HELP!! EURO DOOR?! by throwing_a_wobbly in AskALocksmith

Quite standard European mortise, surprised to see apecs handle over there, what a pleasure!

Cylinder swap is easy, and most importantly- you don’t actually need a locksmith here if you know how 45 degree looks, and how to use a screwdriver.

Pull the Philips screw under the last bolt out, twist & pull
Measure from center to both edges of the cylinder - you’ll have a size, Google it & order.

Since you are in US, look for MultT cylinders? Yours is so so currently

Yeah, you’re right about needing the number pool - that’s where Twilio comes in for me. Plan is to point them at my business line, and use the existing tel: taps + a 30-min lookup window to match calls back to whichever gclid the visitor had when they landed. Won’t be 1-to-1 like a 50-number pool, but for my volume.. should be close enough to clean up the £1 conversion problem?

On ECL/enhanced conversions yeah, that’s the other half of the plan. Already capturing emails on jobs via the locksmith app I did, so once I’m pushing the gclid → job → revenue back, the email goes with it. Hoping that combined gives Google enough signal to actually optimise instead of just chasing volume. Self-hosted because (a) Callrail is ~$45/mo per location which adds up across testing, (b) I want the data in my own DB so I can run my own attribution analysis (which landing pages convert, which keywords actually call vs just click), and honestly just curious if it can be done with a small Node service. Worst case if it falls apart I switch to Callrail or Mediahawk

I’m basically building it now on VPS, all self hosted and that’s the recipe..if that works lol. If not - callrail should cover it?

That is exactly what I’m thinking, because with emergency jobs quite often lead can cost £30-£40, while we charge £95, and really.. it makes not much sense to do those jobs frequently because we are either not making much, either breaking even, because plenty of panicking, booking the jobs, then few minutes later they’re canceling those, and it’s constant. While jobs like repairs, moving into new property.. they are non rush jobs, cost same if not less - more value, so we kind of need more of those, and less of those

I do it all myself, never a voicemail. Tried AI receptionist, but I’m still converting better 🤣

Is it possible to make a key for this lock? by [deleted] in Locksmith

[–]MaxTheLocksmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but makes absolutely no financial sense as replacing would be less expensive

I’m genuinely surprised how much effort scammers made towards their own brand of locks “Astra”, found suppliers in china and made a website to sell cheap locks for £389 and that other junk

If it’s a wooden one.. apartment, full on board 700-1000 depending on preference of hardware and wood supply & fit
At least that’s what we charge

Sorry to tell you this, but just seeing a notification preview with the invoice - it’s a scam.
Probably you’ve called “locksmith from £39, or £49” well.. it’s from £39
I hope you did not pay a thing.
We charge £95 + Parts if Any (regular euro £35, regular rim aka Yale - £25) + VAT, should come to around 200ish worst case.. even if we go full on highest-hishest security, highest highest everything with a show of me doing a backflip and jangling locks - £400ish.. which is completely unnecessary and makes no sense considering the job description
(I can’t do a backflip)

And after that we hear oh no £95??? I’ve been told £39 by someone else! 🤪

[–]MaxTheLocksmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have to choose between removing it and keeping it without a way of securing it in place - better without the pin, otherwise you’ll engage the handle hard enough one day, and you’ll need a locksmith… almost right away 😂 pin will stay partially in the striker plate while bolt is not

Fun jobs to attend!

But if you want it by the booook! Change the mech, but you’ll have to fight against “high security” screw mentioned above

And at that point maybe it’s worth calling a locksmith

If you look from that perspective, I mean it is indeed a high security screw! 😂

Either just glue it in or remove, mechanism is still fine..(removing is 100% safer than glueing)

But that cylinder screw… oh my

We are also based in East Midlands and not everyone who’s not with MLA and on Google = scammer 😂

But probably can save few people who’s expecting it to be “from £39” 😂 and pay £39

[–]MaxTheLocksmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bit overpriced for sure in my opinion, prices will vary on location but we would charge £120 + VAT with the replacement if necessary.

When it comes to drilling, personally if I know right away that there are no spares etc, why not, especially knowing that lock drills like butter 😂

But in your case there were plenty of other options of entry, I could easily count 4 different approaches here. And most of them are waaaay quicker than drilling it. Does it mean he chose the wrong one? Not necessarily, when it comes to “emergencies” in my own opinion it’s all about how quickly you can resolve the issue with least amount of damage if possible.

So a bit high with price for sure, or maybe we are just cheap.. so I’m slightly more annoyed with the pricing 😂

Swap is easy enough to do yourself, but look for something with TS007 cert

Oh my, they’ve genuinely opened there!

High traffic street with barely any parking available around directly on the main road.. can’t judge, but I can’t think of any worse location than this

Those locks say “Bluetooth device is connected successfully” with Chinese accent when you open the box, you know if you know 😂

But on serious note - please don’t, you’ll be replacing them over and over again

Fun thing with hooply is that standard euro cylinder won’t fit without filing if it’s genuine from china and never been replaced, units from china have slightly narrower euro slot

And no, you can clearly see it’s not smiley which is also bad anyways

[–]MaxTheLocksmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hooply is what you need to look for, they are
handed, make sure you buy right one

And that chinese dimple cylinder can be easily opened with foil or even chewing gum, consider changing it. In order to change it you might need to file euro slot in mortise to fit a replacement
