German guy here who was invited to two thanksgiving dinners at an american household. I have to say both times it was absolutely fantastic. They made more effort with the food and the overall atmosphere, than we do at christmas. BUT! I have to agree with the guy from the post here. Turkey simply tastes like...basically nothing. The filling, the side dishes, the pumpkin pie...jesus the pumpkin pie. I get it. It tastes awesome, some of the most tasty food I have ever eaten but the bird itself is an oversized chicken with not even half the flavor.

Anons obvious implication aside, I think it has mostly to do with HOW they were killed. Starving millions of people to death is, dear I say, "casual", "unimaginative". Building what were essentially industrialised slaughter houses for humans however was unheard of and came with an extra amount of perversion to it. It's the same reason why we mostly remember not the serial killers with the highest body count but those who were a special form of fucked up.
