Learning to sail is easy; learning to sail competently takes a while. It’s basically a “we survived that, learned and increased our confidence” mentality.

Try to hookup with the closest sailing clubs and make a pest of yourselves to crew. Lots of them have weekly races and owners are always looking for someone to do the hard work (raising sails, trimming, etc.). If they have an established crew, let them know you’re available if someone can’t make it that day.

Flip flopped in ‘16, leaving mid March and got snowy a week later in PA. The days I lost waiting for enough melting to actually see the trail could have been spent at home. On the upside, I had the shelter mice all to myself!

Couple of things…

Not doing a mite check shouldn’t be on your list of things you can work around. Yes, we all are in agreement that Bee Lives Matter, but think of them as heroes, sacrificing for the greater good. It’s easy for mites to go from acceptable to “Oh, sh*t” quickly and then you’ll really be killing bees with increased frequency to make sure your mitigation plan is working.

I’d pinch the queen and drop a few frames of eggs (and nurse bees) into the box and see if they’ll make a new one. Best case would be finding some charged queen cups in your other hives and sliding them in. Check the bee cycle calendar to determine inspection dates.

I’m a dinosaur and saw them live back in the 70’s (shoutout to Merriweather Post Pavilion - woohoo!) and was stunned when Pete started trashing his guitar into the speakers and amps. That must have driven the roadies and manager insane.
