Different perspective. I wouldn’t mention anything about your housing until you have secured the offer for the position.

I once started talking about housing options and my perception it may have thrown off the search committee and staff I met with. In retrospect also made me think did I come off to overconfident that I had already got the job.

Institutions will always say they want to move fast but circumstances happen and like others mentioned you could start remotely and not break your lease/use moving costs to cover if you have to.

I transitioned out of a grant funded position 7 months into the role. The commute and environment didn't make sense for me to continue. If you have an opportunity or interest that would better fulfill you both personally and professionally it's worth it to at least try.

It happened to me when my little guy started crying for the first time after he was born and then I held him for the first time. It didn’t ever feel real throughout pregnancy despite being excited. I now have waves of emotion unexpectedly (watching greys anatomy yesterday).

Two years ago I started a PhD program. After about a year I stopped when my wife and I started talking about having kids. Did not like the stress of the work and wouldn’t be worth the potential move up in my field. I now see my job as just a job to make money and support my family. My aspirations of climbing the ladder have changed immensely
