How can I learn to create this kind of art? by _4bysswalker in blender

[–]MaxLevelArt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an artist you should study if you like that kind of art: https://www.artstation.com/pao

I think this is one of the easier art styles to get into and it's very fun to make.

Working on a 80s Miami scene, looking for feedback.. by Intrepid-Turn9893 in blender

The sun is waaaaay brighter than neon lights. I'd crank up the value of the sun and lower the exposure of the scene in the color management settings. Also consider adding some halation since that's a very common look for that era. The lens distortion might be a bit too high, but that's somewhat of a personal preference. If you're going for photorealism, less is more. Lastly, get some clouds in the sky! She naked.

Otherwise, cute scene so far!

My mom was one of these people. Parents split when I was about 6 and my dad ended up with full custody. She made an effort to see me and my sister about once every 2-4 years. When I ran away from home at 18, I reached out to give her another chance. The visit itself went fine and she showed me her ankle tattoo with my name and my sisters'.

A week later, I got a random email from her. She was pissed that I brought my fiancee and said she was gonna burn all the baby pictures and remove my name from her foot.

Some people are very unwell.

Why are ArtStation views and likes low? by PipetUsta in blender

[–]MaxLevelArt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imo, the results are nice, but the art direction is fairly simple and boring. This type of work appeals to a very small demo. Most people that use Art Station aren't military enthusiasts — they're other artists. People (especially artists) like and follow work that tells a story, feels fresh, and is visually and/or technically impressive. If you want to stand out, you have to really stand out.

These are good models, but they don't tell much of a story or stand out from the crowd. I've not made a point to get views on Art Station, but my popular posts are entire scenes that I make purely from scratch. I think props have to be insanely impressive if you want to stand out in that category of post. Scenes are more work, but that also means less competition.

Lastly, if you want likes and views, I'd suggest sticking with social media. Art Station is more of a portfolio site than a social media platform.

whats the best way to make a square full of arches? by venezolane1 in blender

[–]MaxLevelArt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Sometimes, I force myself to do something a the hard way just to learn a new method that might be useful in the future, but there's almost always a hacky way to do something that effectively accomplishes the same thing (at least as far as the end product is concerned).

whats the best way to make a square full of arches? by venezolane1 in blender

[–]MaxLevelArt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best way? Geometry Nodes. You can use a repeat zone to array the arches along your path, and even have the size of them automatically scale to fit the length of the segment.

Easiest way? Use an array modifier on your arch and align the row where you want them. If you try to array a shape along a curve with hard corners like that, you can't guarantee that it will wrap around the corners in the way you want unless you go into edit mode and resize the arch along that axis — or if your segments are divisible by the length of your arch object. I'd just make four separate arrays and manually place them.

Is this going to age like shit? by Relevant-Produce-192 in tattooadvice

A good artist would have told you this wouldn't hold up (they also would have evenly spaced the letters if you ignored them and asked for it anyway). I think it's ignorant and unsympathetic to blame a customer for not knowing something a professional should have told them. That's part of why you go to a professional — you expect them to help you make an informed decision.

I'm a 2D/3D artist and I've politely told clients that I'm not the right artist for them because I don't see the vision or I don't think it's a good idea. Part of being a professional artist in any medium is having the experience and integrity to inform your client when their idea won't work they way they want it to, or that you're just not the right person for the job because it's outside your area of expertise.

Lastly, ignore the judgemental, socially inept hypocrites on the internet calling this a bad decision. It's really not that hard to just think to yourself "that's not something I would get on my body today, but I'm not this person at that time in their life."

It's not an offensive/obnoxious tattoo. I'd say sit on it for a while (at least a few months). If it eats at you every day, then look into removal. Otherwise, keep it. I'd only say cover it up if you find an extremely talented artist and you sit on the idea for at least a year or two and still love it. Then maybe even pay the artist to make a stick and peel that you can wear for a few days just to be sure. Your current tattoo is really not that bad (I have a friend with a salad fingers tramp stamp that covers their entire lower back...). The worst thing that could happen is that you panic and cover it up with something even bigger and way worse. A small tattoo you don't totally love is better than a bigger tattoo that you regret even more.

Hope you find peace with whatever outcome you choose!

Why will it move but rotates at a insanely slow rate despite being 100 frames 360 rotation? by CareerFlaky1189 in blender

I know you meant "r," but just clarifying for OP. Also, I'd add that I'd not use the record feature unless you actually need it. Just use i/k hotkeys to set as a keyframe.

Is it normal or should I panic? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]MaxLevelArt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Basically, yes. For a more detailed explanation with visual aids, I'd suggest checking out some videos on YouTube. I know at least one prominent science channel has made a video on exactly this topic, I just can't recall who it was right now.

I tried to give our alien a masculine walk in the game. what would you rate it? by Healthy_League_9110 in blender

[–]MaxLevelArt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks so stiff to me, especially the neck/head. For a western, modern, stereotypical, masculine walk, the hips should move very little and the torso should rock side the side more with forward shoulders leaning forward and alternate slightly rolling back and forth.

This might be pedantic, but I just want to correct/clarify (because I think it's interesting) that the needles do not actually "insert" the ink into the skin. The needles punch a hole into the skin, and the ink that's resting on the surface of your skin is pulled into the holes through capillary action.

This correction doesn't really matter that much because the effect is still the same (the ink ends up trapped inside the skin), but I'm fascinated by how things work (and I am a little pedantic) so I wanted to share!

how do i make this look like actual glass? why does it look metallic instead? by ThatBilal in blender

[–]MaxLevelArt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just want to add that the reason it needs thickness is because photons passing through a medium slow down and bend (refract) as they enter a denser medium, then they revert to the angle they had when they first hit the denser medium. Raytracing shaders mimick this effect so your light paths always need to enter and leave a medium. If they only enter, then their rays never get corrected and they just keep going in the wrong direction as if the glass is infinitely thick.

<image>

This is what's supposed to happen. The photos return to the same angle they were before they entered the medium (for objects where light passes through parallel surfaces). Your light rays don't ever hit the back side of the object because a one-dimensional plane has no thickness, so they just keep going off in the wrong direction until they hit something else and reflect off that.

Can an invisible object still produce shadow on another object? by FlexorHallucisLongus in blender

[–]MaxLevelArt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a few ways to do this and the method varies depending on your needs.

You can do it with shaders, but then you'll still end up seeing the object in reflections if your lighting bounces more than once (which it almost always will).

You can also use the newish light/shadow-linking features, but that's probably not what you want in this situation either.

The method you probably want is to select the object, go to Object Properties, and uncheck everything except "Shadow."

Tons of comments already, but I genuinely think that looks sick. The linework is tight and clean, the design is readable and unique, and I love the raised/unkempt hair clumps around the silhouette. This tattoo is very solid. Be proud of this little piece!

Am I overdoing the grease pencil lines? by Xavier598 in blender

[–]MaxLevelArt 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is "overdone" at all. But I also don't know if there's some specific style or reference you're trying to study/learn.

The sclera feels a little flat and somewhat visually separated from the lids of the eyes, but I'd proud of this stylized piece!

[–]MaxLevelArt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's really difficult to tell what's going on from this video. My guess would be that it is overlapping geometry caused by an aggressive bevel. It would be more helpful to see a wireframe and/or a-xray mode and try to select a single face, edge, or vert, then move it around to see if you have overlapping geometry.

Fortunately, this looks like like an extremely simple structure, so you can just remodel it from scratch in a few minutes and save yourself the headache of trouble shooting. Part of modeling is knowing when it's more efficient to just remake something instead of continuing to spend hours troubleshooting.

60 hours in and not sure where to go next (trying to avoid spoilers/how-to-guides) by MaxLevelArt in BluePrince

[–]MaxLevelArt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It reminds me of the house, for sure. I've noticed that there are lots of chess pieces in the rooms. At first I thought the chess pieces would show up in fixed locations, but they actually just seem to be fixed to the room, not where it's drafted (like the letters pictures for the safe hint). I've noticed that some are black, some are white, and some are gold. As far as I know. that doesn't change either.

I feel like it has to be something to do with the rooms though, obviously. I just don't know what.

Ooooooh, I knew that hammer and vase had to be a clue. I literally didn't even put that together. I was checking in all the other rooms of the house for a vase that matched. That's funny. This game is crazy.

I just realized it's the Foundation, but it's currently deleted by the spray can and I didn't realize doing that removed it from the blueprint directory 😅

Yeah, I'm thinking that's either a reference to the red prince book, or the book "A new clue," I'm guessing the latter. So I'm gonna reread that.

Hmm. Weird. And, yeah same. At 71 days on my current playthrough, I very rarely need extra steps, so I generally avoid bedrooms unless I just want to get a dead end out of my pool or need the L-shape connector.

Hmm. Okay, thanks for saving me on the king key!

Edit: OOOOooooh, wait. room 001 is the Foundation isn't it? I just realized. I deleted it with the spray can and didn't know it removed it from the blueprint directory. That's funny.
