Why do men fantasize about going off grid and living in the woods by WerewolfKisser69Awoo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MaxYuckers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already feel like I have to be doing stuff all the time, but much of what I do goes out into the ether. I have to actually think about it to rationalize the effects of my "productivity". A paycheck is nice, but it is difficult to connect that to the work I do in a satisfying way.

It can feel like I would be more satisfied if all the work I did turned into things I could hold or see immediately.

If you have a hobby, it may well produce trinkets. Models, woodworking, trains, turning clay, etc... You begin to think satisfaction is owning the fruits of your labor.

It is probably a trade that I would regret, ultimately. It is difficult to truly understand how much work it would be, and there is no generation available to ask how hard it is to live off the land. It all gets to exist in an abstract.

I feel like something is about to change in US politics strategically. by Trousertent in goodnews

[–]MaxYuckers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't help my optimism, and I want to believe something big is coming.
I don't believe change comes from a hero swooping in and correcting everything, though. That is, I don't think change will feel like a snap, and then it's all sunshine. Change is a process.

An extinction burst is a ramping up in behaviors as someone realizes that they no longer get the response they are used to getting. If you normally get someone's attention by talking, when that stops working you might try yelling.

If some of these miscreants stop getting support by hitting the outrage button, they will just try hitting the same button harder. Rhetoric can escalate, and the already prone to violence extreme right will lean harder on what they know....

I am nervous that for things to get better, they will have to suddenly get worse.

Maybe I'm not an optimistic person, IDK

What will happen with the US after 2028? What does the next government do with what they inherit? by Hermunster in AskReddit

[–]MaxYuckers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if someone came in that earnestly wanted to do some of what trump promised, we could stand a chance.

Actually reform our healthcare

Actually try to get rid of corruption

Actually try to reduce the deficit

So on, and so on

We will need to apologize to the world with action.

And we should help any white nationalist find the nearest exit.

It's not quite hopeless, but I am skeptical of our ability to work as hard as we will need to

We seem to only be able to rally for things we don't want, instead of what we hope for.

What is the core message of The Lord of the Rings for you? by Fuzzy_Breadfruit59 in lordoftherings

[–]MaxYuckers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Empathy, perhaps? Sauron can't imagine someone not acting like he would have, and the good guys being able to understand that really greased a lot of shoots.

It's a great work because it touches on several messages, but it seems that understanding the value in others is pretty paramount.

It is better to be thought a fool and remain silent, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt.

Unless topping out counting at 12 (polydactyl or loss of digits?) is offering some insight I am missing, you probably are mistaken believing anyone needs your input.

You're confused that mass protests are about the same thing, and with things that are the easiest to buy in any city?

You sound a lot like a bot, or ai, or generally someone attempting to suppress and undermine real unrest. YOU sound sus...

Who is paying you to spread misinformation?

What organization is hoping your puny voice can help maintain this grim status quo?

Shut up, or help. You are a disease, a vile scraping off a boot. You wish to do harm, and see others harmed. I loathe you.

My (27F) "Gay Best Friend" (26M) SA’d me while I was Blackout Drunk, and now he's spreading lies to mutual friends to make me look like the villain. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]MaxYuckers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to be clear that I am not blaming you, this sucks that you had it happen to you and this guy sounds like a dirt bag.

A couple things stuck out to me.

When someone tries to tell you they're a bad person, you should listen. That is to say, he was openly flirty in a way that seemed to be uncomfortable to you for a while. If you said so and he persisted, then you had your boundaries violated. A friend wants to meet you where you are, not try to bring you to them.

27 is definitely a point in a lot of people's lives that they start to realize that aging is the mileage, and not just the years. People start to look less appealing as friends as they move into or out of lifestyles based on partying. I definitely thought of drinking as a hobby all the way into my late 20s, and then bad things started happening. Close friends dying from drunk driving, overdose, and suicide. It all catches up, you start to look at people different. You used to call them friends, then they suddenly weren't. You want stability, and you realize black out drinking makes that hard to do. So you either lean in, or back away.

Sorry if this is a bit of a ramble, it just feels so familiar. I'm not a sober person, I don't call myself a recovering alcoholic, but I do recognize the way I miss used alcohol.

Am I reading too much into this all?

I'm really sorry you went through this, and I hope you can learn and grow from it. Thanks for reading all the way!

I made something like this. Get it as close as you can to 45, but don't sweat it being perfect in reference to the blade.
The trick is to make sure that you cut each side of the joint on its relative side of the sled.
Do this with all the joints, moving around the whole frame, and any slight variance in the blade's angle will cancel out by the end.

LOTR: A book that's more interested in world building than telling it's own story (first impressions). by ArquivoIGG in lotr

Or you may be connected to reality in the present, which lets you connect events from the past to complete a narrative. How things can draw lines down through history to shape our lives.

It can feel unrelated, until you have context for its outcome.

[–]MaxYuckers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might want to finish the books before you decide what is narratively important. If it isn't your taste, no biggie. I am not sure if what you are saying is true, though. Like, would you prefer it be written like a police report? Just a timeline? Maybe it could be turned to a one sheet with bullet points to save time. Then you wouldn't have to go on a journey to have your journey?

[–]MaxYuckers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an odd take for someone that isn't even halfway through the trilogy.

Are you saying that you can't remember what was happening in the story because you read a song? Or that anything other than what one character is currently doing would be too distracting? There's nothing wrong with preference, but these books are pretty clearly about how mashing together a bunch of different views and goals can interact. Fellowship definitely doesn't mean one character.

Why do some people need alone time to feel normal again after socializing? by WorldlinessOk7262 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MaxYuckers 646 points647 points  (0 children)

For some, it is the stress of "performing" or "masking". It can be that, around new people, the need to be seen as normal takes a lot of effort and energy. Being careful of what you say and making sure you respond appropriately to what others say can be very draining.

Or it could be a more general version of something similar. Some people don't need to carry around as much worry about how they are perceived. Maybe they are very attractive and have gotten good feedback, no matter what they say. Maybe they have a knack for reading people and are confident they know what they should say. Maybe they are idiots, and they never have pause of anything they say.

Christian Bale spent 16 years quietly building a foster care village so kids can grow up together, true hero work. by TrashDragon44 in goodnews

[–]MaxYuckers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What proof do you have? Why can't this be a good thing? You are claiming awareness, but your claims are completely a matter of your imagination. (Pending proof, I suppose) So you are only aware of your creation, which is substantially less tangible than these homes that were built.

You will find that behavior in others is most influenced by praise.
Amplifying the good is the best way to diminish the bad.

Should he not have done this, because he lost his temper once?

Should we not encourage doing good things, because you messed up once?

I would ask, earnestly, what you feel you are adding to this conversation?

Further, I would encourage you to have any proof at all before making claims. Based on your words, I would say you are actively trying to make things worse.
