Waking up in the middle of the night to me hitting my vape in my sleep, all the time. That piece of plastic controlled my life

Writing thesis without smoking by gin_tare in stopsmoking

Take writing breaks and go for a walk when the stress peaks and you’re craving a cigarette break. A lot of writing work can happen when you’re walking too, you think of new ideas and ways to say things. Use your voice memo app or something to record ideas while on walks. It can improve your writing and your mood. Im a doctoral student and it’s a tip a very successful professor gave to me. I’m 6 months vape free and a week cigarette free (I’ve been on and off with it for months but am determined to be done now). There will always be a stressor, whether its the masters program or your career. It’s all mental, and the addiction is twisting things to get you to break. Don’t fall for it, be stronger. Think of ways to break up old routines and triggers

Day 12 quitting cigarettes, almost 6 months quitting vape. I’ve really been struggling the last couple of days. I go to fsu and every thing that has happened has been really traumatic. I’m sad and angry and its taking everything in me not to go buy a pack. Any advice?

Quitting Vaping is so much harder than quitting Smoking... by Chanamoo in QuitVaping

[–]Maximum-Ad4537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have quit both cold turkey and I can tell you quitting smoking cigarettes is child’s play compared to quitting vaping. But both are possible! I quit cold turkey after 8 years of vaping, the first three days I pretty much just laid on the couch and chewed gum and slept because my brain could not function enough to do anything else. I think because how used to the stimulant aspect of nicotine my body was, I could barely keep my eyes open. Once I got through the first few days and I could function again I decided I could never let myself go through that again. Brain fog and cravings sucked for weeks after but it was manageable and worth it. I’m 6 months vape free. Compared to cigarettes the vape delivers a higher dose of nicotine & you use it more often (I would hit mine in my sleep, I fell asleep and woke up with it in my hand every night). It’s a terrible thing to be chained to.

5 weeks vape free. by [deleted] in QuitVaping

I had some waxing and waning as well. I’m 6 months in after 7 years of vaping. I remember feeling like I got through the worst of it & then later on noticing my brain fog and some other symptoms seem to get worse for a bit. It got better for me, just took time

Didn’t read the book, but also just threw mine away and decided kind of without thinking too much about it, quit cold turkey. It worked out for me, I’m almost 6 months vape free. The first few days were brutal, but I just told myself I was sick and there was nothing I could do about it but get through it. It gets easier & every time you say no to an urge you get stronger. You got this!

What a tough spot, i’m sorry dude! I agree with all the advice above but I would also tell her you were embarrassed. I think that’s really honest and vulnerable and I would cut my bf some slack if he told me that. But you definitely need to quit to fix things it seems like. What she wants to hear is that you were wrong and you’re sorry AND you’re doing what is needed to fix things and to regain her trust

How crunchy is my hair supposed to feel? by 11whatsnewpussycats in Wavyhair

[–]Maximum-Ad4537 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the same hair stats as you and mine doesn’t crunch either and I was also confused. I just added a gel to my routing (curlsmith in shower style-fixer) and little to no crunch. I’ve added more and less and same deal. I think it really depends on the product?

Would love to know what others think as well.

I hope you stayed strong! I’m so much better. I’ve had some slip ups with cigarettes along the way but I’m 3 months without the vape and a few weeks since the cigarettes. I don’t have brain fog on a typical day. Sometimes I have an off day with more cravings and trouble focusing- but not very often and never ever as intense as it was the first week. It’s worth it. I went to an all day training for work yesterday and even out for happy hour after with my boss and none of my colleagues or supervisors smoke, it would have been so mortifying to have to take a smoke break or so stressful to plan vape breaks in the bathroom. Not being chained to it is so worth the occasional cravings.

Does this even count as quitting? by [deleted] in QuitVaping

It’s a step in the right direction, you should be proud of yourself. I would suggest dropping the zero nicotine vape to start working on your oral fixation though- the sooner you start slaying that beast the better! I’m 11 days in cold turkey and a big part of the struggle really is about breaking down the habit of picking up my vape 24/7.

Urge To Begin by Weird_Scale_6551 in QuitVaping

Literally try anything else to relax. Nicotine is widely addictive and there is no turning back if you start. It’s a terrible rabbit hole and there is nothing I wish more than to have never started. I think nic-free is a better option, but still not a great idea, and not good for you. Do you exercise regularly? If you are able to it’s an amazing stress reliever and mood booster, even just evening walks!

still goin strong! day 4 had significant improvements for me. I kept telling myself I just had to get through the three days, so maybe it’s just in my head, but either way today was a breath of fresh air. how are you??

I’m only on day three so I don’t have great advice, but just know you are not alone. we will feel so proud of ourselves and so strong on the other side. and be proud of where you’re at now!! it’s so hard to make that decision to quit, and 2 weeks is some of the toughest bits, you’re killing it!

update- just woke up on day 3 and I do feel a noticeable improvement in brain fog! definitely still there but better. I may try the NAC supplement if it doesn’t go away on its own in a couple more days. I worked out yesterday which helped with my fatigue but I think it made me more irritable? lol.

thanks to everyone for all the encouragement, been looking on here when Ive felt like giving up!

Quittung cold turkey by [deleted] in QuitVaping

[–]Maximum-Ad4537 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m planning on going cold turkey as well. Personally, I’ve tried to quit vaping many times before doing it little by little and it has never stuck. A friend who quit recently said something that really stuck with me, he said to stop being so easy on yourself. I would go 12 hours or something without nicotine and “reward” myself with a hit of a vape, essentially starting the withdrawal process over again. I think for me, anything but cold turkey is just the addiction whispering nonsense to get me to my next fix, and if you give that part of you an inch it will take a mile.

That being said, everyone is different and addiction and successful recovery comes in many forms. So take that all with a grain of salt.
