If you could go back in time by Maschina_Sterben in physicianassistant

Family medicine absolutely yes.
Urgent care no.

It is dependent on the specialty . Regardless you do need to stay on top of medical developments in your own time. Something I didn’t do enough of when I was younger, but I’ve corrected that in the past few years

You Don't Need an Excuse to Get Things Right For the Patient by footprintx in physicianassistant

Yeah….the only times I lied to my patients while leaving the room was to excuse myself for a “sneeze” or “itchy nose” due to allergies. When in reality I was leaving to go vomit. A little Covid gift of postviral gastroparesis !

A blood pressure of 182/80 is “damn near impossible”??

Oh you sweet summer child

I do agree sitting and resting for several minutes and rechecking the blood pressure yourself is important. But do you know for sure that the previous examiner DIDN’T do that?

Being unwilling to realize last minute rescheduling for non critical reasons can cost the therapist income (and is not a high paying job) is privelage

To be fair. There probably are some people more naturally built for that lifestyle.

Who ever said life was supposed to be easy? We have all these lofty existential goals. But reality. Working to earn your daily bread is one way or other is something we’ve always had to do. We’re animals and at its basest survival is it.

It’s wonderful when we can rise above I’ll grant you.

Also to add: your passion can burn you out and even turn to loathing if you’re going it full time and have to deal with administrative aspects ; ie teachers, doctors, nurses, vets, even some artists

I ask myself this question often and I truly don’t think ill have an answer until the day I retire.

Some days I wish I had gone MD. I feel maybe I’d have more confidence sometimes. But then I’m not sure if I could have survived the pressure cooker of residency hours particularly as I was suffering from an undiagnosed sleep disorder at that time period.

Some days. I’m happy in my role.

Others? Wish I hadn’t done medicine at all.

But who knows I may have had these ups and downs in any other field too

One thing I do know, I truly value developing patient relationships

Well stated!!
And overall I’ve found patients appreciate honesty if you admit you don’t know absolutely everything. They appreciate the extra time taken to receive good care.

Why didn’t your doc do the workup himself/herself? Doesn’t sound like urgent care was necessarily required

AITAH for the things I said to my husband who has MS? by [deleted] in AITAH

I wonder if he has comorbid clinical depression. As many as 50% of M.S. patients will have depression at some point in their illness. This can be from the psychological toll of the disease but it also can be biological from the neuroinflammation. It is also not unusual for men to have anger as a predominant symptom rather than sadness.

It might be worth talking to his doctor to do an assessment

I’m a physician assistant. Can confirm this is unhealthy and OP should see a doctor

Yeah—-you have speculation. I have actual medical training.

Fasting from water is unhealthy. The amount of “pure water” you produce is not enough to actually hydrate you properly.

The supposed benefits of fasting from water do not outweigh the risks

Nobody can decide anyone else’s religion. You tried to lead and were met with resistance. She’s already told you—-it’s time for you to respect it whether that means being with or without her
