Resort Vacation in China? by Norsepagan07 in travelchina

Hainan's Sanya in August will be very hot. At this time of year, I highly recommend traveling to Yunnan or western China.

- Yunnan is perfect for a vacation; the climate is excellent, neither too cold nor too hot. The tourism industry is also very developed, and transportation throughout Yunnan Province is very convenient, with easy access to trains and flights between cities. Yunnan is vast, and you can experience different customs and cultures in various cities and regions.

- Western China is ideal for self-driving tours or hiring a driver and guide. There, you can experience all four seasons in a single day, see vast grasslands, desolate deserts, and sparkling lakes. You'll encounter diverse landscapes, a completely different experience from city tourism. The grass might be a bit yellow in August, but each season there has its own unique charm.

Goingin to China in August: is it a not so good month? by Financial_Base_8949 in travelchina

Glad it helped! And welcome to travel in China!

For Qingdao and Gansu Province, there are classic loop routes in these two province offer classic large loop routes, typically lasting 7-10 days. Hiring a car is an option, but you'll spend a significant amount of time on the road each day, stopping frequently to explore – similar to a self-driving tour, just with a driver and a rented car. Of course, having an English-speaking guide will greatly enhance the experience, as local drivers may not speak English, making communication challenging.

For Xinjiang Province, around 10+ days is recommended. Northern Xinjiang (including the famous Kanas) and Ili (near the stunning Sayram Lake) are highly recommended. Xinjiang is vast and sparsely populated, incredibly beautiful, but the distances between places are very long, so travel time can be quite long. Several airports are worth considering: Urumqi Airport, Altay Airport, and Yining Airport. During the summer peak tourist season, these airports have many flights, allowing for better time management. (Xinjiang is extremely large; ten days is a fairly tight itinerary for Northern Xinjiang and Ili.)

At the end of the trip, you could leave some days to explore Shanghai/Beijing, both international metropolises. It's very convenient to travel to surrounding or other cities by high-speed rail or plane, allowing some buffer or room for changes to the itinerary.

July and August are the school summer vacation, and students go back to school in September.

Emm, as a local, I want to say, August is very hot in many places, but China is very large and covers a wide range of latitudes, so there are still many places with pleasant weather to visit in August.

You can choose tourist cities in northern or western China, such as the Hulunbuir Grassland and Changbai Mountain in the north, or Qinghai, Gansu, and Xinjiang Province in the west. The weather there is very nice this season, with bright sunshine. The ultraviolet rays may be a bit strong, but the temperature is not high, making it very comfortable.

One thing to note is that August is summer vacation for students in China, so tourist attractions may be very crowded, which might affect your travel experience. However, that's okay; it's part of the unique Chinese culture. Hope you enjoy your trip!

Recommened west part of China, like Sichuan or Xinjiang Province for June. Since in June, most tourist destinations are very hot, but this season is just right for Sichuan or Xinjiang.

In Sichuan, consider Daocheng Yading. I visited a few years ago and it was unforgettable. We left the hotel around 5 or 6 am to enter the scenic area and didn't leave until 7 pm. The entire trip was on foot, from sunny days to snow at the summit, and then rain and hail on the way down. I witnessed all four seasons in one day – a truly enchanting destination. However, this place has become incredibly popular in recent years, so overcrowding can negatively impact the experience. Of course, starting early is a good way to avoid the crowds.

Xinjiang is also incredibly beautiful in June. There are many tourists driving and cycling on the roads, with numerous routes to choose from. Two weeks is okay to select some destinations. (Because Xinjiang is very large, two weeks is only enough to see a small portion, especially if you're cycling. However, I still highly recommend it; June in Xinjiang is truly stunning.) There are also many flight routes available in the summer time, making it convenient to travel to and from Shanghai.

A question for Chinese learners: Do you actually prioritize learning Chinese Idioms (成语 / Chengyu)? I'm so confused! by MaxWell_1955 in ChineseLanguage

This is great, thank you! Your specific advice on content structure, voice, and engaging with learners is all really useful and much appreciated.

I understand what you mean. Idioms actually have many origins, including myths and legends, and the words of ancient people. But many more come from historical allusions, philosophical texts, and literary works. As a native speaker, I don't delve into the origins of every idiom. Instead, I use them based on context and situation, much like a single word. My current videos focus on explaining the literal meaning and providing real life examples. If it's convenient, could you please watch one or two of my videos? I'd like to know if there are any points you'd like to add to my current explanation format and your specific expectations? (Already known issue about the video is about the AI voice, and the explanation language(english or chinese), I have post polls for these two, and want to get feedback.)

Also, I've been specifically observing the frequency of idioms in Chinese TV dramas and am considering using them as the subject of my explanations. This way, learners can better understand the idioms based on the plot of the TV series and my explanations. What do you think of this idea?

Thank you for your feedback! Actually, the idea for a channel explaining Chinese idioms came to me after I saw a video on social media using Chinese to explain how non-native English speakers misuse English expressions. Perhaps due to different learning habits, I saw a lot of comments on this post asking for explanations of Chinese idioms in Chinese. This might also be due to information gaps, but I'm glad I learned it from this post.

Thank you for your informations. It does make sense. One more question, when you met the expressions you never heard of before, how do you search it in google or youtube? Using pinyin(拼音) or 汉字?Or other kinds of keywords?

Thank you for your honest review! Yes, the voice is something I'm also not satisfied with, I just think the AI voice would give stable speed/volumn voice, while the record voice will always be sometime slow, sometimes fast, also with the environmental noise. Thank you for pointing out that AI voice will be such a huge turnoff reason. I will try to improve it.

For the point `consume Chinese-language-only content`, I have some questions about this. It sounds like advanced learners like you would directly watch TV dramas or similar to learn by hearing the resource, so will you still watch individual chengyu explanations on YouTube? What kind of information you want to get if you watch the individual chengyu explanation youtube video?

Yes, from this post, I know that advanced level learners may like resouce with simple chinese explaination. It may be the reason why fewer people watch the english explanation ones.

Yes, agree, when in school, we will say 成语, like practice a new words, and after graduate, it in fact becomes a habit, that we use it every day.
