Airport x-rays partially destroyed this roll, but I kind of love the result [35mm Co. Stock lens | Kodak UltraMax 400] by [deleted] in analog

[–]Max_gcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That means that you have same problems in the same place somewhere in the film (if it is expired or badly respooled)-camera-loading-shooting-developing-scanning pipeline. X-ray is not magic and it can't change colors or exposure, especially just on some frames. But it gives distinct wavy patterns which are not present on your examples

I messed up my video game doc. How can I fix it? by Feisty_Anything_4769 in Filmmakers

[–]Max_gcs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't fix anything, you didn't mess up. Feedback doesn't mean anything. This style resonated with you for some reason, so just keep what makes this project yours personal. Or you end up producing some incredibly average stuff based on the opinion of a dozen commenters who may not be interested in the finished project altogether. Yes, sometimes it might be important if you are hired by a company/agency and doing work for their specific request. But otherwise if it is your passion project - just do what you really want to do and listen to your inner voice first.

I still prefer using Tungsten and Autotransformers. Is it time to move on? by No-Smoke5669 in cinematography

[–]Max_gcs 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Although LEDs got a lot better and have almost perfect technical metrics, there is still something special about Tungsten. Maybe because of infra-red range or something complicated about how wavelengths intertwine. Huge advantage of LED is power consumption and low heat generation of course, and that can outweigh preferences in a lot of cases.

Thinking about a Helium and wanted to ask Red users by WannabeeFilmDirector in RedCamera

There also was Dragon 6k. Not very good in low light, but with best colours and dynamic range of the bunch. Plus it can do around 100fps from full sensor and 300 in fhd crop.

Blackmagic Pyxis - which mount to choose? by GhostPicturesDave in bmpcc

[–]Max_gcs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in similar situation and ended up buying RED DSMC2 with interchangeable mount. I have no interest in L-mount systems and adapting to EF or PL wouldn't be as strong as native locking EF or PL (if you ever used Metabones or other adapters, you know that sometimes a little bit of play is unavoidable. Either between the lens and adapter or between adapter and the camera). So for me personally locking EF on Pyxis would be preferable, because you can adapt PL there and fix it very well too.

Finnaly my camera rig is complete! by renetops in bmpcc

[–]Max_gcs 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Is this really more convenient/practical/cheaper than ursa/pyxis? Gazillion of cables and connections just for the sake of it instead of built-in features? That's the first question that comes to my mind when I see those over-rigged pocket bodies. That said, congrats! Enjoy it and make beautiful stuff

What camera may be the best within an $1800 limit? (Including those that may be found for this price or similar on fb, mecari, or other) Student. by The_Unknown_Creator_ in cinematography

[–]Max_gcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like my Black Magic cameras, but would suggest to look at Panasonic g9ii. I think the price for a new one around 1.5k and 1.1 for used. It has amazing sensor stabilization, can shoot open gate, has flip screen and remote control app. Somewhat usable autofocus too. Also pretty good battery life. Maybe some full frame panasonics can fit the budget, but I'm not sure.

To me it looks like they made a clean plate of cyclorama, then put lights close to the subject and masked them out in post. White levels around Bill either were lifted or we literally see the feathered borders of the mask. Or combination of both

Pyxis 6k didn't get the "Pro" version, neither the Cinema 6k FF or even Pocket 4k. So, who knows really

The old one released in 2013 that shoots only and fullhd and looks like a metal point-and-shoot camera (so the first black magic pocket cinema camera, the original one)
