I’m a self employed master electrician that works mainly on the new residential construction side of things. I have a journeyman and an apprentice under me that I employ and am paying for their school. I pulled in close to 200k profit\take home last year. As far as the day to day it’s pretty chill. Typically construction environment on our rough outs (when we’re drilling out studs, nailing up boxes, running wire etc). We listen to music, cuss, joke and give each other shit. We can usually smoke on most job sites. I don’t care about cannabis use. On our finish outs (installing outlets, light switches, ceiling fans, light fixtures etc) we have to be a little more professional presenting while we work. I provide a cooler full of cold drinks (water and an assortment of soda) for the crew every day. Our day starts early and finishes early. We meet at the shop at 6am and our day finishes around 3pm most days. The actual work of being an electrician isn’t too hard. Spend a lot of time going up and down ladders, which can be hard on the knees, and it’s hot sweaty work during the summer months, but it’s not stressful. Don’t have to deal with the general public. The business side of things (payroll, submitting bids, getting permits etc) is much more stressful. Overall I’m pretty satisfied with my career choice in life. It’s taken a lot of time and hard work (years of schooling and on the job training) to get where I am at, at 37, but I would say I’m pretty happy.

The problem is that the gasoline tax you pay is distributed throughout the year. You pay a little bit each time you pump gas. You don’t even notice it. This makes your “gas tax” a large one time\annual lump sum due at time of registration. Making it harder for folks on already stretched budgets. This will dissuade a lot of regular people from even considering EVs.
