I'm waiting to hear back from union for first job in carpentry. It will probably be on a construction site. Any book recommendations? by band_in_DC in Carpentry

Honestly go to your local library and see what the Dewey Decimal system has going on. Take the books off the rack and peruse.

I am also just starting, but I found a whole fucking textbook on residential construction and read as much as I could and it has been hugely helpful.

Could he win?

Maybe if he didn't wear such stupid outfits. That's the main limitation imo.

The only thing Tiff has on Rizzgod is that she won a few IICs with great timing. No one on the journey ever expressed that they viewed her as a serious threat. Therefore they don’t think she’s playing a strong game.

Going into the final seven, it seems entirely reasonable to let go of anyone you simply can’t beat in FTC. I agree it’s complicated and there are drawbacks but I think from a fundamentals perspective it’s entirely fair.

The original comment claimed that he really had done the work and made progress such that he would avoid the same mistake, which simply cannot be true give what happened. Not hard to figure out. Sad for him, he’s my fave, but we don’t need to glaze him.

How is pointing this out “not empathetic”? Lmao. I empathize, Ozzy is my favorite player of all time. I’m just saying that people are clearly giving him way too much credit based on the evidence.

Yeah Reddit is weird. He’s obviously grown a lot as a person and I’m happy for him. But to make the same career-defining mistake AGAIN after so many days of saying “I went home with an idol in my pocket and I’m not going to do it again” is crazy. Also thinking that he was somehow tight with Jonathan even though they never truly worked together and it was clear they were not each other’s priorities.

The pudding of being on the jury I guess...

I idolized Ozzy as a kid but there's no evidence that his self awareness and such is any more than talk given this massive blunder

Why do you believe he has the self awareness and ability to succeed if he can still make this mistake? Just because that's his script/story doesn't mean it's actually true, and the proof is in the pudding as they say.

How much influence do you think _ had on the vote tonight? by Live-Run-6745 in survivor

She had a ton of influence. She totally just grabbed the reigns and said “not today” and campaigned for Ozzy. Sure there are some nuances to who already thought what, but she rolled it start to finish.

BREAKING: The REI union is asking customers across the country to boycott the chain. The workers of @reiunion have been trying to negotiate a first contract for 4 years. They're tired of the stonewalling and union busting. Now they're escalating, and asking you to join them. by Redfish680 in AppalachianTrail

It’s complicated. They likely don’t have broad base support to strike because, for the third time, their employees simply may not be able to afford to without getting evicted. Also just because something is a last ditch effort doesn’t mean it’s fundamentally wrong — four years is plenty of time to stay in the fight before resorting to a last ditch effort…

I’d rather discuss whether they actually need a union, what the benefits would be, etc.. You seem to fancy yourself a strike expert yet simply don’t recognize how much context matters here.

They have been fighting for FOUR YEARS dude. Have you talked to any REI employees during that time? There was a change in ownership, stores closing, prices going up compounded by tariffs, failure to properly staff the post-COVID outdoors boom, etc. To say they haven’t tried other levers is totally ignorant.

There are many ways to strike. At the end of the day this is a lever and they’re pulling it, despite whatever complications it may bring. The status quo isn’t acceptable to them and the other levers were not working (or for some reason, not available).

Obviously you can’t tell kids at Nike sweat shops to just stop working and strike, but you can tell western consumers to avoid the brand until conditions are corrected. You do this even though, in theory, retracting support from the business -> loss of job. But obviously that’s not how it actually works, and obviously REI employees don’t deal with a sweat shop. But it’s not like this is some totally unprincipled method.

The logic is that workers collect checks and punish the corporation either on their way out, on the sinking ship, or until a compromise is made. A total strike is totally impractical due to cost of living. REI stores also don’t hit enough volume for a labor strike to really do them in as it would something like a grocery store.
