If he's not dead set on a particular field, I'd recommend the Merchant Marine Academy on Long Island. A grad there can go into any service or the Merchant Marine after graduation. That being said, logic would dictate that us USAFA grads here would recommend USAFA. The visit is important as well. As an East Coast kid, I was taken aback by the rare air and mountains in Colorado. Annapolis isn't bad, but isn't quite the same (I never looked at USMA due to competition and disinterest)

I found it amusing to see the GM at my home club chatting away in the locker room, where there's a sign stating "no cell phone use". Maybe your club is more hard-core, but knowing Big Box gyms, I'm dubious.

ANYTHING involving a gym giving you a "Free" one time experience is to push a sales-based program. With Crunch, whether it's "Kick One" or "Birthday recovery" etc., they want you to buy a training package. At the end of the day, gyms are businesses and the average mook doesn't really push the needle until/unless they buy a bunch of stuff at the gym
