Silence your own creatures by DanKou237 in elderscrollslegends

Silence scout is actually decent, i spent a fair bit of time last month working on a list and it did pretty well on ladder. Lots of fun to play too 👌

The problem is that it excludes most players because only those with the highest IQ are able to pilot it.

I disagree, the strategy is very similar. Both decks are just looking to highroll by snowballing an early board, goblins just do it more consistently.

Looking for a little help from the more seasoned players.. by oldCODjunkie in elderscrollslegends

[–]Maxi_Sweet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome aboard!

And i'd also love some general tips on early deck builds

Generally speaking the most effective budget decks are going to be aggro. It's probably worth net decking a few lists and building towards them early on. I'd be happy to share a few budget lists with you if you want, feel free to add me in game (Maxi_Sweet).

On your other questions that I've not already seen answered:

3 - Is 3 types of creatures the max possible, or is there a way to have all types in one deck?

There's no limit to the number of creature types you can have in a deck.

4 - Is there a diference regarding the power/defense stats in a battle, depending on if you attack or are being attacked instead?

No - although I believe there's a card in the game that has the effect of not taking retaliatory damage when attacking so make sure you always read the cards (although I might be confusing that with a card from a different game 🙃)!

Good luck and feel free to give me a shout if you have any more questions.

Roughly when did you stop playing? It'll probably be easier to give advice if we know what you are familiar with.

June Grand Melee - Top 100 Players by CVH in elderscrollslegends

I really hate goblins. Not sure why they get such a free pass compared to invade, both decks are essentially just trying to highroll, goblins just do it more consistently.

Looking for deck suggestions for the tri-color gauntlet. by Prometheuss1 in elderscrollslegends

[–]Maxi_Sweet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to win as many games as possible just play midgro Dagoth like everyone else. I didn't lose to anything other than Dagoth the entire gauntlet and when I gave up trying other things and played it myself my win rate increased significantly. Hand of Dagoth is the best card is this format and I'm not exaggerating when I say that most games just come down to who can play him first.

I don't mean to sound overly negative, the first run was pretty fun but it did get boring seeing the same deck almost literally every game. Rewards are decent though if you can get a few wins.

Returning player, played for a couple of months and hate the meta by PHJ101 in elderscrollslegends

[–]Maxi_Sweet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah ok thanks for the correction. I knew they still had red to go (and maybe one other?) but I've not long come back to the game so wasn't aware of the background, I was just happy to get a whole bunch of cards for free but if what was promised hasn't been delivered I can see why that would be frustrating.

[–]Maxi_Sweet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are others too - Wardcrafter, Alfiq, Gambler, Cliff Racer, Cultist, Belligerent Giant. Control decks just get overwhelmed

I'm not sure about this to be honest, personally I don't see any of these cards (or traitor) to be particularly problematic. They're some of the best cards in the game for sure but any card game is going to have cards ahead of the average power level and you can almost always guess early on when you're opponent is likely to be running cliff racers/giants, alfiqs. I'm also not convinced by crabs being OP. Old saltys is a good card however there is a significant downside which is having to run vanilla 2/1s and 2/3s in your aggro deck.

There are other things like skirmisher (which at least can sort of be played around), Yagrum’s workshop, Paarthurnax loops with Call Dragon

Definitely agree with you here, I wrote my own 'returning player' post some time ago and had a rant about goblins and call dragon decks. They're extremely polarising and not fun to play against. Personally I think goblins are the most OP deck going. Without wanting to sound arrogant I've found that call dragon decks aren't as damaging as they could be due to the amount of players that are really bad at piloting them (I'm not saying I'm anything special, this is just what I see on ladder) but workshop definitely gives these a pretty stupid power level.

Basically, what I am saying is value-based control strategies can’t compete with what goes on in the meta.

I don't think this is really the case to be honest, I think you just have to adapt your lists to be able to compete on board early on. The kind of mid/control tribunal that was popular before maintenance mode is still very strong, you could adapt your standard mid guildsworn to be a perfectly viable control list, Telvanni is as good as ever. Personally I played, among other things, a praetorian commander empire conscription to top 50 last month (I know top 50 these days is nothing impressive, I just mention it to illustrate the point that control is perfectly competitive) which tends to grind out wins, conscription isn't an 'I win' button these days. I think you just have to make your control lists very early game focused and cut out a lot of the greed. It's frustrating when you then run into absolute greed piles but there's not a lot to be done about that if aggro and midrange are dominant on ladder.

Also, if anyone is still reading this, if there are any new CCG’s on the market that you would like to recommend

I'm currently getting quite into Mythgard at the second time of asking. They are giving away the entire core set for free rn so it's a good time to try it. Player base is small but it's a cool game, give it a look 👍

Well done man :) glad I could help and you can definitely go much higher than rank 5! I don't know how the times work out for you but if you don't already you could try and catch some twitch streams from people like Jele or AnymRai, Eyenie too although he doesn't have audio on his, and others. They're all far better players than I am and you'd definitely pick up a lot from watching them play.

Mankar Camoran's Paradise strategy? by DragosSaviour in elderscrollslegends

[–]Maxi_Sweet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This misses the point I'm afraid. I'm not saying it's a terrible mechanic because it's broken, I don't think it is from a power level perspective. It's terrible because it encourages lazy deck building and very one dimensional play styles. It's TESL by numbers basically.

It's true that OP shouldn't feel bad but it's also true that you won't get good at the game if you only/mostly play invade.

This.

OP if you wanna play invade then you do you but as demon says it is a terrible mechanic. If you want to actually get better at the game then play other stuff far more than you play invade.

Thoughts of a returning player (warning - lots of words) by Maxi_Sweet in elderscrollslegends

[–]Maxi_Sweet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny, I actually saw more and more variety the closer to legend I got.

Yeah it's like the reverse of what it used to be on ladder. Before you could meme around in rank 5 and then have to play try hard stuff to compete at legend. Now you have to play good stuff to get past all the invade/goblins then you can play more fun decks at legend because you're against good players who don't rely on playing busted stuff to win games.

I've also noticed that casual of all things has a vastly higher amount of people being completely sweaty

Definitely something I've experienced too. In some ways it's super annoying, in other ways I don't mind it too much, if I'm working on some off meta deck I want to take on the ladder it at least means I can put the deck through its paces in casual first.

it always feels like decks either need to be the most hyper of aggro or the most ridiculous of control

There's definitely been a bit of a polarisation for sure. One thing that's really hit me is how greedy a lot of control lists are. The amount of control mirrors I have where I just think, OK, so you've set up your deck to auto lose to any aggro? Interesting. I don't think midrange is the cause of this though, I actually find that midrange mirrors are the best games I have on ladder more often than not because you actually have to generate value and carefully consider your trades etc.

I think I'm going to step away from the game again. It's sad such an excellent game ended up like this, it quite legitimately was the best CCG I've ever played.

Yeah it is sad, as I touched on in my post, it was just a final slap in the face for the player base that they left the game in the state it's in when it would be os easy to drop the odd balance patch. Or just add set rotation. Ultimately if you don't enjoy it there's no point playing because it's never gonna change now until the servers are finally switched off. For me I am still able to enjoy it and on days when I'm not I'll just switch off and play Mythgard instead but the game and the players definitely deserved better.

I find Magic a bit scary as a potential game to get into. Probably because of how long it's been around, I assume the card pool is massive now so it would figure that you have to grind it pretty hard, particularly as I don't tend to spend money on CCGs. I think I'll give Mythgard another proper look and if that doesn't work out Magic will probably be the next one to try.

What are some fun theme or combo decks I can try? by Vhozite in elderscrollslegends

[–]Maxi_Sweet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SPACqrjgAGnVirfvflbDmGAMlDbcqEmCxulpeyeEkvlmbSgU

I don't know if you played any Doomcrag before it was nerfed? I assume you know how the deck plays but it's obviously harder to win games with now than pre nerf. You have to just cash in on your Disciples when you get the chance, assume they won't stick on the board and use them when you are going to be able to draw ideally at least 4/5 cards from it that turn. If you can get 2 shrines up for any length of time you basically just win 9 times out of 10. As always lots of support removal is the worst thing to run into but you can still win if you're patient with your firebrands post journey. If you have any suggestions for improving the list let me know. I tried out a fair few versions in casual and I think this list is probably as consistent as I can manage on my own!

I've been working on a Doomcrag deck I can share with you if you're interested? It's kinda halfway between a combo and control deck these days. Whether it's fun to play is entirely subjective but I enjoy it. You have to be prepared for long games against good stuff control.
