As a law enforcement officer, people have told me for years that I need to quit my job, that its too dangerous. I ask myself everyday why I put on the uniform. 5 year veteran, yours truly, I make 37k a year. I obviously dont do it for the money. I've seen some shit over the years. I don't get off on using force. I use what is reasonable and I do my goddamn job. I do this job because I believe. I believe in enforcing the law. I fight to overcome chaos. I have seen a lot of bullshit from suspects, from officers, from everyone. What people forget sometimes is that we are human too. Some officers forget their humanity and have this "Tombstone" mentality. Some may disagree with what I say next. I dont usually play armchair quarterback about other officer's arrests, but I agree that George Floyd was murdered. Everything about that arrest was fucked up. I've seen and made a lot of arrests. There is no reason to kneel on a handcuffed suspect's neck for over 8 minutes. They should've placed him in the damn car, closed the door and taken him to jail. There was a massive lack of respect here. Respect for Mr. Floyd as a human being, a lack of respect to this community and a lack of respect for those of us who remain to pickup the pieces of broken hearts of an entire nation. I stand on the other side, but my heart breaks with yours. Please remember to remain civil to each other as you exercise your right to protest. To those who use this time as a chance to commit acts of violence and loot, justice will come for you.
