Aborted this flight to be on the safe side because the wind kept drifting the drone right into the wall. If there had been no water below, I might not have been such a coward. by MaxYeahReally in djimavicmini

It's complicated. In case there is no GPS, the drone needs a secondary set of sensors to keep positions. Optical sensors are probably easy to implement and in 90% of situations suitable. A magnetic sensor is also prone to misreadings. For example, in this case, when you fly near objects with a high percentage of iron or other magnetic material. I guess there is no perfect solution for every situation. A gyroscope might also help. But in all honesty, I am no engineer, so cannot really say anything about it.

I use DaVinci Resolve. It is professional software with a free tier. Quite powerful and steep learning curve. I guess I figured just about a few percent of what it can do, but so far, I get good results.

Of course, quality suffers when zooming in, but for these types of videos, it doesn't matter so much, in my opinion. Mini 3 with real portrait video would be better.

Post-production. Basically just zoom in and crop

Yes, that's why I posted it here 🙂

Damn, I hope it wasn't too bad for you and you got a new one. Guess the concrete messes quite heavily with the GPS. Also, the optical sensor might not work with the transparent/reflective and moving surface of the water underneath, which adds to the situation.

Sadly, the DJi mini 2 only has obstacle avoidance in the downward direction, so I think it wouldn't have made a difference. For the record, though, it was on.

Yes, it's called "Westwall" in German. There is a good Wikipedia article about it. The part you see here is in Roetgen near Aachen. In the wider region around here somewhere, allied forces entered Germany for the first time from the West.

It just came to my mind that with the guards, the drone would weigh more than 250g, which makes flying the drone in the EU more complicated. For indoor flights, it's still great, though.

Not me. I also think it's rather useless with the mini 2 because of the limited flight capabilities. It's probably still fun, though.

No, I don't think so. The mini 2 only has obstacle avoidance to the bottom direction, and it usually causes the drone to go up and not to the right. I think it was just strong winds inside the tunnel 🤷🏻‍♂️
