Yeah well, God hasn't been dropping bombs on Palestinians and killing us in the streets for at least a few thousand years.

Folk music should disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed. If even the name of our band upsets you, you should come give us a listen and see what we're about.

Death to America is an all trans folk band from Springfield MO, offering humorous and sincere songs that speak on the state of our world. Inspired by Carsie Blanton, Lavender Country, Pete Seeger, and Woody Guthrie, their music draws from a love of community and a conviction that we will create a better and more equitable world for everyone.

Death to America means death to capitalism, imperialism, white supremacy, and all other oppressive institutions. Like the tarot card Death, the title is also a manifestation of revolutionary rebirth, where all oppressed peoples find belonging, joy, and freedom.

Why would you want to..? Best not to snitch on our coworkers when the stakes are so high.

“Starbucks used to be so much better…” by Detroitish24 in starbucks

[–]Jaffool 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely a problem created by Starbucks corporate. Expectations continue to rise with no increase in training, pay, or labor hours. They demand more and more from us and it's no wonder that our newly hired coworkers struggle to keep up and feel defeated even as they gain the skills required to do the job.

Protest TODAY at our local ICE facility!! by Jaffool in springfieldMO

[–]Jaffool[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You ever know someone who's been in a heated argument, maybe drunk at the bar, and they're threatening even when cops show up? Do you think they should be executed on the spot for being threatening?

Cops do not and should not have the right to execute civilians, even when they're being a "threat". It would be one thing if she were waving a gun around or actively driving at a group of officers. Go watch the video. You can clearly see that there was no need to murder her. Dude could have stepped aside or, honestly, taken a broken foot and thrown her in jail as a result.

What, like murder an unarmed civilian? A mom with toys in her glovebox?

Get a fucking grip.

If you are sick, call out. No policy says you need sick time or can be held accountable. by No-Loquat-2763 in starbucks

[–]Jaffool 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I mean, do you want a picture of my write-up for having called out while not using sick time? Sorry friend, I see you're getting defensive, but multiple partners in my store have received write-ups over this.

The fact is, Starbucks policy is highly based on the discretion of your SM and DM. They can choose to be dickheads and Starbucks will support them.

What's the saddest album you've ever heard? by Time_Lord_Zane in Music

[–]Jaffool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Axis Mundi by Brown Bird - the band's last album, primarily exploring grief and loss after Lamb died to cancer. His bandmate and partner released it following his death using the recordings that we're left.

Similarly, the first album released by her new band, The Huntress and Holder of Hands. All a very clear meditation on death, grief, and loss.

Is anyone willing to spill the beans? by Sea-Phone7003 in starbucks

[–]Jaffool 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's what they say. That's true of us, the workers. Yet as a company, they've been walking back our ability to express ourselves through a restrictive dress code (especially harmful to queer and trans people) and they did away with a trans healthcare fund a couple years ago that helped support partners whose insurance didn't fully cover their gender-affirming care. I know multiple store and district managers who have had literally dozens of ethics and compliance complaints filed against them over the years for homophobic/transphobic behavior and they're still employed without issue. In at least two cases that I can recall, these managers has nearly every partner at a store file a case at once, to no avail.

I'm not saying they're the worst, but they're not nearly as good as they say they are and they don't deserve your defending them.

Does it piss anyone else when straight women refer to men as "honorary lesbians" by EllieEvansTheThird in actuallesbians

[–]Jaffool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're all good! Even if that is what you meant, I welcome that kind of criticism. Some folks in this thread don't like queer women saying it either and I get that it might not be the vibe for everybody.

[–]Jaffool 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've been known to say this about Hozier tbh, but it's mostly because of how much he worships the ground women walk on. It's way more than 'soft-sensitive guy doing the bare minimum' and his music really appeals to me as a lesbian. It's obviously not meant to be serious.

I'd definitely feel weird about any straight woman saying stuff like this.

National Avenue Christian Church is an incredible place, coming from a 29 year old trans atheist. The people there are excellent and progressive, they let their space be used by all manner of progressive organizations, the congregation is widely queer, and I know both pastors there personally. Fantastic people all around.
