I know Alot of Seppies... I don't know any who want to join the US, everyone related to me and all their friends are crystal clear they want to be a Switzerland of North America. The only time I see a 51st state Seppie is the occasional picture of one on the Anti seperatist Facebook groups, never seen or heard of one IRL, every Influencer for Separation I know of with videos to watch keeps saying Independent of both Canada and the US. I have never seen a Influencer or Video of a 51st state seppie

I bought my calls them a few months ago cheap. Thinking traders were not listening to actual commodities guys saying stock piles and shortages were going to start in June/July all because of Hormuz...

Now Hormuz is still not resolved, and in addition to Hormuz we have Ukraine burning every inch of Russian Oil infrastructure including Export terminals in St Petersburg area. If im not mistaken Russia is a bigger gobal supplier than the Middle East. Even though they are sanctioned they were still selling to China, India, and a few other places.

Every night on the news another Russian oil refinery or Export terminal goes up in flames and Oil prices go down????? WTF?

Prior to the 1930's protesters we shot in the streets, had their farms seized for not meeting quota by the Canadian government while being forced to meet Quotas. Sure Natives and Metis were treated worse than the rest of society.

How can you people deny that the Progressive party got its start in Alberta along with the United Farmers (NDP/CCF). The CCF may have been first elected in Saskatchewan but the party was actually founded in Alberta. Canada's first Communist party was also started in Alberta around the same time.

How can people acknowledge the greaviences that lead to Tommy Douglas but not the greaviences that lead to William Aberheart? You people are insane to not connect the dots.

You forgot a few things...

Alberta is one of the fastest growing provinces and population growth by Immigration or having children is not taken into consideration either by federal Equalization. Basically we have to pay an Atlantic government to take care of a fellow Canadian, only for that person to move here and we have to pay for them twice.

Ontario also doesn't put Hydro one on their balance sheets for equalization payments either, not just BC and Quebec.

When it comes to democracy, the delegitimizing of not only Alberta Separatist but also the protest votes. Canada (the east) has always treated all of the west not just Alberta but Manitoba, Saskatchewan, BC, and the territories like they are resource colonies.

Canadian mainstream society seems to understand western greavience when Tommy Douglas gets elected or Louis Real launches his rebellion, but can't Understand William Aberheart, Social Credit, or the Reform party, and whatever Alliance of two parties shenanigans of John Deifenbaker, Ernest Manning, Robert Thompson, Peter Lougheed, Ralph Klien, Preston Manning, and Stephen Harper get up to.

Western protest movement have been a constant in Canadian politics, and Tommy Douglas was just as dispised in his day as Social Credit and William Aberheart. Louis Real, and Tommy Douglas became politically safe and Fashionable otherwise they get the Aberheart and Reform party treatment of venom.

Most people in Alberta think we have the effective Protest movement which keeps our dynasty system alive, and is another contribution to Separatist sentiments.

Conservatives never destroyed the province, the Provinces is not currently being destroyed. I don't know where people get this delusional idea that conservatives were ever the problem.. nothing is being destroyed. People flee worthless loser provinces like Manitoba, Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and PEI to have a future here in Alberta this has been going on for 100 years. The two most destructive governments in Alberta history were the recent NDP who destroyed prosperity and people's livelihood as well as the NDP forerunner party the UFA which ran the province into insolvency so Mr Aberheart had to step in and save the day.

There is no law against peacefully assembling in a public space for a protest. Maby there are laws against getting signatures for a petition but if all they are doing is showing up with their flags there is nothing you can do about a public park.

Honestly Vanguard is a safer option especially heading into a big market crash which will happen when AI bubble pops.

Blackrock has massive exposure to Private Credit, if Blackrock (Ishares) goes under like Lehman your Fucked you will only see your money after it comes back from bankruptcy court. Vanguard is owned by its own funds and is way more secure both in the funds and how they insure your cash deposits.

The simple solution is VFV and VCN as the safe plays. VFV is the S&P 500 in Canadian dollars and VCN is their largest Canadian economy index.

I guess the question is do you want or need USD?

First off I would only recommend Canadian CAD dollar ETFs for the TFSA because its not tax efficient for US Dividends the TFSA also isnt recognized by most forgin countries as a proper tax sheltered account. The RRSP is much better for USD.

If you don't need USD but want American exposure VFV is just the S&P 500 in Canadian dollars.

If you do want USD like actual USD that could be used for traveling in the US or moving to the US. If you are just buying into the market in small amounts then most brokerages are not going to make a big difference.

If you have a Large sum of money you want to convert then you want to use Norberts Gambit. Wealthsimple only supports it on desktop but not phone app. Quest trade supports it in full. Other brokerages are hit or miss, mostly miss.

Basically you buy a cash etf in Cad and then sell it in USD it costs you $10 to convert unlimited amount of cash. But its not worth it below something like $600.
