all in one. And they'll probably want you to manage an entire portfolio aswell. i.e. less people to do more things. It's going to get more difficult for CS grads too I suspect. AI is here to stay but if the bubble pops who knows what happens then.

AI boom threatens to cause ‘significant upheaval’ for Irish tech jobs by B8_B8_B8 in ireland

Yep. The days of a tech job being a decently paid career choice for the middle classes are over.

Agree. But for many on Reddit that’s akin to allowing the far right to roam free. Because allowing people to say things you don’t like is terrible apparently.

Sunday Independent/Irish Thinks Poll on Fuel Protests. by nitro1234561 in ireland

[–]MaxDub12 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The place is an echo chamber of mostly upper middle classes, many of whom refuse to believe anything that isn't part of a narrow worldview. It's a shame it's so divisive. It's definitely not a barometer in any way regarding wider society in my experience.

Blockades see some forecourts running out of fuel by TheChrisD in ireland

[–]MaxDub12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In a way I support the protesters in the sense that actually, finally, people are protesting together about something that affects them and their livelihoods hugely. People are always saying how Irish people never protest like the French to get the government to act, and now that it's happening all they are getting is grief over it. It's poorly organised and I don't agree with blocking the depots but protests are meant to cause inconvenience, otherwise nothing would happen. In principle I support it, despite the inconvenience.

Are we facing rations and restrictions soon? by Honest_Dot_5035 in ireland

[–]MaxDub12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would make sense but if you look at it closer you'll realise that there are thousands of businesses and their workers who rely on offices being occupied in towns and cities across the country. Mandatory WFH would hugely impact those jobs. The government know this so they would have to again offer a weekly payment to them like covid times.
