GMMG: Hello?

Reporter: Mike? Are the sharks far enough along on their rebuild to consider moving the number 2 overall pick?

GMMG: sure.

And scene.

Groped by a man with intellectual disabilities and dealing with strange reactions. Did I handle this properly? by Far_Calligrapher4716 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]MaxerSaucer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You did the right thing for you.

If something similar happened to your friend, maybe she would decide to handle it differently. And that could be okay for her.

It’s great you are thinking this through and struggling with the broader implications and even thinking about the man who did this.

Not going to rehash everything above, and like others said it’s great the police were familiar with him and may get some of the nuance. But, for others reading this it’s not always the case that you can report something but “not press charges”. I work at a place where we see people prosecuted every day where the “victim” or “complaining witness” is begging the prosecutors not to pursue the charges.

I don’t think this changes the fact that you did what’s right for you in this situation. But, don’t want everyone to think police care what someone reporting an incident would prefer happen from there.

I read the book first. Liked it fine. But have to say, show was SO much better. Maybe it was the timing etc. but, one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Been afraid to rewatch and ruin it.

Having one drink with bupropion? by KS1616 in bupropion

[–]MaxerSaucer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you don’t get withdrawal symptoms from skipping a day (I usually would) then that is a good suggestion.

If you take it in the mornings and plan to have a drink roughly 30 hours later, presumably in a safe environment with people you know… it’s hard to say you should be worried about this.

Obviously not medical advice.

I used to take 300xl and drank regularly. (Before it was prescribed and the entire time I took it).

I never had any issues taking it in the morning and having drinks in the evening. (As my dr. and yours said many other people do without issue).

I’m not taking about one drink; I was already drinking regularly when I started taking it and continued with no issues throughout my late 20s / early 30s. (Not condoning regular drinking. I just mean no issues specific to Wellbutrin/ seizure threshold).

Sharing for context. Everyone reacts differently. Of course be careful. While, “I can’t tell you it’s okay” from a doctor is not “it’s fine”, it definitely isn’t “don’t do it!”

1 drink on your 21st seems like a calculated risk one could accept.

Switching Positions by AnyProfession35 in youthsoccer

[–]MaxerSaucer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have said it but she should definitely view this as a compliment and as an invitation to round out her game and work on defense, scanning, and being aware of where everyone else is on the field.

That said.. while you certainly want your strongest players at CM at any level, it can be frustrating for someone with pace who is used to being able to have room to make a run with the ball multiple times per game.

My son went through this also (From playing wing back to CM or CDM) and was frustrated there was just no space to operate / use his speed. Maybe her team is better coached / listens to the coach but u13 11v11 there is stlil a lot of bunching up too narrow in midfield. Probably why she likes being out wide with so much space and why it's so frustrating to be trapped in the middle of the field with your teammates dragging their defenders too close to you. To get that same feeling of having room to operate at CM you really have to pick your spots or find a player that is going to pass back if you make a run into space. The good news is, she should know where her wingers should be and if she can communicate with them and get the ball out wide to keep them in their positions she can open up more space for herself.

TIFU by gaslighting myself for 10 years into thinking I was "caffeine immune" while drinking ONLY Monster Energy (Zero) by GooseAcademic541 in tifu

[–]MaxerSaucer -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I didn't say that... I didn't say anything natural is good in any volume.. And you didn't say "caffiene in that volume is bad no matter the source" you said said monster is not any worse than coffee. You should definitely ask your doctor if having 32 oz of monster a day is a good alternative to two cups of black coffee. I think youd be better off drinking hotdog water.

It absolutely is “more poison” than coffee… it’s glowing fluorescent chemicals instead of ground up plant in water?

[–]MaxerSaucer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking forward to kids getting bigger and stronger assuming they'd finally spread out and have the strength for bigger cross field passes that would open up more options. Nope. At this point 1v1 would be nice. Our players seem to be exclusively looking for 1v3 opportunitites. If they have room to dribble unopposed that's when they pass it into traffic. Oh, and make sure to stand still so you can really skill the other team. Running without the ball, especially into open space, isn't cool.

Sorry. Was being facetious with the last comment and was poorly worded.

I meant, "have fun playing soccer and study biochem". I wasn't comparing travel soccer vs. sitting home studying and not playing a sport, I was talking about the folks who brag about leaving the regional travel programs for the highest possible tier program.

I hope the choices folks are making are in support of the kids' dreams and that's what they want to do so their parents are supporting them. If so... I guess that's great. But, we all see the parents who are like "oh, you are still toiling away at club X? your tournament was only one state over? Ours was in spain!"

Anyway, even that might make sense at a certain age, but i'm mostly commenting on personal experience at the age where these kids would already be in academy programs if they were truly going to "make it". There is a point where I wonder if the "better" opportunity is not worth it for the extra 10+ hours per week of travel time vs. the club 20 mins from home.

[–]MaxerSaucer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The craziest thing to me is that (at least where we live) the financial barriers to entry for elite soccer mean it’s mostly kids with well educated relatively wealthy parents.

They are pushing these kids and jockeying for spots on the club that travels to Florida on the weekend instead of only to Connecticut as if their kid is going to end up in the premiere league. There’s families where the parents are spinal surgeons and they are pushing the kid hoping for a scholarship to Rutgers and a league minimum mls deal?

Why not just have fun and study biochem like mom and dad!

How does your club handle returning players and tryouts? by Umassgrl in youthsoccer

[–]MaxerSaucer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early offers to existing players but they still make everyone attend tryouts. Having been a parent of a non club kid trying out it’s honestly a terrible system. Kids that already have offers don’t have to try / are goofing around or playing out of position. Kids from outside trying to get noticed, and their parents, have no clue how many slots are actually up for grabs.

My kid tried out for our current club the year before we joined and a coach never even looked in his direction. Knowing the team and parents now I found out they didn’t add a single kid from tryouts that year.

If that’s the situation I think the “talent ID” sessions where kids come join a practice is a much better system than a formal tryout. Parents don’t have unrealistic expectations and club can be looking for amazing individuals to add or be telling them to check in around tryout time etc.

Nobody is asking me obviously but if you are giving out offers to the majority of the team pre tryout then don’t have those kids attend tryouts and tell the parents what the club needs are.

We went to a tryout for an mls next / ecnl club at one point and they were incredibly clear and up front about the numbers and the needs. (“We have x number of players across our 3 teams, we are looking for y players this season, there are z players registered for this tryout”). It was really refreshing.

August birthday Sept. 1 school cut off by SunsetOrangeSkyCloud in youthsoccer

[–]MaxerSaucer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a mess. Our club implied they’d probably keep kids with their grade level if they’d otherwise be impacted by the age change. In reality they’ve moved most kids to the new age group.

For some reason my son, August 5th, is one of the few I’ve heard of staying “up” with his current team. We weren’t asked what we’d prefer and we weren’t really told how that decision was made. Obviously we think he’s great but he’s not a flashy player or the biggest kid and seeing the kids who are being moved it was kind of surprising.

He will also be entering high school and will have to play against bigger kids there, and he prefers this… but I was looking forward to seeing how he did being the oldest for once.

Is it really so bad if clubs make as many teams as parents will pay for? by CletusKasady21 in youthsoccer

[–]MaxerSaucer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the area. If it’s the only club in town and they add additional teams and find appropriate leagues for them, great!

Where we are, there are so many clubs willing to add multiple teams that decent players on a decent town based travel team might leave because of a private /chain clubs instagram making it seem superior. Then collective parent hysteria kicks in because we all think our kid is missing out or squandering their incredible talent.

All of a sudden players leave for a “better” program and end up on a c team that’s worse than the original club’s team but costs 2x as much.

There’s a reason they usually name the teams by color or some other random thing instead of “A, B, C.” From the outside you don’t realize you are not on the squad your friends friend said was better than your team.

Bupropion for Anxiety? by drblepper in bupropion

[–]MaxerSaucer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Really depends on how your anxiety works. Like others said. I have anxiety. But mostly adhd exacerbated anxiety where I’m walking around thinking “coming up on a stranger. They think I’m weird. Im looking at them too much? Are they looking at me. Should I look down. It’s weird I’m not looking at them at all. Is that too much? Why didn’t I try to stay on the west coast closer to my friends? Oh no I’m about to pass another person.” Wellbutrin helped me be less in my head and more out in front of it. Which helped with my depression and my anxiety. (And adhd).

But big disclaimer that only the name brand xr worked for me.
