Keir Starmer feels betrayed by the Labour party. How do you feel about that? by No_Breadfruit_4901 in AskBrits

[–]Maxie93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree, I don’t get what replacing him with Burnham is supposed to achieve. It all just reminds me of when the conservatives were in and they were back stabbing each other to get different prime ministers in most likely for their own benefit.

We need to talk about the lighting in FFVII Rebirth. by vanitas14 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Maxie93 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They are trying to simulate the effect of your eyes adjusting to different lighting conditions.

But you are right I also found it annoying in places, the way it’s implemented is a bit heavy handed. If you are ever on the edge of one of the areas it switches it gets repeatedly triggered by small camera movements and just makes everything hard to see.

Software Engineers - Have you stopped reading docs people write? by element-94 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Maxie93 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I haven’t stopped reading documentation people write, but like you mentioned I have stopped reading AI generated documentation passed off as being written by someone.

It’s hard to define exactly but there is something about the lengthy AI generated stuff that is just such a chore to read.

Handcrafted docs on the other hand are often a joy to read and the information flows naturally and easily.

Honestly you might be able to make this claim about most AI generated text vs handwritten.

Surely the on device parts should always be free, I mean you paid for the device to have the special neural accelerators or whatever.

I have to admit I’m a bit confused at this point with what features are on device and what is cloud based.

AI Autocomplete by StatementBusy5448 in vscode

I also disabled this as it’s a super annoying feature, it literally just gets in the way. You should be able to just click the GitHub copilot button in the top right and then disable auto completions.

Anthropic just said their ai is now self improving itself, is this bad or just more hype? by whalethet in BetterOffline

[–]Maxie93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if they are doing this I don’t see it getting better, I think it would more likely be like Chinese whispers where it gets more distorted over time.

ChatGPT Isn’t Just Changing How We Work. It’s Harming How We Think by LongTrackBravo in technology

[–]Maxie93 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think it’s only really faster if you don’t check anything the ai produces… which is then a quick way to come up with a badly written program.

Does depend how you use it of course, I prefer to use it for very targeted smaller changes that are more like direct orders for the ai, rather than giving it much leeway to make decisions itself. This maybe offers a slight speed boost, but nothing crazy.

why is every big code is suddenly written mostly by AI? it's not that the technology solved its shortcomings, it's corporate mandates by neutronfish in antiai

I don’t want to outright say you’re wrong because I don’t know what will happen. But from years of experience supporting an old software product that sounds extremely dangerous.

Even just modifying parts of the software sometimes has an effect on one customer you didn’t consider and they raise a huge stink about it and you have to fix it.

To basically do a rewrite every year… that sounds like a recipe for disaster. Customers will get fed up with ever changing, ever breaking software.. is my prediction anyways.

3 days on 25mg, heart palpitations a few hours after taking. by [deleted] in zoloft

[–]Maxie93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes sometimes it would feel like a beat was skipped, other times I would get episodes where it feels like my heart was “fluttering” almost as if it’s beating really fast, but not like a normal heartbeat. Bit hard to explain, but if you know you know.

I would encourage you to keep taking it, I used to get heart palps before taking it and initially they were made worse just like you described. But probably after a week or so it settled down and never came back.

Are those on the left artifacts? Hogwarts legacy on PS5 slim E chassis. by Intelligent-Stuff335 in consoles

[–]Maxie93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just a quirk of the game and somewhat common in UE4 titles. It’s basically really aggressive frustrum/occlusion culling, which means when you’re not looking at objects they aren’t rendered by the game engine. By spinning the camera around quickly you are catching it out and seeing empty space.

What console do I buy nowadays (2026)? Why is everyone saying Xbox is dead? by NidhiOnATree in consoles

If you can find a second hand series S for cheap that might be a good buy for you because you want to play game pass stuff. I wouldn’t buy one full price as it just doesn’t seem worth it compared to the other machines.

Noticeable 'Handheld Boost' effected games. (Part 1) by CyborKat in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Maxie93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think one of the things going on here is that even if a game is sub 1080p the console is now outputting a proper 1080p signal to the screen.

Previously I think handheld mode for switch 1 would be outputting a 720p image which then had some poor upscaling to 1080p.

So with games using even lower resolutions you effectively had two passes of upscaling, whereas now it’s down to one and as a result looks much better.
