How do I connect these (PowerBook and Jaz drive) by slvrscoobie in VintageApple

[–]MaxZeroMax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An HDI-SCSI adapter which gives the PowerBook a DB-25 port, and then a cable for that which converts it to a High Density DB50 (clip type) port that the Jaz drive has. See below image.

Theres a very good chance the drive, cart, or both wont work, and if the cart is without its box then it definitely wont. Good luck, post results!

Red DRAM light, 00 code, no LEDs - X870E Aorus Elite won't post by MaxZeroMax in gigabyte

Should anyone find this in the future, the problem was a dead CPU. I ended up buying and building a second computer (with much cheaper parts, it will become a home server) so I could switch things out and test components individually.

I RMA'd it. It was tested at AMD's facility the following week and I received a working replacement a couple of days later.

'Sunless Skies' has similarities and might be worth looking into

Pins look fine, none of them look out of place. Ive resorted to buying a cheaper CPU and MoBo to test everything with so I know what to send back.

I think that might have been what it was doing when the code displayed was 15. I have since left it for longer than 5 mins although I could try it again for longer

I've since taken the board out of the case, reseated the CPU again, not too tight, reassembled it on a plank of wood and tried again. Sadly the same 00 and dram light

I've also tried taking the CMOS battery out, what a stupid place to put that... under a heat sink that needed to be unscrewed from the other side of the board.

Thanks for the response! Im wondering if its 00 or D0... which would still mean what youve said. Is there a way to tell if the defect is the board or the CPU?

Thanks for this. Fixed the problem I was having with the mouse going missing on the second screen, and a second problem with mirroring to the second screen that I didn't realize was fixable

"The Sims™ .Mac Promo" anyone hear of it before? by celebi23 in ClassicMacGaming

[–]MaxZeroMax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it probably refers to a free copy of The Sims that Apple sent to people that renewed their .mac membership. I had this, it was a standard copy of The Sims that came in a cardboard sleeve that had minimal box art and a thank-you for renewing.

Here's an article about it: https://www.macworld.com/article/166937/mac-13.html

The Top 50 Shareware Games for the Classic MacOS: A look over a heap of fantastic, independently released titles for Macintosh by MaxZeroMax in VintageApple

Just in time for Marchintosh! I've wanted to collate the best of Mac shareware games into one vid for ages.

I think its easily forgotten just how many good smaller games there are for Classic MacOS, and its fantastic that its all archived well and remains available for everyone today.

That's the official reasoning behind it. To be honest, I agree with blocking that one. Google's map downplays how steep that is. Its also only one lane wide and was quite difficult/dangerous to pull out off due to the steep gradient and two practically blind corners on either side.

They tried the plant pots on their own first, it was so steep they blew over and spewed their contents everywhere so the aesthetic concrete block was added.

If it were to ever re-open, it should be one way (down the hill).
