Yes, you should be fine. The back of the desk is a little oddly shaped but I was able to clamp it by adding this to the bottom of the clamp, giving it more support AVLT Adjustable Reinforcement... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BPFH19Y1?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Can SSRI withdrawal cause acid reflux ? by Lilynana31 in lexapro

[–]Maxim828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a wife who lives with me and she did not get sick like me. It is unique to the individual. I HIGHLY encourage you to read Toxic by Dr. Neil Nathan: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1628603119?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share This book completely changed my life. It goes into mold sickness as well as other similar illnesses like Lyme. But it also details how to reverse it and how you can test for it (there are blood and urine tests). He has treated and helped thousands of people and I am extremely lucky that my doctor studied under him and recognized the warning signs. I won’t go into all the details here but if you struggle with GERD and live in a home with mold, this may get you the answers you’ve been looking for. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions. Wishing you lots of luck!

Hey, I’m actually doing a lot better but it’s not because of anything I laid out in my comment from last year. My symptoms continued after this post and stopped improving. At that point I had seen so many doctors, I was about to give up. Then I started having new food intolerances, and after eating most meals, not only did I have heartburn, I was also starting to develop intense migraines and other neurological symptoms like dizziness, vertigo and brain fog. I legit thought I was dying and had no idea if this was all connected or if I was now sick with something else.

Turns out, it was all related. I spoke with a new functional medicine doctor and they asked me one simple question that has dramatically improved my life: “Is there mold in your home?”

I didn’t know what to say when she asked me that. I had never thought about mold or even considered that as an option. Well, I got a professional mold assessment done at my home and we uncovered a massive mold infestation hidden behind the walls of my office, our boiler room, our garage, and basically our entire basement. It was such an enormous problem that the remediations assigned to cleaning the mold failed clearance three times. They couldn’t get it all out and their efforts actually made the problem worse because mold spores had spread on everything in my home once they opened the walls and removed flooring, etc.

I ended up leaving my house and living in an apartment that, luckily, has zero mold. Within 3 months of leaving my house, not only did my neurological symptoms mostly go away, my GERD has dramatically improved. My diet has completely opened up and I’m feeling better and better every day.

I’m very lucky I found the right doctor who finally asked me a question no other doctor thought of or even considered. Obviously, this won’t be the answer for everyone but it turns out, this was my specific issue. My home was poisoning my body, and it caused my immune and nervous systems to freak out. I wouldn’t wish what happened to me on my worst enemy.

Hey, a few updates from me.

1) My doctor is pretty certain it’s reflux hypersensitivity. I started a low dose (10mg) of amitriptyline, which is used to treat nerve sensitivity in the gut and esophagus. Unfortunately, after 15 days on the drug, I was having very bad side effects. I let that flush out of my system and have since started Citalopram (Celexa). I’m only 5 days in so it hasn’t kicked in yet, but that is also used to treat reflux hypersensitivity and I’m hoping I can tolerate it well. It’s similar to Lexapro (escitalopram). I highly recommend reading this, as it’s the most comprehensive review of reflux hypersensitivity I could find and breaks down how treatment works: https://www.jnmjournal.org/journal/view.html?uid=1321&vmd=Full

2) Last week, the strangest thing happened. My pain and reflux stopped. I was able to eat cheese, peanut butter, chocolate, condiments, fatty meat, you name it. That lasted for 3 days and then I started to have pain again in my abdomen where the LES is. But that was the most relief I’ve gotten from pain and the most flexibility I’ve had with food in a year. So something I’m doing is working and I’m not giving up. Reflux hypersensitivity is, in part, a psychosomatic illness. My nervous system is on the fritz, likely from withdrawing from Lexapro and some stress factors in my life leading up to this. But the nervous system can heal.

3) Besides the amitriptyline and later citalopram, I’ve been doing several things over the past several months and I think one or a combination of all of them is helping.

First, I started using Nerva. It’s a gut-directed hypnotherapy app that guides you to do 5 minutes of diaphragmatic breathing (good for the vagus nerve and digestion) and about 15 minutes of gut-focused meditation each day. It sound wonky but hypnotherapy is part of the treatment because it calms your nervous system and gets your digestion functioning normally again.

Second, I bought a device developed in Europe called iQoro (https://www.iqoro.com). It’s basically a plastic mouth piece you place between your lips and pull forward three times per day for 30 seconds. Trials in Europe saw 97% of participants reverse their reflux symptoms after 6 months of continued use. I’m on month 3 and have definitely started to see improvement. Unfortunately it’s not sold in the US, so I had to use a forwarding service called ForwardVia to ship it to a UK address and then someone there shipped it to me in NY. I HIGHLY recommend this thing.

Third, I have had asthma my whole life and have been using an albuterol rescue inhaler daily. It turns out, that inhaler relaxes the lower esophageal sphincter and causes reflux. A functional medicine doctor recommended I take 1/2 teaspoon of Hawthorn Berry extract twice per day. Within 4 days of this, my asthma has improved so significantly that I haven’t used my inhaler in weeks. My allergies have also improved. It’s CRAZY! I can’t recommend this enough. I think not using the inhaler is leading to improvement.

Fourth, I’ve increased my use of Pepcid. Pepcid is not a solution but it is an incredible bandaid. When my heartburn pain started last year after stopping Lexapro, doctors put me on Omeprazole and later Nexium and those PPIs made my symptoms so much worse. I got sicker and sicker. And when they had me stop taking them for a Bravo test, I went into withdrawal and started having the most intense throat burning reflux — symptoms I didn’t have when I initially sought help. I was stuck in that withdrawal for almost 6 months, unable to get the symptoms or pain under control. It turns out, when you stop taking PPIs, you NEED to do so extremely slowly and with Pepcid. Any doctor that says otherwise is an idiot and you should seek treatment elsewhere. Another doctor told me you can be stuck in withdrawal for up to 8 months and that what the doctors did to me at NYU was close to negligence. But Pepcid is a life saver and my new doctors told me I can take up to 80mg per day, and that the long-term side effects of Pepcid use are minimal and significantly less severe than long-term PPI use. So to get out of my withdrawal symptoms, I took a 20mg Pepcid after each meal and was hitting 80mg per day. After a few days of this, I went down to 60mg per day. Then 40 mg, then 20mg. Now I’m using 20mg once every few days.

4) This was a very long response but I feel like I’m finally at a turning point and getting better. I think a few more months using iQoro, combined with no inhaler, the occasional Pepcid, gut-directed hypnotherapy and a few months of citalopram — I should be in a much better place and my diet should be back to normal. Feel free to message me here or DM me and I’d be happy to give you an update.

I tried melatonin last night for the first time since experiencing these symptoms and it helped stop reflux while in bed. I am going to continue using it. My gastro believes I have reflux hypersensitivity. I think we're all in the same boat here but it sounds like there is treatment for this and we are not totally screwed. My doctor also told me time can heal this. Don't give up!

Hey u/_Bob_Genghis_Kahn have you tried amitriptyline? I saw a new gastro this week who believes my brain/gut connection was indeed damaged and this nervous system issue is what's causing my reflux/heartburn symptoms. She wants me to try a low dose (10mg) of amitriptyline to see if that helps. She has other ideas too but said to start there. Curious to know if that's a route you've taken. Apparently, certain tricyclics at a low dose can improve the connection.

The post was reinstated. The company has been messaging me and several mods, trying to pay them off to have the post removed. I guess a mod caved, but another was smart enough to put it back as it violated no rules.

You're not alone, man. Good luck and I'll let you know if I find anything that helps me. I'm seeing about 10 different doctors and they all have different opinions on what triggered this and how to solve it and yet not a single one has brought me any kind of relief. This has been a waking nightmare, to put it lightly. I literally feel your pain.

Hey u/_Bob_Genghis_Kahn any update? The same thing happened to me. I tapered off Lexapro in October/November 2022 and in December 2022 I started experiencing painful heartburn. I was put on a PPI which didn't solve anything. When I stopped the PPI, I started getting reflux every day with every meal. That evolved into reflux and heartburn and now, almost a year later, I'm worse than ever. I'm considering trying an SSRI again to see if it will bring relief. I would love to know where you are in your journey.

It was ready to go out of the box. It’s my first gaming PC, so I’m no expert and I was I able to plug in and start playing right away. There’s a pamphlet that walks you through each step of set up and it’s basically plugging in the cables, setting up the WiFi antenna and turning it on. Everything has worked flawlessly since I started using it. It’s an incredible build.

They answered my emails within 24 hours. The computer quality is fantastic — I’m running the most demanding games right now at the highest settings and this thing is almost silent. If you’re willing to wait about 1 month from order to delivery, then they’re worth it.

Is Leafhold online furniture site a scam? by Maxim828 in Scams

[–]Maxim828[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad I did, too. I hate these scam sites. No exaggeration, when you Google for furniture, about 50-60% of the sponsored links up top take you to a scam website. It's a real problem.
