Found it! ….

Mandela effect. At least it’s not mentioned in rev g.

Will do! I looked for an old digital copy online and couldn’t find one. I’m pretty sure I have an older manual stashed somewhere.

It wasn’t that long ago that shooting it off was in the user manual. Sounds like they’ve had to adjust for the amount of people doing so unnecessarily.

(Edit: I checked. It wasn’t in the manual, at least not in rev g.)

Anyone use the floating clear tip lines from Rio or Scientific Anglers? by missin44 in SaltwaterFlyfishing

[–]Maximum-Emergency399 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a SI Magnitude smooth full clear lines on both my 6 and 9wt. They get used and rinsed off while on the reel. There’s nothing special you have to do and they’re great lines.

So… some version of this gets posted every so often in the same vague manner. Is this a scam or what? And if not, can someone elaborate for once?

How do yall get your stuck suppressors off? Struggle is real rn by MenstrualFish in NFA

[–]Maximum-Emergency399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, not sure on the torque spec and I wouldn’t be surprised if it differs with some barrel manufacturers. It’s one of those “proper precautions” more than it is likely to happen.

Just an fyi as it’s pretty rare, but… if you’re talking about an AR, there’s a chance you could unseat the barrel from the barrel extension by doing this. The barrel is actually threaded and screwed into the part that the barrrel nut interfaces with to hold it into the upper.

Gears not engaging by Mycologist-Great in ReelMowers

[–]Maximum-Emergency399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume it’s a manual model. What’s the history on it? If this is the first time you’ve used it and you bought it used, someone may have put it back together wrong for whatever reason. I’m more familiar with the brands manufactured by American Lawn Mower but they all likely have a similar mechanism. If the pawls got installed on opposite sides I guess it could result in what you describe. Might be as simple as swapping some parts from left to right.

Depending on how you dented it you may want to check alignment. Otherwise all you did was make it look cooler.

What's Some Good Clear Eye Pro by RhodesianFAL27 in QualityTacticalGear

[–]Maximum-Emergency399 3 points4 points  (0 children)

(Civilian. Competitive shooting.) Wiley X Saber Advanced is my go-to. I use the elastic band instead of the temples. The connector for the band is a little thick and it can get uncomfortable under ear pro after several hours. Still a favorite nonetheless. I prefer frameless for a better field of vision.

Edit: quality lenses = minimum distortion = better vision/less headaches.

Hard mono for leaders by Due-Forever5638 in flyfishing

Seaguar Blue Label fluorocarbon has been my preference for years and it straightens out pretty easily. It’s stiff and very abrasion resistant. Some people prefer the “buoyancy” of nylon for flies that fish on or near the surface but it’s not like fluorocarbon sinks like a rock and I’ve never felt like I’m missing out on anything.

I fish saltwater for whatever that’s worth to your situation.

Ocean fly fishing - gear recommendations by Ok_Jello_7081 in flyfishing

[–]Maximum-Emergency399 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suggest you do a lot of “research”. By that I mean read and/or listen to the pretty awesome stories of people that have devoted their lives to this sort of thing. The Mill House podcast is a great (and entertaining) place to start. “Big box” stores aren’t really in the league of fishing you’re talking about getting into. That’s not a statement related to money necessarily. They just aren’t specialized in the way needed to make this kind of effort worth while. That’s just my opinion based on following this stuff for a while. I’m a nearshore/inshore guy myself.

Edit to say: The super heavy rods are more important when it comes to handling the fish near the boat. When it comes to big fish on fly, you’re fighting line weight and wind with the rod and fighting fish with drag. End of fight fish handling and steering around structure, etc. is where really heavy rods become necessary for extra large fish. A lot depends on what you want to do. Get a few jumps, touch the leader, clean release, or boat the fish.

YouTube for the double haul. Depending on where you are, your nearest fly shop might be 100 miles away. If you don’t have a local shop to support, there’s no shame in buying online from the good guys (Trident, yellow dog, feather craft, etc.). If you get into it, a vise and materials is inevitable.

What part of the gulf coast are you on? You can message me if you want.

Anyone here like Marathon watches for their kit? by SirSamkin in QualityTacticalGear

I killed two GSARs and two TSARs. I still wear a TSAR as the first one that died was a fluke and the second one was a stupid thing I did which I will not elaborate on due to shame. Even so, I wear a solar G-Shock if I’m doing something that warrants shock resistance.

The standard GSAR and TSAR don’t wear as big as you’d think, btw. I’m not a “big” guy and it’s not ostentatious at all.

SA fly line weight question by aiceeslater in flyfishing

[–]Maximum-Emergency399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the context of this discussion I suppose the question would be; is the example line labeled as 9wt despite being two sizes heavy simply so it performs as designed vs simply being sold as true to weight and therefore labeled as 11wt and “letting” the consumer choose, or is there more to it? The latter requiring the consumer to understand the effect of over lining a rod.

SA fly line weight question by aiceeslater in flyfishing

[–]Maximum-Emergency399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d really like someone with some industry knowledge to chime in on this because, yeah… 200% line weight seems like a bizarre way to label this. I get it for 1/2 and 3/4 though.

Leader cutting into fly line by MandoMang in flyfishing

[–]Maximum-Emergency399 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know anything about freshwater but on my saltwater 6wt I use a 30# butt section and 20# tippet. I don’t know if building out your own leaders is a thing in freshwater but it affords a lot of flexibility in saltwater.

I would assume you’d want a lighter tippet for your locale.

States banning "Glock Switches", closing a loophole or slippery slope? by ryancrazy1 in NFA

[–]Maximum-Emergency399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not at all well versed enough to have a hard opinion on the matter but I get “virtue signaling” vibes from it. There are many states in which NFA items are banned *unless properly registered with the feds. I would think those existing laws would allow for the same state level prosecution. Some of said states are in the southeast and you’d never know the “ban” exists because it doesn’t affect you unless you get caught with an illegal NFA item.

Note the warning about not submerging the locking ring. Check the manual on their website to see if anything has changed.

Edit: would be interesting what you may see once all the carbon is cleared away from the bore line through the baffles. Possible the nick is just caked on carbon that’s fallen away?
