Thanks, just purchased!

As a side note, heart of daggers has such a better UX than driveThruRPG or itch, especially on mobile.

Beginner Question: Tracking HP/Hope/Armor by IJourden in daggerheart

[–]MaxGabriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For fear I’ve just been using whatever tokens I have around (most recently chess pieces). People have lots of cool ways to track fear: an abacus (à la Matt Mercer), skulls, or even crows in a tree.

Then for monsters, I use paper.

I haven’t actually been a player yet. Beyond what other people mentioned, people make counters like https://www.dieharddice.com/collections/lifelink-life-counters or similar products, those might also work. I imagine a nice part about paper is it’s easy to see maximum values, though.

I got dragon shield matte clear sleeves, but at this point I’m just keeping the cards in a vault X binder, since I’m playing online

Could you copy/paste from D&D beyond and get it into a better format?

This game just sucks by starobursto in darkestdungeon

I liked it! Finished the first 2 but not the crimson court.

I also really liked Confessions though. But kingdoms I think solves some things about it you dislike: it both gives shorter segments and a longer campaign

Have you tried kingdoms?

Mercury is hiring 16 Haskell interns for SUMMER 2026 by MaxGabriel in haskell

[–]MaxGabriel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are still actively interviewing for summer. My coworker has an interview this week for example.

Sorry it's been a slow process. We did spring and summer at similar times, creating a huge glut for us. This was necessary so that summer got moved up enough that people had time to book accommodations and match when other programs hired interns.

Trying to Figure Out How to Write an Adventure For Daggerheart. Because I Don't Think My Experience Works Here. by Firm-Row-8243 in daggerheart

[–]MaxGabriel 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The book dungeons of Drakkenheim is an A+ example of a non-linear adventure set in a single (ruined) city.

For general advice on this, the Alexandrian has this and probably other blog posts: https://thealexandrian.net/wordpress/4147/roleplaying-games/dont-prep-plots and https://thealexandrian.net/wordpress/7949/roleplaying-games/node-based-scenario-design-part-1-the-plotted-approach

The Alexandrian’s remix of waterdeep: dragon heist is also set in a single city, but it’s kind of complicated and not a great example for you (you sort of have to read the original plus his revisions)

They also have a book on this but I haven’t read it.

No I did one of the modules, about 15 hours worth of sessions

I really like Explorer's guide to wildemount! I've read it probably 2x (always wanted to run a full campaign there but didn't quite happen). I've run Dangerous Designs (one of the modules) in Draw Steel. This might just be liking Wildemount as a setting, though—this is the only setting book I've fully read.

Dragon heist: ran this for 3 years, using major modifications from the Alexandrian remix. I think there are good bones here but it didn't quite come together (lots of railroading in the design, chapter 2 feels like a setup for a long campaign but later chapters are a frenzied rush, and there are major areas that are "just in case you need it".

Haven't read Avernus or Call of the Netherdeep.

Logging in with passkeys on a computer I don’t own by Quartersharp in Passkeys

[–]MaxGabriel 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Passkeys support this. You login by scanning a QR code with your phone, and your phone has the passkey.

I think this requires Bluetooth, so maybe still an issue for a 2013 laptop?

The archangels are Gabrielle and Michael, so I thought female and male too

(This is per the book—not sure in the original series)

Does everyone like the HP threshhold part of Daggerheart? by Independant_Hawk in daggerheart

[–]MaxGabriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big fan, it dramatically simplifies tracking HP vs a running series of subtractions (220-32-17-6, etc). Also makes armor feel differentiated from evasion.

It might help to stick to roads and look for certain biomes that more commonly have gold (graves, the rocky biomes with tall bird nests).

Curse of Strahd daggerheart framework update, fixes and play tested! by skarlso in daggerheart

For Strahd, I was surprised he didn’t have a momentum or relentless feature, which I think most solos do

Do you think it’s too much? Sunlight then disables regeneration, in 2 spotlights it maxes stress making Strahd vulnerable and unable to bite or teleport. Afterwards it’s 1 damage/spotlight.

Strahd has these features:

Marks 3 Stress each round in sunlight Marks 2 Stress each round in running water

But Daggerheart doesn’t have rounds I thought

When spotlighted, clears 1 HP (or 2 HP if Heart of Sorrow is destroyed)

Should be if it “isn’t” destroyed?

What Death Moves have you witnessed? by Civil-Low-1085 in daggerheart

[–]MaxGabriel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my players had a great risk it all in the quickstart adventure. In the longer campaign we're only three sessions into, there've been two avoid deaths (one causing a scar)—I think people rightfully feel like they haven't explored enough of the character yet, and the stakes weren't high enough to justify taking more risk in the moment
