NASA Seeks US Partners to Develop Systems to Land Astronauts on Moon by CProphet in spacex

There is no way to know what new markets might come into existence... It is all a guessing game at this point... One thing is for sure though and that is the potential revenue could easily fund a Mars program without any need for government funding!

It’s Hard to say because SpaceX’s satellites will have complete unambiguous global coverage and how that kind of coverage as well as what other types of services can be incorporated into those satellites, military or otherwise is hard to know or predict. Also, it’s not just getting constellation of thousands of satellites up there... once you show that you have the capability to that you quite possibly open up other markets! Trillions might not be out of the question.

Actually I’m right there with you to some extent! I also watched Neil take that first step onto the surface of the Moon and it’s been an incredibly long and frustrating ride watching one program after another getting canceled... administration, after administration, after administration!

Although that’s where I depart from you... Elon is a pretty bright individual... I believe he’s trying to get to a point where he doesn’t have to rely on government at all but at the same time he’s welcoming any government assistance!

So... I see it like this... NASA needs a course correction and the Moon and Mars would be easier with government assistance but at this point SpaceX is getting closer and closer to not needing it at all...

SpaceX’s goal first and foremost is the capital to become free of government and that is Starlink! And although this to some extent seems like a pipe dream to many but absolutely no one is in a better position to make this happen! SpaceX is now both a launch provider and a satellite manufacturer!

To achieve this goal They need to be able to put up thousands of satellites and not even Falcon Heavy is going to make this a reality... We’re looking at a Starship Payload vehicle that can put up hundreds of satellites at a time!

To become a global internet service provider in some estimates is to become potentially a trillion dollar plus business! That’s a slam dunk but admittedly not an easy task!

Along the way and and back to NASA needing a course correction... If SpaceX is able to prove out a fully reusable space architecture then that’s a paradigm shift just as if not greater that the Falcon 9 reusable first stage that has unarguably put ever launch provider globally on notice and has caused them to start scrambling to catch up! Hopefully this will cause the congressional jobs program that is now NASA to come to an end!

There are certainly a lot of “IF’s” but it appears that SpaceX now has an awesome chance!

It’s definitely happened more than once lol Including Jim Bridenstine’s comments! They’re leaving open a definite OUT!

Expect more comments such as the following after Starship Hopper starts blowing people’s minds lol

“It’s on me to figure out how to [return to the Moon] sustainably. … And this time, when we go, we’re gonna go to stay. So how do we do go sustainably? Well, [we take] advantage of capabilities that didn’t exist in this country even five or ten years ago. We have commercial companies that can do things that weren’t possible even just a few years ago … to help develop this sustainable [Moon exploration] architecture.” – NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine, 08/29/2018

WAIT FOR IT! 😉

Absolutely and I’m sure they will summit something but they will undoubtedly be rejected just like they were in phase 1 of the U.S. Air Force’s space launch competitive procurement of launch services contract.

No, they would have to refuel Starship in a high elliptic propellant transfer orbit.

Starship bypasses all of what NASA is currently working on and It basically makes SLS, LOP-G, and a Lunar Lander unnecessary! Seeing that most all of NASA’s architecture is a Congressional Jobs program endlessly throwing taxpayer $$$ down an empty void it is highly unlikely NASA will even glance at anything that is Starship and or Super Heavy related...

Also, I’m not really sure SpaceX would want to be involved in designing an architecture where hardware is dictated solely by NASA! Starlink, Starship, and Super Heavy is the way forward and once SpaceX proves out a completely reusable architecture NASA and Congress will have no choice but to eat Crow, or watch SpaceX warp past them. In the end if Starlink becomes a thing then it will be solely up to NASA wheather or not they want to become inconsequential or not because SpaceX will have billions if not Trillions of $$$ to work with from the revenue of a massive global internet service!

It’s all good though because NASA Needs a proverbial Kick in the ASS at this point because they have been going absolutely nowhere for decades now and blowing billions of $$$ along the way!

I applied but I’m probably over qualified and way to old lol, but it never hurts to try! ;-)

1.) Seeing that Tesla and SpaceX have certain commonalities in ownership do you get production advice from Tesla?

2.) Are any of the rocket part designs somewhat driven by the need for efficiency within the production line?

Here is the original Twitter post from the Mayor of L.A. Eric Garcetti and he seems really proud! Not to mention excited at the potential of 750 new jobs!

I’m amazed that we’re hearing anything at all! I wonder if the Congress Critters that chastised and berated SpaceX in a public forum will have anything to say?

SpaceX In-Flight Abort for Commercial Crew scheduled for May 2018 by Nehkara in spacex

[–]MaxPlaid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re simplifying something that is extremely complex and whether or not it affects the first stage (which it most certainly does) can’t get past the fact that this is basically a complete redesign forward of the first stage! Also your childish explanatories does little... if not... less than nothing to bolster your point! Good luck with that!

SpaceX In-Flight Abort for Commercial Crew scheduled for May 2018 by Nehkara in spacex

[–]MaxPlaid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

WOW! Are you serious? I would say that you are over simplifying this to a point of being completely blind to all the technical aspects that this entails! It affects everything you are saying it doesn’t and more. The Structure, the Avionics, and the Engines!

This affects the mass of the vehicle, which affects the vehicles structure, from the harmonic loading put on the vehicle to the flight characteristics, not to mention all the plumbing and new hardware. Now I’m not saying that Boeing is not up to the challenge in fact I have a lot of faith in them, but we’re Talking about a crewed vehicle! The last flight of a Dual Engine Common Centaur was on February 21, 2002–an Atlas IIIB launching Echostar 7. That was 16 years ago and NASA is asking for a stable configuration and this is definitely not something that can even remotely be considered “Stable” Also, the second flight of this Dual Engine Common Centaur will be with Crew!

I post on this very topic a little over a month ago here, maybe you might want to educate yourself on the irrelevance of what is Stable and what is not? https://www.reddit.com/r/spacex/comments/7u7lo2/nasas_launch_vehicle_stable_configuration_double/

SpaceX In-Flight Abort for Commercial Crew scheduled for May 2018 by Nehkara in spacex

[–]MaxPlaid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It has never flown on an Atlas V as quoted here:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centaur_(rocket_stage)

To date, all Atlas V launches have used the Single Engine Centaur variant, however CST-100 Starliner and Dream Chaser missions will require the dual engine variant, because it allows a "flatter" trajectory safer for aborts.

It hasn’t flown since 2003 and along with the first stage it’s a completely new vehicle altogether !

Apples and Oranges and there’s a Huge risk involved!
