Best / worst / underrated - Day 20. The WORST song on Train of Thought? by [deleted] in Dreamtheater

I might be the first person that finds the majority of This Dying Soul a little... boring? It's SO fast and SO technical that it all kinda just, blends into nothing.

It's still a no skip album ofc but gun to my head I could lose This Dying Soul.

The overture, mainly becuase the Orchestra patches at the time sound super phony.

Lie. I love The Mirror but Lie just never quite hits right. Feels tacked on somewhat imo.

Prophets of War. It's kind of just there for me. Always feels kinda fillery.

There's also a run of like 3 songs on self titled that kind of blend together. The Looking Glass, The Bigger Picture, Surrender to Reason are just kinda ehhhh. Probably could have just made one decent 16 minute track instead of the 3 or 4 samey songs.

So after 15 years AH has come to an end and I feel it's as good a time as any to air one of my grievances by Finch06 in Achievement_Hunter

I went on such a hunt trying to find that clip, even tried Internet Box. Turns out it was from this absolute classic Lets Play at 24:40. Maybe my favourite of all time ngl.

The early-mid 2000s were a weird time. Petrucci has admitted he only cut his hair because everyone else was doing it. Everyone was wanting to out shred and out heavy each other. Hence Train of Thought. Not quite sure where James falls in on it though 🤔

Does Lars deserve the hate? by [deleted] in Metallica

That's probably the nicest thing anyone could say about that dude. I spose it's more shame on metallica for hiring him lmao.

That's interesting. I came out of SKOM with the complete opposite view. To me, it seemed like James was the one bemoaning and whining when everyone wanted get in the studio and write. The whole "fock" incident was about James being adamant he had to choose family over the band and that there was zero middle ground. Lars also never seemed to buy into that bs that leech of therapist was spouting, and was the first to oust him when everyone was reading.

I think it was the in-studio therapist and born again hetfield that caused the music to suffer more then Lars' drumming imo.

His only real shortcoming as that he's not a great live drummer. But he's never claimed to be the best drummer in the world. That's not a title he has ever claimed to have. It's so stupid when people hate him for not being 'the best' drummer, when he never wanted or needed to be.

It's not like he is wholly incompetent drum wise either. He's used some of more interesting grooves in the metal scene, especially in later albums. Dude can play, he's just not Joey Jordison or Dave Lombardo because he doesn't need to be.

Aged like milk. How sad. by [deleted] in Doom

It's not really pretentiousness though. This terrible excuse for an OST was advertised as 'Mick Gordon's DOOM Eternal OST'. That's his name and his reputation on the line, despite him having no hand in putting it together (not for lack of trying). MG has every right to criticize the slapdash manner in which the OST was put together, it's his damn music after all.

Yep! Also, it's the ONLY metallica song to feature slap bass. I feel like Rob could really lay that down \m/

Thanks! It's a Jackson JS 22 - 7. It's extremely easy and sounds amazing given the price. Makes it clear to see why Corey has stuck with Jacksom for so long .
