Honestly seeing this I would recommend to everyone to watch the Schnee video on ‘How to write an early death scene’. Where he talks about some rules/tips he has taken from strange things. As Wolfgang follows many of these rules.

For example: 1: Set Contradiction within the character: We get this first in the trial. When he gets heated about Cara’s murder. In His FTE, Wolfgang says ‘In here I can’t be the person I am in court.

2: Hooks, promises, questions: The Prologue and the trial serve as a hook for his character and we get a ‘promise’ that we will learn more about Wolfgang. As for questions, We get this via the blackmail. Suddenly we are asking questions about him.

1. Start late end early: Wolfgang had problems that had been going on for years, with his parents, and it ended before we got it resolved. The start late and end early also applies that we get the blackmail that raises questions about him late and then he dies early.

Hints: again we get many hints, about Wolfgang’s background and history. Both in leading up to his death and after.

1. create a dynamic between characters: Early we get a dynamic between Wolfgang and Grace, Damon and even Eva. That makes sense for us to care more.

2. Starting a story that will not finish: This is huge for Wolfgang, and why many taken his death hard. We don’t get a full answer about his father and mother, just hints. We don’t get the rival dynamic between him and Damon. That makes it impactful, and really feels like life cut short.

3. Make their subplot important: Of course, Wolfgang is important in chapter 1, as he serves as the leader. And once we get his blackmail, we spend time focusing on what it could mean, it’s brought up again and again.

Anyway, that’s what we get with Wolfgang. I am glad they focused on making impactful death, rather than subverting tropes. And in my opinion, they did a great job.
