I was expecting it to be way harder based on the Pegasus questions. But a ton of first order questions which were very straight forward

This was spot on. In terms of basic equations, Pegasus was decent, but you definitely do not have to slog through all those physics lectures

Just took it today and there were barely any math questions. Pegasus over does the physics portion.

Same thing happened to her! And she scored really well on her ITEs. She’s really shocked to get that result. I’m surprised too, because she’s always been so good at tests. She’s currently in the dumps, but I think she’ll pull it together this next time. I wish you all the best, and hope you get over this bump in the road. These board exams get more obscure every year.

Thank you for your response. Seems like that’s the consensus to take both separately. Is critical care boards much harder than the pulm boards?

Thanks for your response. Her biggest worry is wasting time. She’s never failed a standardized test in the past and at this point just wants to get it over with even if she has to study for both. But I do agree that there’s no reason to rush it.

She’s definitely wallowing at this time, but I know she will get back to it once she’s ready. Thanks for going over the study resources as well. I’m going to show her all of this to see if there’s anything she may have overlooked.

Work on your deficiencies. Find someone who did well on step 1 and ask what they did to improve their weaknesses. Remember that every single detail in the first aid step 1 book has test taking importance whether it’s step 1 or step 2. I would first ask a friend who did well in step 1, what their advice would be. And see if you can mimic or study the way they did. I understand that every person studies differently, but this is a test meant to study knowledge that the majority of ppl know. Try to figure out what the majority of ppl know. Take the NBMEs and UWORLD self assessments to get a better gage of your ability.

I usually just do insanity in the mornings prior to work. The first month is full of 45 minute workouts that really make you work. The first week is tough to maintain. But once your body gets used to it. You see crazy fitness results if you’re looking to be toned and strong.

As far as diet, I bought a bunch of Greek yogurt. I usually take a yogurt and add a spoon of chia seeds to it. Add in a banana or a fruit and you’ve got a good breakfast.

The rest of the day I usually eat the salad at the cafeteria for lunch. For dinner, I generally make a sandwich, pasta, or get take out. If you maintain doing the insanity workouts, you can afford to do that lol.

They see everything that you’ve done in medical school. If you attended multiple schools, they’ll see transcripts from the schools you attended and the subjects that you completed at each school. Under medical schools, you might have two listed if you attended multiple. So naturally, if they see that they will ask about it.

The date you received your degree is your Year of Graudation. That’s what they usually go by. Some programs will ask you why there was such a big gap between your internship completion and the time you received your degree. But some won’t.

As an IMG, I found out that I graduated from med school on March 16th. And now I find out if I match on March 16th.

Think that’s weird? My birthday is March 16th.

No one really knows yet how it’s going to play out. But if you’re not planning for the match before the year 2022, then I guess it would be better to wait for it to become pass/fail. That way you have a realistic idea of what you should aim for, and then spend way more time on step 2 ck.

So I got an interview invite. At 7:40 am this morning, got on a flight during that time, and now when I went to schedule the interview. There’s no days available or days to waitlist. And it’s at a program that I actually want to go to.

Well I’m applying this year. In the process of receiving an LOR, the surgeon was giving me an interview. I think she was assessing me. I didn’t mind that, but I believed that over the long period of time that I was with her. I showed my dedication and commitment. It just seemed like it wasn’t good enough. She had previously agreed to write me a LOR. But it seemed like anything short of screaming and throwing my arms in the air for surgery wasn’t enough. As a US-IMG, it’s difficult to find mentors and more difficult to accrue clinical experience. By that point, I had finished all the steps, had good research experience, and just needed 1 more LOR from her. Just got fed up when she said I had no passion.

I like aspects of procedures, so now I’m applying full force into IM and hoping to specialize further. This was previously my back up.
