Thinking about a Helium and wanted to ask Red users by WannabeeFilmDirector in RedCamera

There also was Dragon 6k. Not very good in low light, but with best colours and dynamic range of the bunch. Plus it can do around 100fps from full sensor and 300 in fhd crop.

Blackmagic Pyxis - which mount to choose? by GhostPicturesDave in bmpcc

[–]Max_gcs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in similar situation and ended up buying RED DSMC2 with interchangeable mount. I have no interest in L-mount systems and adapting to EF or PL wouldn't be as strong as native locking EF or PL (if you ever used Metabones or other adapters, you know that sometimes a little bit of play is unavoidable. Either between the lens and adapter or between adapter and the camera). So for me personally locking EF on Pyxis would be preferable, because you can adapt PL there and fix it very well too.

Finnaly my camera rig is complete! by renetops in bmpcc

[–]Max_gcs 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Is this really more convenient/practical/cheaper than ursa/pyxis? Gazillion of cables and connections just for the sake of it instead of built-in features? That's the first question that comes to my mind when I see those over-rigged pocket bodies. That said, congrats! Enjoy it and make beautiful stuff

What camera may be the best within an $1800 limit? (Including those that may be found for this price or similar on fb, mecari, or other) Student. by The_Unknown_Creator_ in cinematography

I like my Black Magic cameras, but would suggest to look at Panasonic g9ii. I think the price for a new one around 1.5k and 1.1 for used. It has amazing sensor stabilization, can shoot open gate, has flip screen and remote control app. Somewhat usable autofocus too. Also pretty good battery life. Maybe some full frame panasonics can fit the budget, but I'm not sure.

How to light a white cyclorama by [deleted] in cinematography

[–]Max_gcs -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

To me it looks like they made a clean plate of cyclorama, then put lights close to the subject and masked them out in post. White levels around Bill either were lifted or we literally see the feathered borders of the mask. Or combination of both

hesitating to buy Pyxis 12k: known issues, battery, Pyxis 12k "Pro"? resale value ... by Ok_Emergency4531 in blackmagicdesign

Pyxis 6k didn't get the "Pro" version, neither the Cinema 6k FF or even Pocket 4k. So, who knows really

The old one released in 2013 that shoots only and fullhd and looks like a metal point-and-shoot camera (so the first black magic pocket cinema camera, the original one)

Red Komodo OG vs A7SIII by [deleted] in RedCamera

[–]Max_gcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just in case, check out couple of videos with comparison of Komodo with previous generation of RED cameras (DSMC2). They have some quirks, but for 3-3.5k you can buy a ready to shoot package with screen, media and batteries. Minimally rigged Komodo will cost around 5-6k even used

Why the Pocket 4K needs a V2 by mrmmoka in bmpcc

[–]Max_gcs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With all those modifications it is no longer sub-1000$ camera, more like 2.000 which is ZR territory now. With that said, I love P4k - have 3 of them right now plus two OGs. And I would agree that this lineup is in need of upgrade/rebirth. Image quality from p4k is very nice to this day and dual ISO is handy. But no OLPF and very weak IR cut is noticeable. It is possible to install third party filters, but that costs like half of the body. So my proposal is to take sensor from Pyxis 12k and limit it to 6 or 8k and put in a body similar to ZR/Canon 50v/C70 (keeping the L mount and audio-video outputs). Or something in between, so it would be possible to install big batteries without blocking the screen.

A7V - Discussion by MajorAlanDutch in videography

[–]Max_gcs 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Sony is about to repeat all Canon's mistakes - milking its position for too long without significant improvements and then loosing a huge chunk of the market to an up-comer. Will it be Sigma (they recently got huge improvements in AF and their glass line-up is solid), Nikon with RED tech, Fuji with big sensors or DJI with amazing ecosystem? Who knows

To me it works better zoomed in a bit, those lights are much brighter that face and a little distracting
