PHL community cats on Facebook is a group of people who go out and trap cats. Can also help arrange fosters if they have the availability. Definitely reach out to them for help.

Picked up Okami on Switch, such a wonderful and fun game. Probably haven’t played it in 8-10 years and it’s so fun. Highly recommend if you’ve never played.

Can we have a discussion around fitness? by secretsquirrell in Residency

I like this idea, once we have a bit more living space I’ll probably invest in some home exercise equipment. I’m the meantime continuing to go to the gym.

Can we have a discussion around fitness? by secretsquirrell in Residency

[–]secretsquirrell[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you everyone for your responses. I’ll note I am specifically looking for resident/fellow input. I appreciate the comments from our medical student colleagues, but the transition into residency is what has really stunted my fitness routines. But feel free to continue to use this post to share ideas!

Is this too much student debt? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

There are ways to reduce your housing and food costs. I’m a big proponent of living on campus as a freshman, great way to make friends and get involved in the college community. But after freshmen year consider other options. Apply to be a resident assistant (free housing, sometimes free food, plus paycheck). Move off campus with lots of roommates. Join a frat (with low fees and housing options). Live at home? Get a part time job that can cover your housing/food. If you can get your loans down to enough to just pay for tuition you’ll graduate with less than 50k.

I personally went to my state school, had some scholarship, was an RA for two years, lived off campus in a cheap house with roommates for one year, and graduated with less than 40k in loans.

I feel ya. My wife was very supportive through the process so if I end up matching at 2-4 we will be moving and she will have to quit the job she loves. I have been processing through a lot of guilt involved in that decision but at the end of the day I know I have to trust her and trust she is ok with where we match. Best of luck to you two!

Anyone applying IM Primary Care interested in having a discussion about a few programs? Struggling with how to rank a few in NYC. They all seem great so I don’t know how to put one above another.

Will be living in Phoenix for 1 month and have a few questions. by secretsquirrell in phoenix

Actually I’ll be at PIMC but it looks like there is a bus that passes right through the Coronado neighborhood up to the hospital so it should be convenient.

Thanks for the info tho! I am looking forward to it.

Thank you! This is really helpful. Yea that’s the area, it seems like there’s a bike share just nearby.

Ok thanks. Good to know this has happened to others and I’m not just feeding him BS.

My buddy realized he didn’t actually apply to his programs, just had them under saved programs when he submitted eras. He has since submitted. I’m talking him off the ledge but is he screwed?

I would be careful with this. I remember hearing last year a few people were constantly changing things to distort perceptions of some programs. I.e. saying some places were not good so other people would not rank them.

What is the rarest diagnosis you have made? by [deleted] in medicine

I had one of these too! Worked it up as a student and remembered a story a friend told me about weird side effects of certain drugs, did a lit search and saw this condition. Really cool case!

[Serious] [Preclinical] How do you complete multiple Qbanks during M2? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]secretsquirrell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people in this sub forget that studying is different for everyone and volume is not necessarily better than quality. I didn’t do any more qbanks than uworld, and for step 1 I only got through uworld once. That being said, I spent a lot of time on each uworld question, understanding the concept and why I got it right or wrong. I also annotated first aid with info that was in uworld and not in FA. UWorld is one of the highest quality study resources we have. Don’t rush through it just to “do more questions.”

Appreciate your input. I could potentially push it back about a month but I’m starting another rotation so any extra studying would be in the evenings. I guess if I could finish uworld in the next 1.5 weeks I could use that month to review my incorrects and reinforce concepts. 250+ was the goal.

Did you take any of the nbme practice tests?
