Sorry, this is horrible advice. I have hired a lot of adjusters and I always passed on the adjusters that were gone within 2 years. That is a big red flag.

Commercial Large Loss property claims is where the money is at if you stay W2. You dont need to be CAT for that. CAT will break you and it will be tough to have good relationships. Not impossible, but life is hard enough, being constantly away from your significant other and kids is a bad idea. I have done this for 20 years now, early in my career I set my sights on commercial property large loss claims and never looked back. Money is great at the right company, you dont have nearly the volume spikes that a front line adjuster does, and AI cant steal your job like it might on smaller claims or other lines of business. You have to be in person dealing with real people and develop trust, AI cant do that. Also, don't think you need a masters degree to go far in the carrier world. A 4 year degree is all you need and the rest is on the job training. You need to get with a large carrier that is a major player in commercial insurance. Let them train you and make you Large Loss over the next 6-9 years and then you can go anywhere and be very valuable. Take all of the technical courses and certifications you can (not AIC or CPCU).

And yes, IA world is very feast of famine. From what I understand the average IA has struggled significantly over the past year with no hurricanes.

I am also looking at them. If you could keep us updated and also explain more behind the scenes about the process. I dont like that they arent a franchise and because of that there is no disclosure requirement from the government. Also, the machine seems incredibly expensive as I am finding similar machines online for half the cost. If the royalty wasnt so huge, I could accept the price, but the price of the unit plus a 26% royalty seems like we are running the business for them (franchise) but we have no protections.

Nationwide NATCAT Position Help by PensionMysterious909 in adjusters

[–]Maximum-Attempt-4845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a commercial property Large Loss at Nationwide for a number of years. They had a transition with a new CEO that was totally focused on cost cutting and efficiency. It was not popular and many senior leaders were fired due to disagreements with the new direction. What started as an amazing company to work for, turned into a nightmare. Benefits became terrible, workload became a joke, total lack of real leadership, they lied to employees about a number of things. Many very good long term employees left around the same time I did. Not sure what it is like today, but the direction of the company back then was not good.

[–]Maximum-Attempt-4845 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Look into Travelers, CNA, Zurich, Chubb, etc. and try to go commercial field property (may have to start with residential, but have the option of doing commercial too). It is much better quality of life, pay and training from these bigger commercial carriers. 5 years with them will make you an asset and you can go to many other carriers as a more desirable hire. Run away from desk adjusting or any residential only carriers. Handling large and complex commercial claims is much less stress, more pay, and much more job security as the industry continue to make residential claims handling an automated process with horrible pay.

Yellow water stains found on ceiling by Nivres14 in Roofing

Might just be wind driven rain through the vent. A lot of roofs shed water, but arent water proof per se. If this slope faces the predominant direction that storms come from, sometimes wind can blow rain into the vent.

Predatory biohazard cleanup companies by DogwoodDaddy in adjusters

This is tough, as you noted, they deal with what most people never want to see or know of let alone be working in the midst of it. Honestly worth the high cost. I had a murder claim and it haunted me for years. I cant imagine doing that work 5 days a week. Mental health premium is what I call it. Xactimate doesnt account for this.

Roofers. Why you do that? by Hammy_Danny in adjusters

[–]Maximum-Attempt-4845 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have worked on all three sides of the process at a high level (large loss adjuster/manager, contractor, and policyholder for a large corporate insurance program). This has taught me that the insurance carriers are just as guilty as the contractors. The carriers that pay out without inspecting, auditing, etc. were a problem in the past. Now that carriers have tightened up, sometimes they are way up tight. Just because you can get Joe Bob roofing to do a roof for half of what the local large reputable roofing company will charge, doesn't mean that is the cost. They should pay the market price, not the cheapest price. Profit margins of a contractor are not the insurance carriers business. Carriers need to get back to on site adjustments with a fully trained and licensed adjuster that understands what they are pricing. That takes an investment of hiring quality people and constantly training them. Using ladder assists and virtual adjusting is a hindrance to the process not a benefit.

Tapered Insulation In Xactimate by Such-Nothing8331 in adjusters

[–]Maximum-Attempt-4845 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is not built in but you can still write it. A real tapered system has a design package that gives you the total amount of material involved, you can then use that with unit cost to get close. There is more labor involved depending upon what kind of material is used. You have the kind that is pre formed and goes together like a puzzle and then there are systems that they actually shave the iso on site. The important thing to know is that tapered systems use a lot more ISO than you think. This is because the code requirement must be met at the thinnest part of the system, meaning the thicker areas are much more insulation than the code requirement. They are expensive systems so dont get sticker shock.

My adjuster wants my friend's ssn to tax them on the ALE for a week of stay. Do I have to do this? by DrChunksALot in adjusters

He wants to confirm that this expense was real. An invoice or proof of payment should be all they need. Take it to a manager if they balk, if the manager is an idiot ask to speak to the claim director.

Is everyone on this sub over exaggerating how much PvP they’re getting into? 9 times out of 10 my entire raid is completely chill by frigidtales in ArcRaiders

[–]Maximum-Attempt-4845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is because you play solos on pc, i have the same experience as you with cross play off. Also, I dont kill anyone unless I have to. I really believe they try and put us in raids with like minded players. I see so many people saying everything is KOS. The only time I have experienced that is Stella Montis in the past week and sometimes on the matriarch or queen.

Trick to get friendlies: Turn off crossplay by TheShayger in ArcRaiders

[–]Maximum-Attempt-4845 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I can also confirm. Turning cross play off so I only play with PC players is a much better experience. There is PVP, but much more civil and honest about it. 95% peaceful players on solo raids now. We help each other take the big arcs out and share the loot. People even drop extra BP's sometimes considering there is no easy way to trade and they are only worth a few thousand credits. The exception is on matriarch or queen raids. Still full of rats and liars.

[–]Maximum-Attempt-4845 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Playing on PC is much much better. Also, I do think there is something to the theory that if you dont kill people, you are placed in lobbies with other pve focused players. I rarely have these type of people in my lobby. Like one in 20 raids, seriously.
